Gomorra's Main Mesa THE TRACKS Running from the town square out to the Whateley Estate, 'The Tracks' divides the miner's area from one of the nicest, most upscale ares in the town. A literal dividing point between the have and the have nots, the shops on one side of the tracks are rough, dirty buildings meant for anything a miner could desire, and elegant oppulance just across the thoroughfare. Across from the miner's areas are shops, restaurants, and entertainments that all cater to the wealthy minority of Gomorra. Many extraordinary establishments are situated to the west of 'The Tracks,' and the areas business live and die by their reputation. A bit of salacious gossip is all it take here to close a business permanently. Most of the social gatherings the Whateleys patron or host are actually held west of the tracks - and the larger events that are meant to be inclusive are held at the town square, instead. There are also a number of wealthier residences in the area - almost all of the Dinero 5 houses in Gomorra are housed west of the Tracks. THE TRACKS ATTRACTIONS Art Gallery Owner:The Whateley Family Operator:Paige Dunne Range of Quality:Fine - Extraordinary Description:The Art Gallery is a beautiful shop that is in wonderful condition both inside and out. Inside the shop, the floors are covered with carpeting. Upon entering the shop, Paige offers most guests a glass of wine to sip on while they gaze at the various paintings on display. Most of the paintings are actually created by Basil Whateley. His extraordinary talents are prominent in the gallery though the Whateley's do display other arts if the quality meets the high demands of the family. Range of Quality: N/A Description: Every so often some miner manages to beat all the odds, avoid the Maze Rats and evade Sweetrock's attention long enough to actually make a claim, get it to stick and end up with a considerable amount of money. Considering that most miners could barely rub two dollars together at the best of times those that do strike it rich normally turn to Roberto Dam Esq. (and don't anyone even think of forgetting the “Esq.” part) to handle their affairs. Roberto has the quick southern charm of a snakeoil salesman and those who experience of such people may quickly think he is little more than a confidence trickster. However Roberto is actually a highly competent investment broker and almost always gives good advice to his clients. His cut may seem extravagant but he does not deliberately rip off his clients, be they miners, business owners or those with established wealth. Fiercely independent he has resisted all efforts from Sweetrock to muscle in on the investment game and has handled the Whateley's financial affairs for many years, offering stability and solid returns (even deducting his cut) over “get rich quick” schemes. His offices themselves are simple but well appointed, located west of the Tracks but not so deeply within the area that a miner would feel uncomfortable walking through the elegant houses to get there. The only real extravagance Roberto leans to is his tendency to hire very pretty assistants who take the role of receptionist, secretary and general comforting presence to a nervous miner. For an uncivilized western town, the Golden Mare is something of a surprise – a diamond in the rough with elegant décor, carefully stained hardwoods and taste that would impress the most jaded of debutantes. While it might not be a match in size for the hotels of the East Coast, it is certainly a match in elegance and speaks to an extraordinarily refined taste. The Good Doctor Owner: Doctor Sylvester Aveley Operator: Doctor Sylvester Aveley Description: Little more than a pharmacy, at least in front, 'Good Doctor Aveley' is well known and well liked by the well-to-do of Gomorra. He is usually happy to offer a range of different prescriptions, the latest in medical advancements, and is always ready with a smile and a candy for routine family matters. He gets a little paler around the edges when it comes to surgery of any kind, though he is competent. He is somewhat on the squeamish side, unmarried, and the single and eligible ladies of Gomorra have little interest in keeping him a bachelor for long. He is quite intelligent, university educated, and something of a poor businessman. Both of them work tirelessly to both keep the shop in great repair and to display the fine jewels that they have crafted. Only the finest pieces of Jewelry are sold at the shop and are all handcrafted by David or his daughter. Ever diligent, David inspects each and every gem and precious metal that comes in and only the best are purchased. David is always open for commissions as they tend to be more popular than that which is already crafted. Miss Greene takes great care to make certain the identities of her courtesans aren't publicly known. Rumor abounds that the courtesans are housewives and daughters of other prominent members of Gomorra's community. The “Greene Room” requires a 300 dollar membership fee, on top of the price for individual visits. Miss Greene's clientele list is much gossiped about, but the details has never been divulged. While not the largest home in the Tracks, it is certainly one of the most unique. A large swing porch, painted black to match the window shutters, hangs off to the side on the right - helping reinforce the imagery of genteel nobility. Cut granite line the foundation and serve to create a shallow inclined walkway leading to the large, French double-door that serves as the main entrance into the house. Once inside, a large entryway for guests leads into several adjoining rooms and a winding stairway. To the right, there is a large sitting room with an oversized couch in front of the fireplace. Stuffed sofa chairs also scatter throughout the room, serving as convenient sitting when needed. To the left, there is an even larger dining room with a polished oaken dining table, fully capable of serving anywhere from four to ten guests at a moment's notice. Continuing to the back is the kitchen, stocked with every type of spice and seasoning. The servants' quarters are also located here off to the right in an adjoining section. To the left, there is a small guest bedroom - complete with bed, dresser and other sundry items. A back door leads out into a luscious, green backyard, freshly watered, and a series of peach tress dotting the right side of the house where the fruits are harvested for sauces, jams, and cobbler. Up the stairs leads to two large bedrooms - both of which are currently occupied by Ginny. Each one has a enormous walk-in closets stuffed full with every kind of clothing she can buy. To the bedroom on the left, there is a very large canopy bed stuffed full of geese feathers to aid in restful slumber. In addition, each room has at least two armoires, also stuffed full of different clothes, and a long, full-length mirror with a powdering station filled with the latest creams and balms.
