Table Code Question
« on: October 13, 2013, 06:54:09 PM »
Working on a code table for something, I want to make a particular column a certain size/width is that possible? I have three columns, two of which are a list type thing, and then the third is more paragraph type writing and I can't figure out how to make the paragraph column not hog the majority of the screen space and smush the other two into the side.

Would it work if you inserted a graphic of some sort? Like a fancy doodle then make the img dimensions match the width you would like to achieve?

Hmm, maybe? But I doubt it as it's an issue with the coding shoving the light text columns to the side in favor of the more text rich one. I was more hoping for a solution that was code based but I'll see what I can do with an image.

Does [td width=X] work?

Nope. Sadly, though I thought it would.

I looked into this a bit, and it seems like you can only do it in html and css, not bbcode.

Oh, well thank you for researching it further. I had come up with an alternative I liked just as well.

I've tried to figure out a way to do that with the code myself before, sadly had no luck. If you have a graphics program like Photoshop or Gimp you can make a short, transparent gif of the same width you'd like your columns to be and stick that in on the bottoms of the columns, but that's a hassle.

It's not terribly precise, but Ell doesn't delete extra spaces so if you add a line of spaces at the bottom of your thinner columns you can use it to sort of manually adjust the spacing. Unfortunately you can't have the paragraph bits in the same table or their width will override the spaces, but you can use the FloatLeft or FloatRight tags to approximate the same look. if you put the paragraphs in a single celled table it will look like another column, or you can just leave the text out and it will wrap around the bottom of your other columns if it's longer
