Something a little different for me: I've been playing around with a story that's set, or at least starts, with a hotshot scientist observing an astronaut training mission in the desert. They're simulating a months-long space flight, a small group of astronauts living in a bubble, observed round-the-clock by a science team. MC is ambitious, ex-military, with the oldest secret in the world. YC is the scientist whose voice he hears in his ear all day, whose face on the monitors overhead he knows better than his own.
That's... all I've got. Make YC anyone you want. Maybe they fight the whole time they're working apart-together and fall on each other the moment the experiment ends. Maybe they spend half the mission talking dirty with YC deleting the log every night so it doesn't get recorded, transcribed. Maybe they don't meet again until the mission they've been simulating becomes a reality and the stakes are a little higher.
