Lustful Bride

We, are the best kept secret in the known universe.

We, monitor and police Reality Deviants and threats to continued human survival.

We ensure that the average person can continue to live a happy, normal, productive life in a safe world (no matter how chaotic it may seem to the layperson).

We maintain the barriers of reality, so that you can sleep safely knowing oxygen still fills your lungs, and your soul is still your own.

We guide mankind to a better and brighter future.

We are the only true protection you have against inhuman nightmares made flesh.

We only ask that you Obey, Serve, Trust, and Comply.

We know what is best for you.

We are Big Brother.

We are the Illuminati.

We are the Deep State.

We are the Men In Black.

We are, the Technocracy.

Welcome to the Future.

The Technocratic Union has existed in some form or another for generations now. Many of the comforts and protections offered by the modern world can be directly attributed to the Union. The general consensus on reality and the human experience is thanks to our efforts, to keep deviations in stable reality from shattering our vulnerable world.

We have been known as many things throughout the centuries of human civilization. Bringers of Enlightenment, Censors, Tyrants, Liberators. Demons to some, Angels to others. We are all of these things. But the modern collective consciousness only knows us as the infamous Men In Black (which is rather sexist as we do employ women in our ranks, as well as non cis-gendered agents in all ranks of our Power Pyramid. Our recruitment methods don’t see the color of your skin or who you love or how you define your identity — we want you for your mind. That isn’t a recent development; it’s set us apart from more Traditional societies for a very long time ).

Most people think of us as the villains to their story. From the wannabe agent Mulder who thinks that they are ready for 'The Truth!', to the radio shock jock using us as a scapegoat for everything that they do not like. To even the rival mages who all disagree with what kind of utopia they want to bring about for mankind (or refuse to see the failings in their ideologies) and only being united in the idea that they want to see the Technocratic Union brought down.

Our foes are many, they are legion, and they come just as much from within our ranks as they do from outside of it. The union is faced with an impossible task, of safeguarding and shepherding humanity. That would be enough of a herculean task without the likes of Demons, Fair Folk, Vampires and Werewolves (Oh My!), all trying to disrupt or feed like parasites upon this organized and structured world we are trying to build. Then there are the Traditional Orders that paint us as the ultimate evil, even while greater threats are there and trying to open the ways to our little, isolated, blue planet.

We do not have the numbers, resources, or capabilities to respond to each and every single case of an individual human being threatened by monsters. We have to pick our battles and get the most effect for out investments. Besides, there are always people out there willing to deal with a murderous vampire or two. But not everyone can deal with an ancient god of Mass-Murder awakening and trying to take over the minds of others. Nor is it just our job to deal with those kinds of dangers.

While the Traditional orders and other reality deviants busied themselves with politics and philosophy, the Technocratic Union was ushering in an age of enlightenment. While they were busy dancing around with fairies and digging up old relics, the Union was laying down its life to stop interdimensional horrors. While the Traditional orders wagged a finger at our methods, we were helping teach the common person how to build wondrous devices, and sending them off to the moon.

They hate us and spit upon our names, only because they are not part of our club. That is their own fault, their failings are, and always will be, their own....just as our own failings cannot be blamed upon others.

The Technocracy is, in truth, just another side of the coin to the Traditional Orders. Maybe both sides are right and wrong (Don't let HR hear you say that though). That's what really keeps this horrid game of politics going, just like how the division and rivalries of the Traditions kept them from ever becoming a more powerful unified force. Both faces of the coin are fractured, and each fracture seems to want to keep breaking into smaller and smaller fragments until the coin itself is broken.

This is truest now in the once monolithic Technocratic Union, where the center has broken, or rebelled, on the outliers.

The signs were there, for a very long time. We just chose to bury our heads in the sand, or blame the outsiders, for all our problems. It kept getting worse and worse until something finally broke, and a single spark, a tiny bit of bad news, had everyone turning one their close friends.

It was chaos, entire facilities turning into bloodbaths as everyone turned on everyone else, each one proclaiming themselves as both traitor and loyalist. How can this be for the greater good, if all we do is harm others? What is the difference between a prison cell and a gilded cage? We have betrayed our oaths to humanity!

Good friends were made to kill those they had sworn to be their brothers, lovers ended their relationship with blood, and the Doctrine of Mutuality was at risk of going up in flames. Even when it was all said and done....people are still trying to put the pieces together of how it all went wrong. Where did we go wrong?

The Technocracy had to deal with the greatest of all truths in the world. That which does not change, ultimately stagnates and dies. That is why the Traditional Orders are still around, despite our best efforts. That is why the power bases of so many horrible monsters continue to thrive, while the powers and influences of the Technocracy and its puppets has waned, or even rebelled, as the fruits of our labor rot in our very hands. We had become as Caine, who upon murdering his brother could no longer till the land without making it go sour.

