Once upon a time, Lucifer was God's most beloved and beautiful creation.  Among the angels, he was unparalleled and his love for God was boundless.  Then, God made human beings and fucked it all up.

The story that you'v been told, is that Lucifer was jealous of God's new creatons and too full of pride to serve them, as God expected.  Believing humans to be inferior to angels, and unworthy of God's unconditional love and the paradise he had created for them, Lucifer defied his creator and was cast out of heaven for the war he started among the heavenly host.  Anyone who sided with him was cast down with him, to become the demons that would inhabit his fiery prison.

The truth is, as usual, much more complicated and far less black and white than God would have you believe.  Yes, Lucifer defied God, but he was only playing a role that was designed for him by the very creator who would punish him for fulfilling that role.  He was set up to be the warden of Hell, for God knew that man would sin and there would have to be a place to put his naughty children.  He chose Lucifer for the very same reasons that he had once loved him, those qualities which made him the perfect angel.  Thus, the Lightbringer became the Devil and the rest, as they say, is history.

That is...until about four years ago.  See, Lucifer grew tired of following orders and staying in his prison.  After centuries of torturing all the bad little kiddies, he found himself growing weary and restless.  So, he decided to take a vacation on Earth and leave Hell to its own devices.  He crawled up through the sand in the desert just outside of Las Vegas and decided to make himself at home.  He bought an old casino on the strip and turned it into Rack & Ruin, a multi-level, multi-function resort for the discerning, wealthy customer and he began making friends and influencing people.  Now, four years later, the angels are annoyed with him, because without him to police Hell, the duty has fallen to them, and God's not happy about the situation.  It doesn't help matters that as soon as he landed on earth, he had his right hand demon cut off his wings and he shows no sign of ever planning to return to Hell.

Why ever would he, when Earth is so much fun?

Game Notes

This game will be placed in the Extreme Small Groups Forum, since there is a possibility for extreme themes in both a sexual and violence sense.

Players are allowed as many characters as they feel they can handle, up to a maximum of 4.  However, you can't play more than one of each character type, aside from humans.  So, only one demon per player, and only one angel per player.  Beyond that, you can have as many humans as you like in the game, up to 4.

YES!!! I'm definitely interested. So, so so much.

How close to the show will this be? An even so, can other elements of the Sandman graphic novels show up?

Bibliophilia

It's really just inspired by the show.  All of the devil on vacation, with demons and angels and whatnot, and none of the police procedural.

I've listed the types of characters that are available for play, and would like to avoid other Sandman graphic novels, simply because I'm not familiar and I feel as if the game is best balanced with the three types.

That being said, I'll be adding in more info about the three types soon.  Like, I realize the show clings pretty strongly to a Judeo-Christian mindset of angels and demons, but I'll be allowing evil and good entities from other religions as those two character types.  For example...Coyote from Native American culture could be played as a demon.  And Amaterasu from Shinto could be an angel.

Landshark

Love the show. Just watched the new ep actually. I was curious if there would be a story arc in this it is it pure sandbox? As its not been discussed in the show yet, did other angels go to hell with Luci?

If I join this I'm thinking of a fallen angel, if allowed, or demon if not. Be the curator, ie.. takes care of the fine wine and spirits, acquires Luci's rare art, cars and whatnot.

Bibliophilia

I will definitely be coming up with stories for you guys, and encouraging players to come up with their own stories, as well.  I'm willing to help anyone in the game who wants to run something for people.

As far as angels that were cast out with Lucifer, yes.  However, unlike Luci, they were just the first demons.  They wouldn't retain their wings, the way Lucifer did, but they would have access to Demonic powers.  I'll be adding more about the powers tomorrow, along with more info on making a character and whatnot.  I just wanted to get this thing up so potential players could let me know it's all worth it!

And, you know, because questions make for better GMing.

Hmm...I'm not sure if I can add another game, but, I might have to try for this one. I love the Lucifer show (even if the odds of ever getting a Constantine cameo are slim to none :P ), and can't wait for the new episode tomorrow night to see the fallout from what just happened last week!

Who to play, who to play...

-fucking dies.-  Yes!  -is so excited that people like the idea.-  I'll try to get more up tomorrow, after my labs.

Clio

Hmm... what about that psychologist that he sees? Could that be a woman? And if so, has anyone showed interest in the character?

Bibliophilia

No one has shown interest.  And it could totally be a woman!  If you'd like to claim her, then you're welcome to.

Clio

I think I might do that. I just noticed that he's going to see a psychologist, so I figured that would make sense.

A question that popped up into my mind was whether there's a sort of hierarchy for demons?  Such as, say, the embodiments, I guess you could call it, of the seven deadly sins, or is it more of a equal footing all around sort of thing beneath Lucifer?

I think it would be more fair for all concerned if every demon, aside from Lucifer, were all on the same footing.  However, they can be personalized.  So, tomorrow I'm going to put up a list of possible demonic powers and each demon will be allowed to pick a certain number from them.  Beyond those powers, they're allowed to be customized as the player likes, so if you wanted to play the embodiment of a deadly sin, you could.  It all depends on how you create your character.

As far as power level, though, all the demons will be on the same level.

Juggtacular

Would it be possible to play another of the Arch Angels? Like Amenidial or Uriel or Azrael?

Bibliophilia

Sure!  All angels are totally open.  They're more powerful than the demons, but the demons are more creative and vicious when it comes to combat.  So, when a demon and angel fight, they're pretty much on the same footing.

I love the idea of people playing Luci's brothers and sisters.  All angels and demons can be any gender, of course.

Juggtacular

Well then, I'm calling dibby dibs on Michael Demiurgos.

Sally Aces

Could a stage magician who made a pact, her soul in exchange for real magic, fit here?

Or would it be better to make her a demon with a flair for the dramatic?

Face Claim: Dolly Kent

Bibliophilia

Lucifer can't(or won't) really give people magic powers.  If you want her to have magic, it would be better to make her a demon of some sort.

Bibliophilia

Okay, guys.  I've updated the world-building thread with some more information and the character sheet template!  If you have any questions, just ask here.  I've never GMed a game before, so I'm sure there are things I've forgotten.
