Out of Character Thread

This is a free form group game that revolves around the twenty year reunion of the John Adams Senior High School Class of 2000.

What's happened in the twenty years since graduation?  Curious to see how your enemy or crush turned out?  Ready to finally say what's been on your mind for so long?  Prepared to give into any pacts made all those years ago?

Each person will be allowed to create two characters at the start of the story.  They may be allowed an additional one or two, depending on size of the interest in this story and general activity in the group.  There is no story line or angle for this, nor any large events outside of the reunion itself.  The people interested are responsible for generating their own story lines and personal plots leading up to and after the reunion.

For those interested, a history thread will be made available for those wishing to have their characters live out and reenact moments from their past.

Both teachers/staff members and students will be made available for people to write.  However, sexual contact between students and teachers is not allowed.  This is for the general comfort of anyone involved in the story.

With Current IC Dates, all former students must be 38 years, give or take a year.  Exceptions may be made, but are unlikely unless I'm utterly convinced to allow it.

Who is the GM?
Me, GnothiSeauton.  Open to allowing others to take on the mantle of Co-GM.

What's the story?
There is only an overall story, and that is the difference twenty years makes (or doesn't make) after graduating high school. Characters will be, largely, interacting with people they haven't seen in twenty years.

Are there limitations on characters?
Characters are limited to two per writer, but subject to change.  Former student characters must be around 38, give or take a year.  Writers are allowed to create teacher/staff members.

Where will this be placed on the site?
Light in all likelihood.

Can sexual activity/smut be allowed?
Yes.  You'll be asked to tag your posts accordingly with the header. 

Can we write out our character's time in high school?
Yes, you can.  There will be a history thread dedicated for such scenes.  However, I will not allow sexual activity to be written out involving then-under 18 students and teachers.

How successful can characters be?
Totally up to you, however, I'll police things if it gets out of control.

Was there a ten year reunion?
The ten year reunion was cancelled, and never rescheduled.

Character Creation

• All characters must be within a year of 38 years old, as previously stated above thread.
• Teacher characters will be permitted, granted that you already have a student character.  This group is intended to be focused on the students, after all.
• A maximum of two characters are allowed per writer.
• Face Claims are strongly encouraged.  No drawn art will be allowed for face claims.  This is intended to be a realistic group.

School Information

John Adams Senior High School

• This is to serve as a little bit of a primer on the School's culture and mood to help get people going and familiarized with the created setting.
• John Adams Senior High School was built originally in the early 70's.
• There are a number of schools in the area, but the main rival for JASH is William Penn Senior High School in neighboring Willowbrooke.  They've been at each other's throats for years in athletics and academic challenges.  It's a rivalry that runs deep in some families that are very school spirited.
• The school newspaper is the John Adams Post.  Run by the student organized Media Club (which also runs the morning announcements), this edited and administration influenced newsletter is of little note.  There's a few little articles and columns here and there about school spirit, history, and the like, but it's mainly used for announcements for other student organizations and messages from faculty.
• The school colors are blue, black, and white.  It's mascot is a wolf, named Willy Wolf.
• There are way too many student organizations and clubs to name.  If you can think of it, it probably exists in some form.
• Every year there's the Senior Sleep Over, a school sponsored event where senior students spend the night in the school's gymnasium, the Wolf's Den.  It's chaperoned, but is often viewed as a farewell party for the senior class.
• Seniors are also allowed special privileges.  With parent permission, and credits permitting, they can leave school early in the day for jobs or study hall.  For lunch, Seniors are allowed to eat in the main cafeteria, or in the Senior Lounge, an old, re-purposed classroom that has been turned into a private dining space.  Seniors are also allowed better parking choices in the student lots.
• Also in terms of school lunches, students are permitted to eat in the main cafeteria, or on the school patio just outside the cafeteria.  Students can not leave the premises for lunch.
• But privileges can be taken away.  Tardiness, unexcused absences, discipline actions, etc. can all pile up, and seniors can lose their privileges as a result. 
• Senior Liaisons are the go-betweens between students, student organizations, etc., and administration.  They're there to listen to your thoughts, comments, concerns, and pass them along to administration.  They're often the senior advocates and voices in administration meetings.
• There are various cliques and social groups in the school's society, but the lines are often blurred, and mingling in between the groups is not uncommon.  They include, but are not limited to Nerds, Jocks, Honors, Preps, Car Nuts, Stoners, Artists, etc.

Community Information

The Local Community

West Harper

 

Located in the suburbs of Philadelphia, West Harper is an old community, with it's roots stretching as far back as the eighteenth century.  It has a long and rich history, from the revolutionary war, to modern times and the war effort during World War 2.  The heart of the historic town is Main Street, the main thoroughfare that is lined with a variety of small businesses and storefronts that cater to just about any need.  You'll find Helene's, a cozy little cafe done in Parisian style.  Guthrie's Used Books always seems to have a neat little find on it's shelves.  Gizmo's Gadgets is a small little electronic's store that will fix just about anything.  And then there's always the Helen Hart Historical House, a museum on Main Street dedicated to the history of the town.  Look close enough, and you'll see a cannon ball still lodged in the brick facade of the building from the Revolutionary War.

There are also other stores and businesses that lay outside of main street.  Steeple Chase Mall is one of the premiere outlet malls in the area, with a ten screen movie theater and a variety of eateries to choose from.  There's always Walmart if you need something at any time of the night.

Residences

Colonial Heights
The Fancy Neighborhood

   

Colonial Heights is the premier community within West Harper.  It's known for it's big and old houses, well-manicured lawns, and tree-lined streets.  It's picturesque, and the HOA intends on keeping it that way.  Living in Colonial Heights is a status symbol in the local view of things, something to be desired and sought after for those who plan on living in West Harper for their lives.

Brittany Woods and Ridgeline
The Well-to-Do Middle of the Pack Neighborhoods

 

There are a few small neighborhoods that could be considered middle class, but the two major neighborhoods are Brittany Woods and Ridgeline.  These two communities have homes that range from modest and quaint, to roomy and comfortable.  They're more relaxed than Colonial Heights, and have no shame.

Harperville is one of the older communities, and it sure shows it.  The houses here are a little more affordable, but definitely need some tender love and care.  They're fixer-upers to be sure, but some people have made nice little homes for themselves here in the old neighborhood.  And then there's Evergreen Park, a modest and relaxed mobile home community.  You'll find trailers, RVs, and the like parked here.  It's a little bit of a tough neighborhood, but close knit.

The Bailey
Something for Everyone

 

The Bailey is the Swiss-Army knife of residences.  This apartment and townhome complex on the west side of town offers an assortment of housing options for anyone in need of something different.  There are small units for the single individual, and family units available.  Amenities include access to the community pool, and that's just about it.

Points of Interest

West Lake

West Lake is a little recreational park on the western edge of West Harper.  During the summer it becomes the place to be, as people in the community come to the lake to go swimming and soak up the sun on the little strip of sand and beach.  A small boating dock allows for small, motor-less craft to be launched, and hiking trails traverse the rim of the lake.

Thanks GMC.  I'm glad you're interested, and would love to have you.

Creating past links isn't mandatory, but it does go a long way in helping people get involved.  At the very least, in terms of connections, people might know of people if not knowing them personally.  Like, knowing a face and name, but not anything beyond that.

But with that said, it's been twenty years, and I figured it'd be a decent size graduating class, so it's possible people would be strangers to others.

I'm not going to force connections on people.  That's up to everyone and their own personal choices.
