Engine Heat: Characters and Application
Engine Heat: Main Thread
Engine Heat: Gossip Room

PLOT

The plot revolves around several small racing crews, ones sponsored by large cooperations. Each individual is one of the most skilled individuals in their own field, yet also carries some hefty character flaws to compensate for it. One particular crew is out to win this year’s tournament, winning prize money that will set them up for live. Can another team thwart their plans or just create chaos?

Team one:
Handler/Teamleader (F): Aurora Firestone  (Straight)
Mechanic/Greasejunky (F): Alex Sandstrum (Bi)
Driver (M): Alex Grey Mercer (Bi)
Driver (F): Joy Avalon (Bi)
Technician (F): Vivian Lancaster (Bi)
Truck driver/Mechanic (M): Dane Todd (Straight)

Team Two:
Handler/Teamleader (?):
Mechanic/Greasejunky (?):
Driver (F): Irina Tschenko (Bi)
Driver (?):
Technician (?):
Truck driver/Mechanic (?):

Others:
Announcer/Journalist (?):

STORY
“AND WITH JUST TWO LAPS TO GO!!”

The announcer nearly screamed, trying to let himself be heard. Thousands of spectators were roaring in their seats, half of them for the race, the other for the explosions. In the year 2059, everything was a spectator spot.

"Just three more mile, you understand?" A voice said calmly through the headset. "There is a piece of debris in the middle of the road exactly a quarter of a mile from here. You race down to it, avoid it at the last second and hopefully take out one of them." The driver said nothing, eyes fixed at his surroundings. He had already reached to point of shutting down everything around him, not hearing the explosions, screams and roaring engines. He rammed his bike to the left, avoiding the burned out wreck that was embedded in the ground there, seconds later an explosion could be heard, followed by the sounds of screaming and pieces of metal falling to the ground. A burst of flame erupted from the exhaust of the Skyliner as its driver gave it everything he had. He could hear the vehicle protesting, metal shaking and vibrating. “Come on bitch! Roar for me!” He yelled out as he blasted towards the finish line. He could almost feel the breath of the other drivers in his neck, only providing more fuel for his insane end sprint. There was a natural limiter on these bikes, one his mechanic had removed for him; crazy bitch. He knew the thing was nearly ready to explode when he crossed the finish line, immediately letting the throttle go.

He drove the vehicle to the side, skidding to a halt. The minute he removed the helmet from his face and threw it up in the ear, he heard the thunderous boom of feet stamping on seats, shouting and hands clapping, even some gunfire to celebrate. The driver, Alex, beamed as he held up his arm, enjoying the applause he got. Although it was only the second race of the season, he had done well this day. His vehicle was still intact and he had not received any bullet wounds or stabbing injuries. This year’s blood-race was especially brutal, yet the prize money was mouth-watering. He heard tires grinding to a halt behind him, signalling the arrival of his teammate. Seconds later a punch landed on his shoulder, in her way complimenting him for a job well done. He enjoyed the scene a little more before he glanced at his right, seeing his team mate meet up with their mechanic.

The mechanic was a fucking piece of work, 50% insane, the other prodigy child. The things she could do with an engine was unreal. She was simply too good to be fired from the team, yet also too unstable to be left alone without any supervision. She once quoted that an engine wasn’t complete until the sheer roaring sounds could get her off.

The driver was similar to himself, adrenaline junky, troubled childhood and a fixation to go faster and faster. They only had one rule, don’t fuck with each other while driving, the other side was ok. She was the leading female driver and stood fourteenth in the national ranking, compared to her first place as a drinker within the team.

Alex groaned as he was led towards one of the side rooms, his bike and helmet being taken care off by his mechanic. He was led into the room and was instantly engulfed in flashing lights and cameras bleeping on. Now came the only downside to his job, besides death. He spoke the words he had been trained to say, all written down by his sponsors. Larger companies now ruled where nations had been ruling before. The financial problems in the beginning of this age where fucking enormous, one crisis after another. Finally nations collapsed underneath their own depths and corporations rose up from their ashes, carving out their own little territories. Without those countries, ethics and laws changed aswell, slowly as that might have been. Now sponsorship, blood races, cage fights to the death, etc, all was now permitted. Alex couldn’t give a dam, he wasn’t hired to be a historian nor a philosopher.

