[Interest Check] THE NORMANDY: Into the Unknown

NORMANDY: Into the Unknown
Commissioned: June 6th, 2044
First Inter-Galaxy Space Ship

So, I was thinking about a game I tried to run, and then I was thinking about the awesomeness of Mass Effect. So I decided to combine the two! Essentially, Mass Effect Technologies in regards to Armor and Weaponry (and the Ship). But, with only one known Alien Race. Think Mass Effect-meets-Battle LA.

The Crew of the Normandy, in this case, will be the first humans to go through a Jump Gate using its Jump Drive (something the Aliens have proven to work) only something goes slightly wrong and they find themselves far from home with no way back. I imagine that an Alien Race attacks them and they crash on a planet, a little survival element here, with the story arcing quest to get home. So a little Farscape-esque here too.

If interested, post here.

Ideas for The Crew:

Captain John Conner

The Medical Crew - Dr. Joan Summers

Squint and Blade

Sgt. Konrad Roht

Cpl. Hawkeye

PFC Karissa ‘Cougar’

The Quarani Aliens

Had there been turians I would have jumped on it, but as it is I'll be happy to just bump you up a notch. The other races just don't seem that compelling to me for a player character, that's all.

I'm interested. I loved the aspect of the Quarians, and would love to play an engineer if your still good for the game.

I'd like to either play as a Quarian, or PFC Karissa, depending on how the group fills up.

Funny how interest peaks quick suddenly :)

I'll probably be ply Sgt. Konrad Roht myself while also GMing the game.

As such, I'll start writing up more information and flesh the plot out even more. And paint a better picture for you all to use to create your characters from.

Just so you all aren't sitting idly by, here is the character sheet. Fill them out and SEND THEM TO ME. Once I accept them, I will give you permission to post them here. You can start working on them but I will not accept any until after I have written up the promised information first.

World Background:

First Contact with Alien Life in the history of the World almost ended with its demise. Coordinated attacks on all major seaboard population centers meant that millions died within the first few hours. Globally. But the adaptability and preserverance of mankind won through and - once identified - the weakness of the Aliens was shared across the globe.

The survivors of this Alien Invasion started to pick the pieces up. Technology unimagined was now in their hands. Great advances were made on all fronts - Weaponry, Travel, Science, Medicine - and the Human race jumped light years ahead. The Invasion also unified all the surviving countries on Earth into one giant Federation. It was clear now that Humans were not alone in the universe and that those Alien life forms would not be friendly.

Its been one hundred years since those events of 2021. Humans first colony on the Moon is thriving. Several other colonies have been set up on Mars where the Federation is making its first attempt at Terra-forming, turning the Red Planet green. But on the anniversary of the Invasion, in the year 2121, a new threat makes itself present.

The Quarani, however, are a peaceful nomadic race of Aliens, first making contact with the Colonies on Mars. Bloodshed was averted and while most of the Quarani fleet moved onwards on its never ending journey, several ships decided to stay behind to help develop the Human race.

Its been nearly 25 years sine then, the year is 2144. Federation Technology is something to admire and be fearful of. Body Armor, Weapons, Ships, Medicine, Technology - stuff that was once sciencefiction is now reality. And the Federation has created its first Jump Drive with the help of the Quarani. Its been modified due to the nature of the materials available to the Federation but it should work. All testing has proven that it will work.

In anniversary of the 1944 Invasion of Normandy, marking the end of the Nazis and those who would threaten world peace, the USS Normandy has been commissioned. It boasts the most advanced EVERYTHING that the Federation has ever created. Its Flight Crew, Doctors, Space Marines and Scientists have all been chosen to go into the Unknown, using the Jump Drive for the very first time.

Name: Cpl. Hawkeye

Age: 28

Sex: Male

Position: Sniper / Ship Cannon Specialist

Character Background:
Known as the strong silent type, Hawkeye is all about patience. He can sit still for hours just watching the world go by or to be more accurate, he can lay on the ground with his favorite sniper rifle trained on an enemy for (at the most) twenty-four hours till he is given the signal to take the shot. He is skilled in his ability to run and climb and has learned to free run to reach locations faster and leave locations twice as fast. This gives him an edge above most snipers but also shows just how intelligent he is.

When it comes to romance and relationships he usually finds himself being approached by a female before he says anything, some of his friends wonder if it's planned that way, if he's just lucky, or if his staring at a woman somehow hypnotizes them. Friends of the man also know that the sounds that emerge from his room a few minutes after a woman approaches him is evidence that his slow and steady ways make for great sex.

Name: Malick Alif
Age: 32
Sex: Male
Position: Chief Engineer
Character Background: Malick was born and raised on the Flotilla. He very quickly became a gear head and was quick to learning. The freighter he was raised on was damaged by a piece of space Debris, before a jump and got lost. The damaged was to way to bad, and things went down hill quickly. The hull buckled and started venting atmosphere, this wouldn't of been a problem, but the hole quickly enlarged itself and blew most of the crew out. Malick got himself tethered down and secured. His parents were part of the crew that was lost to space. He and three others managed to repair the ships jump and limp her back to the Flotilla, where all three of them were given the completion of their Pilgrimages. Malick was 15.

The Freighter, now renamed 'The Dawn's edge' was one of the ships to stay in earth's solar system and aid them in their advances. It wasn't long before Malick was working on Building the Normandy, and was the first to volunteer for the position of Chief Engineer. He is very enthusiastic about being on the Normandy.

Name:  Melissa Grant
Call sign:  Raze
Age:  25
Sex:  Female
Position:  Private First Class
Picture:  (left)
Character Background:
Mel likes to live life on the edge.  In fact, she was given that age-old choice of military or jail after one too many brushes with various members of her local law enforcement.  Although the strict protocol of the military has helped to calm her over the years, she is still a bit of a wild child.

She has a sarcastic, sometimes biting wit that not everyone can appreciate, including some members of the opposite sex who didn’t take too kindly to her rather blunt descriptions of their not-as-big-as-they-thought anatomy.  Last she heard, he was just starting to walk without the cane.

Aside from her sometimes abrasive mouth, she has a near addiction to adrenaline which has led to her adoration of ‘things that go boom’.  Her interest in explosives led to an expertise in demolitions that few could match and put her on a very short list of potentials to crew the Normandy.

But she almost wasn’t selected for the mission on the Normandy due to conflicts with a certain officer and her reaction when she found out he had a wife.  (He didn’t appreciate coming home to find Mel and his wife laughing in his living room while his wife pointed to his already packed belongings and gave him a key to a local hotel room.)  But a last minute boating accident, of all things, freed up a space on the ship and Mel was called to duty.

When it comes to men, Mel likes them well enough, and isn’t afraid to show it, but she’s real careful when ‘pissing in her own pool’, as she calls it.  She’s seen how bad things can get if it doesn’t work out.  But deep down, Mel still hopes one day to find the man who doesn’t make her want to slip arsenic in his corn flakes after the first week...
