Fallout 69 - The Cascadian Expanse (Interest check)

I've got an idea bouncing around in my head that I can flesh out with a go-ahead, based on the mention of FEV experiments. In the original Fallout (circa 2160ish?) the Master was trying to replicate his own psychic abilities by injecting FEV into people's brains (and mostly failing). What if the AI overseeing V69 was aware of that project and decided to try a slower and more stable version of the Master's work via genetic modifications and selective breeding?

My character would be the most successful of this line of research, a functional empath who feels the emotions and feelings of people around him. The Fallout-verse even has a ready-made solution for a drawback. Without a psychic nullifier, which the AI doesnt have the ability to build, his empathic sense is always 'on', forcing him into an antisocial lifestyle - very difficult in a Vault - since he cant handle being bombarded with the emotions of large groups of people.

There's also some interesting effects if I make him a sexual sadist...he'd derive pleasure from inflicting pain on people, but at the same time he'd have to feel the pain he's causing.

I could do a connection. As my character is a scientist involved in the experimentation/treatments he is well placed for connections.

As for modifications, they could be physical modifications, whether they be overt like enlarged parts of the body, extra limbs/parts of the body. Or it could be subtler in terms of parts of the physiology that allow for increased endurance, increased sensitivity, potent pheromones, pheromone control or more. You could do something more mental with enhanced intelligence, enhanced vision, awareness. Practical modifications like increased durability could be something that would be done to improve humanity, increased speed.

Those are great ideas. Feel free to work with the concept and work up a character

Wonderful! Would love to have you along. As for modifications, it can be pretty much whatever you can come up with that sounds interesting to you. A night eye adaption that lets you see in the dark, hyper regenerative tissue which lets you heal from wounds faster than normal, hyper flexibility for increased and stealth and acrobatics and then pair it with a fitting drawback.

I think it would have a definite impact on the types of social structures and relationships that would develop, so setting a specific number will help with developing characters. For example, a small population like 100 would mean almost everyone is related to some degree and so taboos against incest would be lighter or entirely absent. A very large population like 1,000 might see more polyamorous groups.More people also means a bigger Vault, so its directly relevant for me.

As I am writing it up I am thinking Vault 69 had an initial population of around 800 people and it was designed to accommodate more since this facility was meant to act as a repopulation experiment designed to breed better humans with higher fertility rates and genetic advantages to better survive atomic annihilation.

So I am imagining it was likely around 700 initial dwellers, which would be evenly divided between 350 men and 350 women with the rest being staff assigned with monitoring Ma Mere and conducting and carrying out the A.I.'s instructions as well as experiments and protocols, maintenance, security, etc.

This leaves room for cryogenic labs, FEV labs, gestation chambers, secret compartments and things of that nature.

I have removed the world and lore building and I have instead provided a link to a hopefully much easier and more pleasant to read format that is going more in depth on the Cascadia Expanse, the important factions, important people and so on in the Wastelands.

The character sheet template will remain for now while I work on the world building section, but I shall be working to improve that soon and including it in the Player's Guide soon.

That is lore accurate to our setting. I'm actually glad you pointed that because it highlights something I neglected to point in the character sheet for character creation. We're going to base our creation off of the older iterations (generally speaking) that being 3 and New Vegas rather than 4.

So that being said, that means 5 points in every stat at the start. You then have 5 additional points to spend how you desire. Just as in the actual game, you can adjust the attributes up and down to further mold your character in the direction that you desire that best fits what you want to achieve.

The character sheet will be amended to reflect this change. Thank you very much for pointing my little slip there

Had an idea that an experiment was done to introduce the heat cycle that animals sometimes go through because when in heat and animal tends to have increased fertility and they find a mate fairly quick because of the change in their attitude and pheromones.

So they try introducing animal dna to humans, giving them animal traits like ears and tail, senses. But then the drawback is going into heat which bumps up breeding as a higher priority, feeling more aroused and sensitive etc. I wanted to make a character that tries to rebel against the nature of the vault but when in heat that rebelling attitude becomes much weaker.

On a different note, how would pregnancy be handled? A theme of this game seems to be modified reproduction, so if a character gets pregnant, how would it be handled. Would it be accelerated, does it happen in the background, or like in other games, is it conveniently ignored

As for pregnancy. I believe the best way for it to be handled is to let the players involved decide what they want to do. I could see accelerated birthing times being a thing for some dwellers. If your character becomes pregnant, you'll play it out in-game time. When it is time for the child to arrive, the "birthing" can be something left to the imagination.

This will be an open world, sandbox adventure, where you are free to create and make stories with whoever you like, however you like, while exploring the Cascadian Expanse.

There will be an overarching plot, with group events where everyone who wants to participate is encouraged and welcomed to participate, that will be run by the GM acting as a storyteller. This is the reason that I chose to make this game freeform, rather than stats and rules-based.

I don't want to stifle anyone's creativity; I want the opposite. I want to foster and nurture the ability of people who enjoy the Fallout experience, the wild lore, the crazy experiments, and the desolate wastelands. I want anyone interested and intrigued by that to have the freedom to create the character they want, that fits into our setting, and to explore those themes.

At it's heart, this game, as well as Throne of Chains (my other group game I'm shopping) is about adventure, storytelling and compelling moments. Yes sex is a part of those worlds, it's prominent, but it isn't the focus. The focus is the story. The stories that players will create, with each other, with the world they have been given and how they choose to explore it.

At the opening of the game, your character, if you are a Vault Dweller will be gathered before the Overseer and their chosen select staff and tasked with heading out into the Cascadian Expanse to explore, to scavenge, to look for food and medicine and weapons and things the Vault is running desperately low on and needs to survive. Some Dwellers may choose to stay behind, to run a shop in the Vault, or do some other function that decide they want to do. You are encouraged as a player to take the tools and to create as much or as little as you desire.