He signed a picture of himself, a picture of his rookie debut. Back then he simply had a self-bought engine and an old sword, coupled with a whole lot of balls and recklessness. Three races later and he had a sponsorship going for him and was recruited in a good team. That had been three years ago. He signed the picture and left the room, waving to the cameras as he moved towards the garages and locker rooms.

He passed another member of his crew, a talented technician. She was this age’s Beethoven, swapping violins with terabytes and pianos with software. Everyone called her Wizzy, seeing as she was a god dammed wizard when it came to tinkering and fine tuning. If you coupled her with their mechanic, you birthed one of the greatest race monsters ever. He grinned as he passed her, not wanting to bother her and her tinkering. She was changing or updating something in his car, no doubt fine-tuning something inside of it. While their mechanic as a god dammed lunatic, Wizzy was a quite normal person, although as guidable and innocent as you could be. More than once had Alex seen Wizzy being teased or toyed with by her team mates.

He went towards his locker and began undoing his suit, placing the tight fitting suit inside of it. He glanced at his naked frame, bruised on his thighs and arms. A few scratch marks, although that had been before the race. He forced himself into the shower and let the warm water heat up his frame, driving away at least some of the fatigue. He heard the knock on the door, no doubt his handler. “Yhea, come in.” He said as he ran his fingers through his hair. The handler was someone to hold this team together, send by the company they worked for. She could be considered ‘sane’ when compared to the rest of the team. She had both the intellect and the social skills to get along with everyone, yet was secure enough to sometimes be one of ‘guys’ and take a punch, even help out with the repairs if they had a hand short.
He glanced at her and nodded, non-verbally telling her that he would see her in a few minutes. He left the room and opened his locker again, glancing at the picture he had taped there. It was an old picture, taken when he first joined the team. They had changed since then, only getting closer and closer. Just glancing at the picture would give any man a reason to stick to this team, something he was very, very aware off.

From left to right: His handler, his teammate, the mechanic, the technician.

Welcome to the team Scribbles! Any character(s) you like in particular?

Thanks! I almost instantly called dibs on his partner (I love that mohawk) but I'm leaning towards the technician now as I have a few ideas which go beyond hawk-love.

Mark me down for the handler. If Scribbles is more interested in the female driver, I might be interested in the technician role as well. For now, the handler is my focus.

Name: Aurora Firestone
Nick Name: Fire (maybe Auwhora?)
Apparent Age: 27
Sexuality: Straight
Gender: Female
Civilian Appearance: Scanty business suit
Work Appearance: Green bikini bottoms, White/Grey Team jacket with sponsor logos with a loose blue shirt under it
Bio: Aurora had a rather weird career of various jobs, ranging from stripper to show model to secretary, when she had been sent by her last company to represent them in the team that her company so heavily sponsored. It didn't take very long for her to switch loyalties as she found her family among the rest of the team. She was a 27 year old blonde with a bright future in show modeling, but while she couldn't properly drive her own car, she had loved 'the races' ever since she was a girl and often had had shown more interest in the events themselves rather than her modeling work. To be sent by the company to supervise a team, that was a dream come true.
Personality: Some traces of intellect could be apparent to a keen observer. Aurora is more than just a dumb blonde girl with tits. She likes her work organized, though wasn't going to complain about a physical mess in the garages and workshops. She's easy to get friendly with, approachable by people who wanted to approach her for whatever reason and had a talent for solving conflicts between people. She held her ambition in high regard and was convinced that their team was definitely the best of them all.
Talents: Work: Organizational skills and contacts, social diplomacy. Sex: Giving fellatio
Weaknesses: Work: Impatience with people that didn't follow her every word or explanation, bad driving techniques (no talent). Sex: growing bored and disinterested after sex, <one more sexual weakness goes here>
Hard no: Things that belong in the toilet or at the hospital

