History: Erika was born and raised in rural Idaho. Her mother, Janice, was a high school English teacher, and her father, Bernie, was a chemistry professor at a local community college. She was raised in a house that valued intelligence and knowledge, and her passion for inhaling books and school did not exactly make her popular with the kids at school. She still tried to make friends constantly, but she rarely got invited to parties when she didn't drink and instead would regale the attendees with unwanted information about the Shang dynasty in China or how cool Anne of Cleves was.

When it was time for her to choose colleges, she chose her parents' alma mater, Oregon State University. Earning both her bachelor's and master's degree in history, she discovered her "people" for the first time. Theatre kids, music majors, fellow history majors, and the "nerdier" crowd made her feel less alone. Her small town had never fully accepted her, but her college friends did. She finally dated for the first time, and had a few relationships with both men and women.

Thankfully, her parents' financial situation meant she felt comfortable pursuing history instead of a more "useful" field. While they weren't rich, they had a good amount saved up to offer her a cushion. And unfortunately, she needed it. After her master's degree, she for some reason thought finding a job would be easy. It wasn't. She ended up waiting tables in her hometown for a couple of years before she managed to earn funding for her Ph.D research proposal on the treatment of women in chivalric romances and how it influenced modern gender relations in the 21st century online.

It took her longer to finish her dissertation than she'd planned, but in 2023 she finally earned the title of Dr. Landry. When Fortuna University had an opening for a history professor, she hopped on the chance. Truthfully, she'd always wanted to teach, and she took on more classes than she should have in her first year. 2024 is her second school year, and she finally feels like she's settling into the life of the town and university.
