Welcome to the Nautilus

Twelve of these scrolls were sent out by Elena Nemo the eccentric actress famous for her roles in action-adventure films and doing her own stunts. Though her movies are her claim to fame, Elena harbors a much bigger secret. She is the great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-granddaughter of the famous Captain Nemo, yes that Captain Nemo. The man in all of Jules Verne's novels had been a real man and his ship, the Nautilus had been a real one.
 

One of the best kept secrets when Elena's mother passed away six months ago, she passed the secret of the Nautilus on to her daughter who spent the following five months bringing the Nautilus up to the twenty-first century deep in international waters were no one would find it. That secret wasn't the only one that her mother passed on to her though. Elena was also given Captain Nemo's log. His journal that he kept his entire life logging the different treasures he knew about, transported, or had his suspicions of. Elena doesn't want to be an actress who plays an adventurer. Elena wants to BE an adventurer. Scouring the globe she has sent out these scrolls to her perspective crew hoping to lure them into the adventure of a lifetime.

What I am looking for here is 3-5 people to join Elena’s crew. This is meant to be an adventure game where the crew are tracking down the impossible. Whether it be in the sea within the nautilus, in perilous jungle, or blistering heat, is up to us, though preferably, ALL of the options.

I will be playing the role of Elena, the eccentric actress and ship’s captain. Elena has invited all these people because of the skills that they provide. Some potential roles we could have filled.

Elena Nemo

Name: Elena (Nemo) Carter

Age: 26

Role: Captain – The Eccentric

Personality: Elena is in a word happy. Vivacious, optimistic, and unrelenting. Elena is a take charge kind of woman who is determined to meet her goals. Elena feels that anything can be done with hard work and a positive attitude.

History: The Nemo name has been passed down to daughters for the past five generations and as such some claim that the name is cursed before of Jonathan Nemo who was rumored to have found the Book of Solomon. Coming from old money, Elena was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and the tails of wonder and glory. Though she had no way of knowing it at the time, Elena had been read stories of her great-grandfather’s adventures from his journal.

Elena began her acting career at a young age, gaining more wealth on top of what her family already had. Elena’s older brother John, named after Jonathan Nemo, left six months before their mother passed away supposedly to look for the Philosopher’s stone to heal their mother. Elena disagreed with her mother, no one should try and cheat death it was a natural part of the life cycle. Elena’s brother didn’t make it back at all and their mother passed away.

After learning about the Nautilus Elena received an anonymous package in the mail. A compass carved from ornate steel like she had never seen covered in runes and a note that said, ‘find me’. Elena recognized her brother’s handwriting but didn’t recognize the artifact that had been sent to her. It took her months of research to discover it was Vegvisir. A Norse compass that scholars had theorized hadn’t been a ‘real’ compass but a symbol used to prevent one from losing their way.

4) This game requires 1 post per week that's a seven-day time period. If you feel like you cannot do that, please let me know ahead of time and we can make arrangements for your character (GM controlled momentarily).

5) Minimum of 2 paragraph posts in public spaces please. If you choose to make smaller posts in private scenes for ease of posting that is perfectly fine.

Personality: Straightforward and strong-willed, William meets life head-on and follows his heart. William is unafraid to speak his mind or throw his weight around if needed. By nature, William is a terrible liar and can be a bit blunt. William is protective.

History: Born to a small family of commercial fishermen, William has spent just as much of his life out on the sea as he has on dry land, and while he played the role of dutiful son for the family business once he came of age, he secretly dreamed of more; a life on the sea, a life of adventure, a life like in the old stories read to him before bedtime as a child.

With his adventurous interests dismissed as a juvenile flight of fancy and growing frustration with his lot in life, it would only be a matter of time before William rebelled and left home to make his own way in the world...but the best he could really manage was work on a small cargo ship - hardly the life of interest he'd hoped for, even if he was his own man now.

Personality:

Natalie has a very bubbly personality once you get to know her. She can either be your friend or your worst nightmare. Although she doesn’t show it often, she can be quite cunning when she needs to be, which ties into her intelligent nature not to get caught. She is sarcastic and enjoys engaging in witty banter with the right person.

History:

Natalie has never seen herself as a doctor. Growing up, she thought she was going to be something less than that because that’s what her father always told her, so she started to believe it herself. So, she focused on her studies, hitting the books every chance she got before going abroad to study the medical necessities of becoming a doctor.

When the scroll came, it took her by surprise, but she accepted the request. Natalie needed to be more adventurous than she already was and do something more with her time. She had gotten her degrees, and maybe someone out there was watching her closely.

Either way, she cannot wait to embark on the adventure with Elena and her chosen crew.

Role: Well-Traveled Adventurer
Personality: Tony is a man of action. He is not reckless in the shoot first, ask questions never sort. A good plan is always appreciated but at some point he stops talking and starts doing. His love of adventure is a byproduct of his philosophy on life. You only have a certain number of years on this planet. You can sit behind a desk and do the same things over and over. Or you can go out and live by seeing and trying new things. If you don't have an enemy or two, you're doing something wrong. Cool under fire and always ready to try a new food or card game.
History: Tony never got to meet his parents. His mother died in childbirth and his father was killed in action during an Mi6 operation. He was taken in by an older relative, a retired Naval Captain. Tony had a strong personality and often came at odds with the couple that raised him. They were all about enjoying their retirement and a quite life of giving back to their community--Tony was trying to have the adventures in the books they made him read. What is the point of reading about sword fights and tales of daring do if you didn't dare to do?
There was a compromise of sorts. Tony would pay more attention to his studies and in turn, he would be enrolled in a proper sabre fencing school. That worked for a while, he learned discipline and how to fight. Which was good because he was not a fan of bullies and was less the tell the teacher type and more the stand up to the bully sort of guy.
When he got curious about his birth parents at the age of 11, his adoptive parents were prepared. Tony's mother was a painter. She had illustrated a few children's books. They really didn't have much on his father due to his Mi6 career being secretive but before that he was in the British Air Force and he had an ancestor that was a Knight Templar. They could already see Tony's next question coming. His adoptive father still had some friends in the Navy. If Tony got his marks up, he could become a Royal Navy Pilot. That was close enough for the young man. Tony through himself into doing whatever he could to qualify. He joined the Royal Navy as a pilot at 18 and served until he was 26 going all over the world.
That life wasn't for him as talented as he was, he craved the adventure he wanted as a child. He resigned his commission and became a full time treasure hunter and armature historian on the Knight's Templar. Its amazing what you can see when you have some inheritance and the drive to visit different countries.
Alignment: For all the things he has seen in his time, he is a good man. He knows what is right and wrong.

Name: Barnaby Hale

Age: 31

Gender: male

Sexuality: pansexual

Role: marine biologist / oceanographer

Personality: laid back, easy going, kind hearted, lazy in spite of a brilliant scientific intelligence, quite friendly but pretty socially awkward; something like an old style nerd trying slowly to come out from his (teehee, a pun!) shell.

History: if someone were to think that Barnaby was destined - or heavily conditioned - to a sea life, well, they wouldn't be wrong. Son of an ex USA Navy official turned pacifist and ecologist, and a marine vet, he was more or less literally raised a friend and ally of the seas. He studied and practiced with passion, loving the world of his fellow scientists and researchers, but he felt split between two paths: securing a good academic position and going for a University career, like his wise parents advised, or following the hands-on approach of field research.

The scroll gave him that little push he needed to make his choice.

Alignment: he's a gentle, reliable and altruistic person, but he might turn surprisingly aggressive towards people who threaten to damage his beloved marine ecosystems.