Name: Alex Grey Mercer
Nick Name: The Grey Merc or simply Merc.
Apparent Age: Twenty four.
Sexuality: Considers himself mostly straight.
Gender: Male
Civilian Appearance: Alex and his wardrobe can be summed up by the words ‘jean’s and shirts, not having much variation that that department either. He tends to feel more comfortable in clothing that shows a little wear and tear, claiming it feels better that way.
Work Appearance: Standard issued racing outfit, or whatever thing his handler makes him wear these days. He swears they are getting tighter and tighter, yet it will no doubt help with aerodynamics, right?
Bio: One of the many orphans that the old world left behind in its self-destruction. His mother had abandoned him at an early age, already seeing that his father could not support his family any more. The old man worked himself to death, literally, leaving him as an orphan at the age of five. The state took him in then, along with the thousands of others back then. A year later the remnants of the state simply collapsed and anarchy ruled. He made a living as any brat would, stealing and begging, occasionally doing less ‘soul cleansing’ favours to get by or out of trouble. By the age of sixteen he had ‘purchased’ a motorcycle and participated in some street racers, quickly making a name for himself there. Money led to food and better equipment, finally even some ‘nicer’ clothing. His early twenties was spend traveling, leaving the remnants of former cities and nations behind, seeking out more controlled places, mostly those were corporations now held power. A year later he was drafted for a position in a new racing crew, seeing as the old one had died.
Personality: Both very mature and childish. He can be quite cold and calculating when it comes to survival, not caring if someone dies on the track or if he has to lie his way out of a situation. The lack of education sometimes makes him appear naïve, or younger than he is. More than once he has been ‘fancy worded’ into a press conference by his handler, not really knowing what it meant until he got there.
Talents/Flaws:
+Heightened instinct: He lacks the safety training and taught skills the other drivers have, making his driving a bit more chaotic and unpredictable. He relies mostly on his instinct while driving, occasionally daring turns or manoeuvres that would soil another driver.
+High Libido: Being a young man coupled with his constant adrenaline inducing work, leaves him with certain urges and frustration that he usually vents in the only way he knows, sex. In the old world he would have been diagnosed as an addict or at the very least a pervert. In this new world he was simply seen as a ‘healthy’ and ‘energetic’ young man.
-Low tolerance to alcohol: Booze was expensive where he grew up, not to mention scarce. What little people had was used for self-medication or as form of currency. He actually quite likes the stuff, yet cannot for the life of him hold more than a couple of shots. More than once has he been duck taped to a pole after a drunken stupor.
-Naive: Due to having little to no education, he lacks certain ‘fancy’ words or does not understand some situations. He is a quick learner, yet sometimes he gets taken advantage of this fact. Compared to his amazing street smarts, this is one of his biggest flaws and the reason he is so easily handled by his handler.
Hard no: Anal on my character and toilet related items.

Do you need a driver? I'd like permission to change her hair if that's okay. And does she need a bike? I was thinking along the lines of a 3-wheeled T-Rex motorcycles and her role as a support driver.

Will have a profile up soon, don't have time right now.

The photo is an old picture. You can change her hairstyle if you want, even the colour and length. The drivers operate a whole bunch of machinery. Some races they need to use cars, others bikes. In free form matches, anything goes.

You can be a support driver that occasionally drives, a good driver that competes with Alex, or just someone that helps around and drives the truck that houses their equipment and machines.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Name: Joy Avalon
Nick Name: "Silent Avalon"
Apparent Age: 23
Sexuality: Straight, though inexperienced with same-sex situations
Gender: Female
Civilian Appearance: Dressing rather conservatively, having no need to show off any unnecessary skin. She tends to wear with every outfit a trench coat that ends a foot or two above the ground. She has two versions: a short-sleeved coat for hot and humid weather and a long-sleeved one for the colder temperatures. Tends to wear her long, straight black hair with purple highlights down and free.
Work Appearance: Standard issue racing jumpsuit shining the team's colors and emblazoned with several sponsor logos. A bit too form-fitting and tight nonetheless, Joy will her cross-tape nipples to match her conservative look, though it tends to have the opposite effect.
Bio: As someone who was born literally in the garage and the racetrack, Joy had many influences and many opportunities to drive. Daughter to the man, a retired racer from the days of old, who formed this rag tag bunch of racing aficionados, she was privy to drive as many cars, trucks, and bikes sponsors had provided them. A year after her father's passing, Joy takes care of driving the team's truck that houses the team's equipment and machine as well as driving her support 3REX vehicle in races. Though not blood related to Alex, most of the team and some fans address her as the "Grey Merc's youngest sister." She hates this title, as she was attracted to her teammate's appearance the first time she saw him and continued to be awed by his cold style of racing.
Personality: More reserved and conservative than her teammate. While he takes the limelight, she will be most likely take the backstage role and support her teammate from afar. She also tends to be shy and wouldn't initiate a conversation when she had the choice to do so.
Talents/Flaws:
(+)Pro-Anal – Flexible and daring, Joy has the knack of receiving anal rather than vaginal. A desire not to risk getting a baby or that her hole is more pleasurable than the front are both possible reasons.
(+)Extra Observant – Joy, being a support driver, knows the in and outs of the racetrack. Before every race she will most likely be in her quarters getting to know every inch of the track, without having the need to practice first hand. She will relay her vital info to her teammates.
(-)Not at all that experienced in bed – Since she enjoys receiving anal as her secret fetish, when having regular intercourse with a partner, she tends not to enjoy it as much when anal is not performed. She also has a lower stamina, leading to her passing out half the time.
Support Mentality/Non-competitive – Always taking the support role, she tends to finish behind all of the other racers. She has the survival instinct to dodge and weave her way out of harm's way, but when no danger is present, she tends to just race casually.
Hard no: Toilet play, extreme scarring

