Kill Your Darlings

At Columbia University in 1944, poet Allen Ginsberg (Radcliffe) meets Lucien Carr (DeHaan), who has passionate views on art and life. But with Carr comes David Kammerer (Hall), an obsessive older man whose infatuation with Carr leads to tragedy.

I saw this movie and absolutely fell for the plot. No, this is not original! It is a true story, that I want to expand upon and inject with fictional elements. If you don't want spoilers, don't read on. My synopsis of the intricate details of the plot are as follows:

Carr was targeted and groomed by Kammerer, who is an ex-professor that has been following Carr across the country to multiple schools. Carr's mother keeps sending him different places to get him away from Kammerer, but the man keeps finding him. At one point, they were in love. But now, trying to move on, Carr doesn't want to be with Kammerer anymore (we can discuss/formulate why). Kammerer, however, writes all of Carr's papers for him and so without the ex-professor, he would need to drop out of school.

Ginsberg arrives at the university and finds Carr fascinating, as Carr is attempting to start a new age movement but is not a writer. He needs a writer, like Ginsberg (or formerly, Kammerer) to bring his vision to life. Eventually, Ginsberg's feelings become romantic. Carr capitalizes on this so that Ginsberg will write better, more painful and meaningful poetry for their movement, never fully giving in or choosing Ginsberg over Kammerer (mostly because he can't).

One night, after breaking up with Kammerer, the man hunts down Carr, professing his love and attempts to force himself on Carr, when in self defense, he kills Kammerer and is eventually found guilty of murder because he will not admit to the past homosexual abuse and coercion.

My main interest in this story is the love triangle as well as the opportunity to play with writing our own poetry/get a little abstract. These guys were huffing nitrous oxide, smoking marijuana, and popping LSD to tap into areas of their brain to write so it would be interesting and fun to depict these sequences however we see fit.

At the end of the original story, it's not a happy ending. Kammerer is killed, Carr is in prison and Ginsberg never found love. I'd be happy to change up this reality to suit our needs - not that I'm against an unhappy ending at all.

I am not sure that I have a preference for playing any of the three men or am tied to keeping their names the same, though I love the face claims of all three actors.

If you have any interest at all in this plot line and would like to explore it, please send me a message! If you don't want to RP, but like the movie and want to discuss it further, please also send me a message!!

I'm seeking fellow writers. At least 400+ word count posts. This will not be smut focused.
