Rebirth is an original freeform superhero/survival horror game centring around a group of strangers who, among many others, unintentionally ingest an unknown element after a meteor crash lands in the centre of their home city, Ravenwood. The initial impact will cause panic and devastation but that will pale in comparison to the impact of the strange powers many of the city's inhabitants start to display. At the game start the characters will all be completely ordinary people. The game will begin at a low power level but it will increase over time. The game will feature a military lockdown around the city forcing those who gain powers to remain in the city. This means the city itself will be plunged into chaos and the characters will have a challenge to learn how their powers work and to simply survive as chaos reigns. This initial struggle to survive the chaos will be the main survival horror element. This game will care about character's needs to eat, drink and sleep as well as what they are carrying. This will be a smaller, story-focused group game for a few players (4-5, maybe 6). It will not be first come first served. I will have a recruitment period and then select CS's based on the characters I think will fit the game best.

This is currently an interest check - if interested please post in this thread. Feel free to ask questions.

Setting

Ravenwood is a city in Northern Maine. It is one of the larger cities in the state with an extremely built up central district sporting towering skyscrapers and a bustling city life. Although the city itself is large it has an extended suburban area that reaches into the nearby woodlands. Most of the surrounding countryside is heavily wooded with several large rivers nearby. In-game the city will be cordoned off by a barricade patrolled by the army who are on strict no-questions shoot on sight orders. The world's response to superhumans will play out in the background over time. There will be nobody outside of this city with superpowers.

Ravenwood has a population of around 500,00 people. Thousands of these people will be killed by the initial impact of the meteor and many more in the ensuing chaos. The central distract is Rooksborough, with a large park being the point the meteor will impact. The other districts are The Dusks a more run-down area with a higher crime rate, Fairlight a small neighbourhood with by far the highest average house price located in a particularly hilly area with excellent views, Kilnsborough a largely industrial district and the suburbs of Guildmoor.

Superpowers

In this setting powers are gained by ingesting the element Renastine. Renastine was brought to earth by Meteor X-444B. This element is crystalline at normal temperatures and it is near-impossible to melt. It can be shattered with moderate effort such as throwing it on the ground hard. If shattered it will almost immediately disintegrate, breaking down into miniscule particles until it forms a gas lighter than air. If ingested this gas causes one of three effects. Rebirth, granting superpowers but maintaining physical and mental state aside from the impacts of the powers. Unbirth, granting superpowers but also causing severe damage to the body and mind creating a powerful but unstable and disfigured being. Death, in some who are allergic to the element.

Superpowers are heavily tied to the mind and while they can be almost anything they tend to be connected to personal aspirations or fears, strongly held beliefs or areas of expertise. They can, at times, also be directly connected to any experiences that occurred at the same time Renastine was inhaled. It is extremely hard to replicate or induce powers in any consistent manner. Powers appear to have no clear, consistent limits but they certainly consistently increase over time. Much of this information about superpowers will be unknown at the game start.

Rules

1. Do not cause or participate in drama. Bring interpersonal issues to me.
2. Have a reasonable standard of English. Third-person past-tense is required. Some mistakes are of course allowed.
3. Do not godmode (This includes NPC's). Do not write a mary-sue.
4. For character creation please understand this is a small game and not first come first served. If I don't select you it's simply for the sake of taking the best characters for the story.
5. Inform me if you will not be able to post for a week. If you do not post for two weeks and do not contact me you will be removed from the game and another writer will be recruited.
6. Please be sure that you will be able to consistently stick to a once per week post rate if you join this game.
7. Before sending it please read the character creation segment in full.
8. Please be aware this game will feature graphic and upsetting content at times and it will not be avoidable. This will include but is not limited to gore, violence, light-moderate body horror, wound treatment, survivalism, threats, deaths, drug/alcohol use/abuse, sexual violence and more.
9. Please avoid controversial topics in the game's OOC. These include politics and religion.

Character Creation

Segment will be created if interest check is passed.

F.A.Q

What will the power level be? It will begin extremely low. Think one low-tier power e.g. projecting flames from the hand, increased healing speed, increased strength. The power level will increase fluidly over the course of the game.

How dark will the game get? There will be consistent graphic violence, disturbing imagery and powers with elements of body horror. Players will need to be comfortable with a moderate-high level of violence. All violence will be due to the dangerous, chaotic situations and the powers and I will not be looking to make it needlessly gratuitous or constant however it will occur and it will be bloody.

How smutty will the game be? Not very, if at all. The game will have a side thread for smut scenes between player characters if any relationships / hookups develop.

What will the expected post rate be? A bare minimum of once per week in the main thread. Ideally faster.

Will there be sandbox threads? Yes but only when there are moments of downtime in the main story so that players can have their characters socialize at a slower pace.

I am interested in this game. :)    (plants a flag)  Looking forward to reading about Character Creation.

In writing, a flaw is not the interesting part of a character.  What is interesting is how a person overcomes a flaw.  I want to read how a person overcomes a flaw, not how the flaw overcomes the person.

Thank you! Glad to have the interest. I'll elaborate on that if there's enough interest. Should be fairly simple as the powers will be so basic at the start.