Alright added you in!

Still have the technician and the mechanic open.

I have no problem in changing it up again, creating another team mate or mechanic if people want to either double up on a profession or want another character.

Any ideas on when we start this baby off?

I was thinking we should wait for Saturday evening, give more people the chance to participate?

I'm alright with giving this some more time to gain exposure. Saturday evening sounds good, perhaps we can see how the situation is then and reconsider.

I'm still deciding on her talents since I don't want to mimic anyone, also is it alright that I edited her slightly from what you described in the main post?

Name: Vivian Lancaster
Nick Name: Wiggy
Apparent Age: Twenty-Four
Sexuality: Bi
Gender: Female
Civilian Appearance: Wiggy enjoys wearing a variety of clothes but for now, she simply enjoys a casual style of jeans and tank tops.
Work Appearance: She wears the team jumpsuit but with the zip usually pulled down to dangerous levels...
Bio: Vivian was born to a long line of racers, from cars and bikes to boats and planes, which is why when she picked up the computer better than the wheel or stick it gave her parents cause for concern. Fortunately, to her family’s great relief, this did not stop her from pursuing a career on the circuit, only from being the one who steps out into the spotlight. In the end she discovered that she did love speed only more from behind the scenes and from the perspective of the crew rather than on the driver’s seat. She also loves to discuss ways to push the vehicles to greater lengths with the mechanic or simply scream from the background as she watches her work put to the test by the driver. She is fairly eager to see what she has to work with when she meets the new team.
Personality: Despite her choice in careers, Vivian is terrified of going anything over the driving limit. She’s simply a cautious young woman with a penchant for tangling herself up in wires rather than vehicle-wrecks, or at least that’s how she likes to think of it. In truth, she’s generally terrified of the world around her while being fairly jumpy when near anyone or if anywhere but within the safe confines of the garage or her home. Socially, she tends to only operate comfortably when around friends while quick to withdraw should any strangers enter the room. This doesn’t limit her from engaging with new people, it just means that she won’t make the first move unless she finds a compelling reason to do so.
Talents/Flaws:
(+) Sexual Extrovert - Sexually, Wiggy is almost a completely different person as she shifts from withdrawn to completely outgoing.
(-) Closet Nymph - Wiggy can find it difficult to say no when someone pushes hard enough but despite this trait she's actually less inclined to having sex. Knowing her flaw, Wiggy makes a special effort to avoid contact, keep a safe distance and always ensure she has an exit strategy.
(+) Perfectionist - Wiggy normally isn't satisfied until the equipment is running at a hundred percent and so she'll sometimes work far beyond the required hours, crunching numbers and adjusting accordingly, until she reaches her nigh-impossible goals.
(-) Work-a-holic - Unfortunately, Wiggy has a tendency to overdo it, for fear that any mistake on her part could result in a horrific accident or even death. With this in mind she tends to drive herself too hard and while this may help for one race it can ironically impair her perceptiveness and leave her prone to making the odd mistake come the next race.
Hard no: Toilet stuff or anything too gory…

We still have one more slot open for the grease monkey.

Anyone out there willing to be a mechanic, feel free to sign up.
Closing the thread at Saturday-ish.

As for our current players, any ideas/suggestion for a partnering system?
Feel free to mingle and discuss potential scenes.

Updated the list and added sexuality as well.

