According to what I've read, the side effects are basically an immune response from the body.  Since you had the virus, your immune system has already been primed.  Your co-worker will probably be hating life after his second dose.

I was talking to one of the nurses at work this morning and she said a couple of things I wasn't expecting.  One was that it is possible that my immune system did not make a lot of antibodies when I had covid back in October, thus this reaction to the first dose.  She also said it is a good sign that I am having this reaction as it means my body is doing what it is supposed to.

As of today, Saturday, the only lingering symptoms I seem to have is lingering fatigue and a slight cough that started yesterday.  I had a low-grade fever of 100.7 yesterday but tylenol kept it under control.  The injection site has a -huge- red splotch now, is very itchy, and still hot & hard.  Seeing as my flu shot did the same thing I expect this to go away in a couple of days.

I am hoping that since my body responded this way for the first dose the second dose will not give me any symptoms beyond the sore arm.  I also have a slight amount of sympathy for my coworker and his second dose.  But only if my second dose goes easy on me lol.
Bow to the Queen; I'm the Alpha, the Omega, everything in between.

Considering what you've said about your coworkers during this pandemic, you're more charitable than I am.   ::)

My co-workers are all scientists so at least I haven't had *that* problem.

I have particular views on this subject that would make me weary for tentative approval to the forum or perhaps prospective disapproval to the forum.

Not that I'd be disrespectful at any rate - which I would hope would preclude me from any recourse - but at any rate I don't care to trawl through 80 some pages of opinions to see if someone shares my unorthodox views. That said, I hope to have a healthy discussion in the near future!
Be still my son; you're home.
Oh when did you become so cold?
The blade will keep on descending. All you need is to feel my love.
Search for beauty, find your shore.
Try to save them all, bleed no more.
You have such ocean's within.
In the end I will always love you.

No one will punish you for expressing views as long as its polite and articulate. You may be challenged to back up your statements with sources/citations, though, and dismissed or ignored if the proofs given are inadequate. It shouldn't impact your approval though unless you violate a rule by doing so.

My advice would be to read through the stickies in this particular board, particularly regarding citing articles and logical fallacies.  Unlike most other 'politics' boards, we strive to keep things based in reality.

With regards to this particular topic, it would be good to remember that we have people on this forum who have suffered from COVID-19, who have lost people to COVID-19, who are particularly endangered by COVID-19, and who work in healthcare.

The UK has its fair share of denier-idiots as well :(

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-55531589

I had missed that one, but we have also had covid-denier Toby Young posting a picture of an empty hospital from six years ago, pretending it was current, and a demonstration outside a hospital.

The covid alert level has been raised today to level 5, which means the NHS is in danger of being overrun; this really applies to London, Kent and Essex, where the new variant is most prevalent, and cases have shot up, but they have gone up in most other places too, albeit to a lesser extent.

Boris Johnson gave a public address an hour ago, following which England will be going under a lockdown until February at least, which is similar to the one we had back in spring, with crucially, schools being closed and using remote learning. However, children did go back to school today (although many schools and local authorities managed to ensure they were still closed) giving time for post Christmas infection to get passed on. Even yesterday, Johnson was insisting that schools were safe in an interview on the BBC, but now he has performed another screeching u-turn and followed Keir Starmer and Nicola Sturgeon's lead.

It has been leaked that the hapless Education Secretary Gavin Williamson, with unnamed others, was insisting that schools should stay open, In December, he was threatening legal action against Greenwich, in London, when that borough was attempting to close its schools. on safety grounds. This government does work on leaks to favoured journalists. You assume he will resign, but members of this government don't resign (he was  sacked by Theresa May, most unusually, rather than asked to resign, for leaking secrets when he was in charge of defence).

Once again, the government has come to the right decision ,when I look at the rate of increase in infections, but far too late, after insisting that the reverse policy was correct in the strongest terms. The vaccination program does give hope, but the government are tinkering about with the gap between first and second doses on the basis that having more people having a  lot of immunity (as more people get a single dose before some start to get the second) is better than a smaller number having full immunity. That sounds reasonable, and we have made a good start, but with this government, anything can go wrong.

Staff's opting to close this thread--we'll be opening another one presently for people to use, folks, so stay tuned. The new thread is going to have some reminder guidance since covid-19 is going to be one of the more fraught topics to discuss in the PROC as of late, and we don't see that changing.
