Rubanast: Rubanast, in the many years that it has stood, has been called many names: The Dark Tower, Arcanists Watch, The Aetherium, and many more; however Rubanast has always been its proper name. The origins of the tower are mostly lost to time, though some say that the Ki'oal of Annifos could hold knowledge of some of those secrets. The impressive tower is located deep within the Deadwood, near the base of the Cinderspire Seal where The Wailing Peaks meet The Cindercoil. In its time it has served as a school to those talented enough with the arcane to be invited in, and as a personal sanctum for whatever master claimed it as their own at the time. Most recently it was the private sanctuary of the powerful wizard Eregar Wurian, who is said to have been studying the truth of the ley lines pulse deep beneath Kiur's surface. It was during these studies, nearly eighty years ago, that the Asheglade was ultimately turned into the fractured arcane badlands now known as Deadwood. Since this time the land has proven to be too perilous for many to traverse, and the tower itself is said to be encased by a powerful arcane barrier that prevents entry - but these tales can not be verified.

As for mage schools, the truthful answer is there really isn't one. Once upon a time that would have been Rubanast, but not in at least century. Academies, where magic are performed, are a good signal that there is power to be had, and in a land as turbulent and chaotic as Kiur, such places of gathering power make excellent targets for attack. Over the history of Kiur hundreds of schools for mages have cropped up and then been destroyed when power changed hands. The vast majority of study, then, is done in private. Individual mentors taking on two or three apprentices and passing the craft down that way. The largest gathering of these kinds of mentors would be the town of Tennamor. If you were looking for an instructor, that would be the best place to look. With that said, the city of Ketamon has the current longest standing mage college available, but it's far from 'prestigious'.

Still trying to figure things out, but the top concept currently in my head might be for a young half-elven noblewoman from Lothandi... I'm imagining she grew up in a world of luxury and wonder, but felt compelled to leave (at least in part) because she never really fit in. Would there be any problems with that? There isn't much information on Lothandi, and I'm assuming most people in-setting don't know any more.

I can certainly work with you to make this concept work, yea. You're correct in assuming that very little is known about Lothandi outside of the city itself. Once I've seen your full concept and we've talked there will be info that's shared with you about it. ^^

Alrighty. It's 6am. I got messages back to everyone who submitted stuff to me last night, though there's two more sitting in my box right now - I'll have to pick those up in the morning. The concept roster is up to date with what I have confirmed so far.

There are a couple lurkers hanging around who haven't said anything, but you guys should totally stop in and toss your concepts into the mix. A couple people from the interest thread that we haven't seen yet. If you're still interested we'd love to hear from you:

That said right now, at least as far as concept submissions go, we're very close to even on both the white and black hat side of the fence. So anyone who is interested should pretty much at this point feel free to submit towards whichever side catches their muse the most.

Tomorrow my goal is to get descriptions up for the locations for everyone, so you have some basic knowledge for the world. In the mean time while we're dealing with concept submission, character inquiries and what not... Feel free to ask anything you're curious about that pertains to the setting. Your questions can only help me, and the worst I'll ever tell you is that it's not common enough knowledge for you to be aware of it.