Dibs on the only male!

In all seriousness, we could have all the characters competing for Alex's attention, it might be fun/ny, although having a few more men in the plot wouldn't hurt I think.

EDIT: here's the character sheet, let me know if you want me to change anything.

Name: Francesca Reyes
Nick Name: Frankie
Apparent Age: 24
Sexuality: Lesbian
Gender: Female
Civilian Appearance: The boyish blonde wears tight blue jeans and a white tank top. Her hands, although she washes them almost obsessively, seem like they're perpetually stained with grease, even when they're clean. She runs her hands through her short spiky hair and grins devilishly, a hint of madness in her eyes.
Work Appearance: She wears coveralls in the team colors and a set of heavy goggles. Her hands are either covered in heavy work gloves that let her touch the still-hot parts of a bike fresh off the track, or bared for delicate work.
Bio: The first time she felt an engine roar under her, Frankie knew she'd found her calling. As a child, she was always hanging around her father's garage. Her father and his mechanics never seemed to mind the tomboy's presence, and she learned a great deal from helping them. But times went bad, and her father lost first his garage, then his wife and child, then his sanity, and finally his life. Frankie, taken to live with her mother a whole country away, never saw him again. As she grew up, it became apparent that she took after her father in more ways than one. In addition to his talent for engines, she'd inherited his tastes in women (tall, busty) and his mental instability. She's got a job working for this race team now, which suits her fine, since she's surrounded by beautiful women and powerful engines. Frankie's in heaven, at least until her brain makes it hell.
Personality: Frankie's literally insane. Her brain just doesn't work right. Whether it's being swept away by high times and going manic, or hearing the voices of her teammates in her head even when they're not talking to her, something's just not right with the girl. Other than the insanity, she's brash, crude, forward, and not the type to hold things back. She can also tend to be aggressive and hot-tempered, although she tries to keep that under wraps.
Talents/Flaws:
+Mechanical Genius: Frankie has never met an engine that she didn't know how to make sing and roar like nobody else could. An vehicle or machine that Frankie has overhauled and fine-tuned will perform in ways it was never intended to.
-Hot-rodded: The flipside of Frankie's mechanical genius. She has very little concern for the safety or longevity of the machines she works, and they're likely to fail catastrophically as soon as they've done what she wanted them to do. If she tunes a bike for a sprint, it'll break down in a marathon, and a bike that she builds for stamina and durability won't take well to being pushed too hard in the short run.
+Cunning Linguist: Frankie likes to please a woman, and knows how to do so quite well. She may not be the most socially adept lover, but girl she'll make you feel like you ain't never felt before.
-Mentally Unstable: Frankie ain't right in the head. She's prone to manic or depressive outbursts, delusion, and just straight-up reckless behavior.
Hard no: toilet play, gore, anal play.

Updated the thread and created two more.

This thread is now aimed for application and character posting.

All OOC chat can go to the Gossip room. (We have booze)

And the main thread is up. I tried to leave it as open ended as possible, allowing each and every one of you to create a fun intro post.

Added a new slot for a truck driver/mechanic, this time a male, seeing as Alex will be dehydrated otherwise.
Please check he character list and see if you agree with the profession you got and the sexuality that is connected with it.

on the character sheet it says that each talent comes with two flaws, but on the sheets posted in the thread it looks like each talent only has one flaw associated. Should I worry about that?

No, you should worry about writing skills when it is late at night. I fixed it and I thank you for pointing it out.

Maybe it's not my place to say (I'm pretty new to the site and don't really know how things work for group stuff), but it seems like our characters have awfully similar concepts (insane genius mechanic). If you're attached to the concept, i'm fine to change my character a bit, but I'd rather have a bit more variety, you know?

I'm not sure if it was a case of me having an old browser tab open from when I was looking at the thread Friday morning (which I'm very bad at doing) or if I simply was being strikingly unobservant, but I didn't see your character post there. Took the "insane genius mechanic" inspiration from the intro that flassche posted but hadn't noticed that you had already done the same.

Terribly sorry, didn't mean to do that. I've taken down the previous post, will tweak my character in a different direction and repost him.

If I can suggest Marconi, how about taking a Gentle Giant approach? We have such a dysfunctional family of characters at the moment that it might be nice to have someone level-headed and always ready to dispense a little wisdom.
