Gomorra's Main Mesa

TOURIST’S FOLLY

The main thoroughfare leading into Gomorra, East Main Street connects the mainland to the main mesa. Often referred to as ‘tourist’s folly,’ the shops, hotels, and entertainment venues along the Tourist’s Folly are usually overpriced, of questionable quality, and quite skilled at fleecing newcomers to the city. They grow progressively more srespectable the further into town one gets, but those on the edge of the mesa are well known as shameless grifters, and most permanent residents avoid association with the ‘cliffside con artists.’ To the south of East Main Street is primarily entertainments, which grow steadily cheaper the further south one travels. To the north of East Main Street are shops, and a few saloons and hotels that specialize in food over drink and lodging – usually with open cafes to allow shoppers to grab a quick bite before returning to their shopping. The further north one travels, the greater a premium is placed on quality.

TOURIST'S FOLLY ATTRACTIONS

Bakery

Owner: Anna Douglas

Operator: Anna Douglas

Range of Quality: Average - Fine

Description: The scent of baking bread, cinnamon rolls, and other pastry treats waft throughout the streets of the area starting at around three am as Anna gets ready for the morning. She offers fresh baked goods daily and continues baking through the afternoon. Each evening, Anna donates her day-old goods to the mining camps to help feed those that may not otherwise have food for the day. It is not uncommon for those that are most hungry to appear around her shop in the early evening. The shop itself is very clean and stocked full of her freshly baked treats in the morning and all but empty by the evening. She also has a couple small tables for people to sit at but is by no means an eatery.

Dress Shop

Owner: Bethany Clarke

Operator: Bethany Clarke, Alice Clarke

Quality: El Cheapo - Average

Description: Bethany takes great pride in her shop. Her shop has many little 'homey' touches that make her customers feel right at home. When visiting her shop, she offers her customer beverages and a seat in one of the nice, comfortable chairs as they discuss what clothing they want tailored. Along her walls are her most popular fabrics for people to peruse. She has two large stalls for privacy when it comes time to take measurements. Bethany and her assistant, Alice, also make house calls for their business. With Alice being full grown and courted regularly by several men in town, her mother, Bethany, looks forward to any company coming into her shop. She's been known to spend a good deal of time chatting and gossiping while tending to her customers. Sometimes far longer than her customers would like. Bethany and Alice are middling seamstresses, but make a point of excellent customer service in lieu of quality wares.

The Perch

Owner: Victor Markos

Operator: Victor Markos

Quality: Fine

Description: Unlike the Feather, The Perch has no delusions of grandeur. 'Perched' upon the edge of the Mesa, with part of the building arching over the waters of the Great Maze, The Perch is a hedonists delight. Instead of purchasing time with an individual dove, the patrons of The Perch purchase a night of bliss, sampling the wares of as many of the doves they have the stamina to enjoy in a single night. Open from sundown to sunup, The Perch's customers rarely depart before the first light of morning.

Shady Jake's

Owner: Jacob “Shady Jake” Hampton

Operator: Jacob “Shady Jake” Hampton

Quality: Ordinary Description:Shady Jake managed to skirt the decency laws of Gomorra's business district by doubling as a restaurant. The waitresses serve overpriced meals (ordinary quality, but charging fine rates) in nothing more than an apron. A half dozen back rooms and a 'dessert menu' accommodate those with lewder tastes, as the only desserts listed on the menu are the various girls serving food and beverages.

Tailoring Shop

Owner: Marcellus Grayson

Operator: Marcellus Grayson and several others

Quality: El Cheapo - Average

'Description: Just looking at the building Marcellus is in would leave most with an untrained eye to believe that his shop produces remarkable quality. And the prices he charges only make his rouse seem like fact. For average quality goods, Marcellus charges fine prices. For the most part, Marcellus doesn't do much work in his shop, much preferring to leave that to his several employees but he knows just enough about his craft to keep others impressed but wouldn't be able to follow with another tailor with real skill in their craft. His shop is always immaculate and his employees are usually very busy.