Now is a time of change, reinvention, rediscovery, but most importantly it is a time of rebirth. Who knows what the future will hold for the Technocratic Union? But the monolith has cracked, broken, and its edges now fall away like a block of marble. The only thing now is to wait and see, will it be a work of art for all mankind? Will it be an oppressive boot on the throat of humanity forever? Or maybe even just a pile of rubble that is fit for a king to shit on?

Maybe its better this way. Maybe those fools in the Friends of Courage had something right in their self righteous quest to clean out the corrupt heart of the Union. What happened within the Union was a fascinating mirror to what happened in the US. There we had the insane and the mad breaking down the walls of order and justice, to tear down the establishment and place a new king on the throne. A betrayal of everything their homeland stood for and promised.

But within the Technocracy it galvanized the opposite reaction. Those who were in charge had orchestrated the insurrection as one of the latest in a long line of plans to bring about a more organized world....by making people believe in baby eating Satanists that had threatened their orange god, and all had to come to worship at the church of Q.

That was the final crack which broke the monolith. Those at the top of the pyramid, were wrong. They needed to be pulled down off their thrones and a true change for the better was needed. The fact that their oh so glorious plan to help bring about a controlled order for humanity failed without even the intervention of any Magic users or supernatural elements was just the final nail in the coffin for the All Seeing Eye. They had to be dealt with, and it was increasingly hard for some to justify siding with their old masters. Some even openly declared that some of those at the top of the pillar must have been Nephandi, and were working against the oaths all along.

Some, like the Friends of Courage had planned things like this in secret, other groups like the NWO or the $yndicate had kept plans in place for dealing with the upper echelons of the Technocracy, only as a hypothetical plan. While for others it was just an outlet for years of anger and frustration at wondering if we were really the villains all along.

This was the last straw, these actions can't be for the Greater Good. So it was time to finally do something for the betterment of all mankind.

The rebels came from many different factions within the Technocracy, some were long time rivals, or might have killed one another in other circumstances. But right now they were all united in one purpose, to take back mankind's destiny from power mad tyrants.

Just as America had its soul threatened, the Technocracy regained it own soul. A lot of terrible things happened, a lot of innocents were caught in the crossfire, and many valuable and cherished items were lost or destroyed. But it is over. Now is the time to lick our wounds, wipe the tears from our eyes, bury the dead and start rebuilding.

We are truly blessed that our logistics departments were unharmed in all the madness. Tier Zero(0), with all the UnEnlightened Personnel was mostly unaffected by everything that happened. Tier 1 got off with a few bruises, loses of continuity and missing personnel, but for the most part the damage was contained to all the upper echelons of the command pyramid. A lot of people are going to find themselves with promotions, and a lot of college graduates will be getting a special invitation in the mail. There are even rumors that previously rejected candidates will be reconsidered and may even be approved in order to fill in the gaps in our lines until we can return to normalcy.

We have to maintain a strong face against the predatory gazes of our enemies. If the Camarilla found out we were weak, they might try to increase their influence on mortal governments. If the Werewolves learned we couldn't bring the hammer down on them, they might resort to acts of ecoterrorism that could kill thousands. If the Traditional Orders learn of just how weak we are....well...they probably already know, if they hadn't taken part in fanning the flames.

Its only a matter of time before the games of politics start up again, and the Union's unity fractures with infighting and multiple agendas...but for now it feels nice to truly know for a fact that we made the world better.

Our world moves onward, and so does the Technocracy.

Welcome to the Future. Can you save it?

Yeah I'm looking to play as one of the big bad magical MIBs8-) I know they are supposed to be the bad guys, but I have been reading Technocracy Reloaded and I like the idea of them being the other side of the Traditional Orders and maybe not nearly as evil as their enemies say they are. Plus...they make those suits look good :)

The nuance added to them, and some of the justifications for why they are the way they are is fascinating to me and I'd like to see things from their perspective after having already played from the other side of the fence....well sort of.

I've played Mage the Awakening before (As an Obrimos of the Atlantean Orders) so I have some familiarity with the way things work, but a trial or 'tutorial' period would probably do me some good to help me understand everything once more. Some patience on your part as a GM would be very appreciated. We could also go rules lite for this and focus more on the story with occasional dicerolls and skill checks to help keep things interesting.

I'm looking to play as a newly recruited member of the Technocratic Union, possibly leaning towards the NWO...or maybe the $yndicate...I still haven't fully decided. But she is definitely among those that did not previously meet the recruitment standards of the TU. Now with the lower standards she is expected to do the same job as those higher up (it will be no real change stats wise, just narratively some will point out that she's not as good as others of her same power level).

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide

So if this interests you, please feel free to PM me and we can discuss things further and see how to make this work. I'm not married to the above concept so we can drop the storyline of a weakened Technocracy finding its soul and keep them as they are in the standard Mage/TR books. But I would like an at least slightly nicer version of the Union rather than the evil empire most think of.

Some Inspiration that might help you get the vibe I'm going for.
