Welcome To Gomorra

Population 1643 1642

| Back to Main Page |

Welcome, to any and all looking to make the move to Gomorra. It may not be the biggest town in the Maze, but Gomorra's filthy rich in ghostrock - and that means it's filthy rich in miners, businessmen, saloon owners, madames, saloon gals, shopkeeps and more all trying to get a slice of the pie. If you're looking to make the move to Doomtown - that's just a little nickname some folk have taken for the place - you might want to start up with brushing up on some history. After that, you might want to make sure you got an idea about the Great Maze - formerly known as 'California,' and decide what it you want to do in Gomorra. There's plenty of ways to get rich - and plenty of ways to push up daisies, too.

Once you're ready, send Ciosa and Sindra a PM, and we'll be happy to get you started on how to build a character. The basics are right here.

Good luck, and we'll see you around town!

MAJOR EVENTS

May 2nd, 1876

Sheriff J.P. Coleman was shot and killed by an unknown assailant. His murder is attributed to Jackson "Blackjack" P. Jackson, a wanted outlaw.

On May 3rd, 1876

An announcement was made by the town mayor that a new Sheriff would be elected on May 6th, 1876. Acting Sheriff until the election is finalized is Senior Deputy Nash Bilton.

May 4th, 1876

A member of the Blackjack’s Raiders firebombs the Casino Morongo after it is bought and re-opened by the Sweetrock Mining Company. No one is killed, though Max Baines is badly injured, and the culprit escapes without capture. Nash Bilton is first to arrive on the scene, and Teddy Howell extinguishes the blaze before it spreads but is taken to the doctors after for treatment for burns and smoke inhalation. Teddy Howell carried seven of the Casino’s soiled doves to safety from within.

An unknown creature attacks Lady Elisabeth Doyle that evening, and badly mauls her. It also murders Thommy Jones, a long time Gomorran resident and owner of Jones’ Mercantile and Trade, as well as visiting Confederate officer Edward Baldrick, a scion of a well-to-do Southern family. A search party organized by Nathan Hunter leads the brave to pursue the creature towards Deadman’s Rest, but the bridge collapses under Nathan Hunter. Others are pulled to safety, but Hunter plummets into the waters below. He is presumed dead after a search.

May 5th, 1876

Panic from the unknown beast spreads throughout Gomorra - petitions are made to move up the election, as the need for a sheriff is considered urgent after the firebombing and creature’s attack. Elections are formalized for May 6th. Numerous reports of attacks by the Maze Rats on independent miners escalate this tension.

Rumors of a secret meeting between the Maze Rats and Blackjack’s Raiders also induce a wave of panic, and the rumors of the scalping of all the members of a farmstead in near proximity to Gomorra heighten the need for immediate action. The majority of the members of the Law Dogs are busy round the clock keeping order in Gomorra.

The husk of Casino Morongo is purchased from Sweetrock, and construction begins on a new hotel.

May 6th, 1876

Elections are held - and neither of the two front-runners show, until Nash Bilton arrives with blood on his clothes and a Sioux arrow in his shoulder. He pledges to bring order to the town and protect it by any means necessary, and in the wake of the violence and without a strong opponent, he wins by a wide margin. In the wake of the election, Joseph Eyes-Like-Rain appears in the town square with the ‘scalped’ farmstead in tow - none of them had been injured, and the head of the farm openly stated that the only reason their farm had weathered the last winter was by donations of food given by the Sioux Union.

When challenged by Nash about the ‘increased aggression of the Sioux,’ Joseph looked pointedly at the arrowhead still in Nash’s shoulder and stated that if the Sioux wished him dead, he would be. Joseph departed without being challenged.

The newly launched steam-powered ‘Mazeboat’ casino ship Hoyle’s Folly sets out from Lost Angels on its maiden voyage north. It is anticipated to arrive in Gomorra on May 8th.

May 7th, 1876

The Collegium launches the first airship entirely of their own design. Most of Gomorra, familiar with their many disasters, winces as it takes to the air - but it flies without incident, and after a few turns around the city, takes to Denver to purchase supplies on behalf of the Collegium and Gomorra. Agatha Dunwich, noted for her co-starring role in a number of dime novels and a new member of the Collegium, is made Captain of the Collegium Airship Trailblazer.

Construction of the rebuilt casino/hotel in the center of town continues and makes rapid progress. The proprietor, Abraham Solomon, makes an announcement that they will open for business on the 11th, and that free drinks and half-price soiled doves will be provided for the first three hours of operation.

Judge Warwick is attacked in his home by an unknown assailant. He executes the attacker with a shotgun at point blank range, and the assailant is unidentifiable.

May 8th, 1876

Hoyle’s Folly does not arrive in Gomorra.

On the evening of May 8th, roughly a hundred disheveled passengers arrive on foot, claiming to be the former passengers of Hoyle’s Folly. They recount the capture of Hoyle’s Folly by Blackjack’s Raiders. They were robbed but left unharmed, and provided enough food and water to reach Gomorra. Most were wealthy individuals, able to pay for goods and rooms on credit, and over the next few days carriages and Iron Dragon railroad return many of them to their homes. A number are forced to remain in Gomorra until they can find work to pay for their own passage.

May 9th, 1876

Construction of the new bridge to Deadman’s Rest is completed, and Nash Bilton and the entirety of the Law Dogs move to the island in search of the creature responsible for the May 4th attacks. The lunatic asylum on Deadman’s Rest is opened, and the overseer and patients are found eviscerated, much like the corpses of Edward Baldrick and Thommy Jones. The lone survivor on the island is Dolores Whateley, who is found covered in dried blood yet unwounded. A relative recluse of the Whateley family, it is the first time Dolores has been seen in six years. She is arrested and pending trial in the Law Dogs main jail cell. She is stark raving insane, singing and acting like a child, and the prompt arrival of Nicodemus to claim his wife is rebuffed. Tensions ensue, but Nicodemus withdraws while Dolores is jailed.

May 10th, 1876

A number of children in Gomorra have an identical nightmare - they awake to find the Grim Reaper looking in on their windows. The children are terribly frightened, but all describe the same iconic image - a hooded man with a skull for a face and a scythe. The town’s schoolmarm makes Mayor Cochran aware of the identical nightmares, but he dismisses the concern.

A large number of miners in Gomorra gather for a meeting at the Union Hall - Maze Rat attacks on independent miners have taken nearly fifty lives in the last few days, and the Maze Rat’s assaults have put a dozen mines out of commission.

May 11th, 1876

Gameplay opens in Babel’s Tower, the newly complete casino/hotel built on the site of the Casino Morongo.
