Hello ! Super-interested here. Already started to write a character. I am almost done but just need confirmation concerning the backround : can my character be linked to Instructor Bragi or Commander Delgado by being picked up by either of them from the Underworld for her abilities ? I can of course invent a random high-ranking member of the Valkyrie Unit but find this to be more interesting.

Thank you !

Your story concerns me. You should PM the desired concept to me and see if I will approve it because The Underworld piece is sounding very farfetched.

For sure! She doesn't believe that all humans are like that, but it has definitely has some lasting effects on her. I'm looking forward to seeing them all interact :D

So, no shared rooms but all of our recruits will share a common space? Or do you mean it will be two characters to a common space with separate rooms? I think I've confused myself x'D

Also I think my girl is good to go now. May still add some small details here and there but otherwise, she's pretty finished. Any feedback or edits I need to make, just let me know!

I was planning for a pod. A pod contains two separate rooms and a common area which is a kitchen and bathroom. They are all in a barracks. I will make the barracks co-ed with 1st floor being female recruits and the 2nd floor male recruits (so they have to carry their own bags upstairs). Just like in old school barracks, there isn't an elevator because everyone is supposed to be fit (these style barracks exist irl, but worse, several floors).

Ahhhhhhhh, I understand now! Thanks for the clarification, haha. I'm a derp.

I am interested. I will begin working on a character today.

I posted some things on the front page. You will see a list of approved characters. If your character is not in that list, it means you haven't finished your CS. You will also find under links the Character Thread and OOC. Go ahead and move over your approved CSes and feel free to plot interactions with the recruits.

Here's Wyatt, the rich, moody giraffe. Let me know if anything needs to be changed for clarity or timeline sake - always happy to do so.
I might make small grammatical tweaks to her, but otherwise she's done for now. Her backstory will get more detailed as the story progresses. ;3

Full Name: Wyatt Kari Finnbogi
Nickname(s): Bogi, Locomotion
Alias: None Yet.
Age: 22.
D.O.B.: July 8, 3048. Cancer.
Gender: Female.
Race: Human.
Sexuality: Bisexual.
Relationship Status: Single, for now.
Height: 5"10.
Weight: 141 lbs.
Hair Color: Honey Blonde.
Eye Color: Brown.
Occupation: New Recruit.

General Description:
Wyatt is just a couple inches shy of six feet tall, and lean with long, smooth legs like a ballerina or a giraffe. Her nose, jawline, shoulders and hips are full of sharp angles. Her hair is long and naturally wavy, and is her second most noticeable feature after her dark, scarred eyebrows. Wyatt is beautiful, which is no surprise, considering her familial wealth built her attractiveness from a young age. If it wasn't for her constantly bitchy, unimpressed expression she'd probably have better luck in the romance department.

Her style is usually a mix of white, black and moody colors - oranges, maroons, royal blue and soft pink. Her favorite accessory is a well structured blazer. Despite having the money to afford an endless supply of piercings or tattoos, her body is relatively unmarked, due to her mother's taste. Each ear is only pieced once, and generally hold something gold, glittery and expensive, even on the most daring missions. Wyatt does have a trail of dark brown freckles along her spine, though few have gotten a chance to see them up close.

Personality:
Wyatt is a temperamental, moody young woman. She has a short fuse, and many triggers. Even before... well, she doesn't like to talk about what happened, or what specific trauma caused her anger management issues in the first place. Wyatt was never great with words. A simple 'yep' or 'nope' suits her just fine. Instead of talking, she prefers to act on her feelings. And she can go from calm, collected and reading a fantasy novel to breaking someone else's nose with her fist real quick. Therapy has helped, a lot. If someone else insults her now, Wyatt will at least give them a chance to apologize before starting a fist fight. Unfortunately, doors and other public property can't express regret and her father has paid for many new renovations aboard the fleet as a result.

Due to both her temper, and the many rumors about her family and her outbursts, she spends quite a bit of time alone and is generally slow to trust others. She expects people will like her because of her money, and not much else, despite the fact that she doesn't care much for wealth, prejudice or gossip. If Wyatt does eventually open up to others, she becomes extremely loyal and generous to them, almost to a fault. Hidden beneath all that emotional 'loco' is actually a very kind and humble person, who will definitely punch out anyone who says even the tinniest smack about her friends, regardless of their rank on Midgard.

Likes: fighting, punching stuff, breaking stuff, green tea, reading fiction books, therapy (admittedly).
Dislikes: rumors, insults, backing down from a challenge, her middle name, anything rotten or slimy.

Backstory:
Even before The Great Exodus, the Finnbogi family was wealthy. Not because they were particularly smart, or particularly adventurous, but because they were morally grey opportunists who invested in energy development companies when energy was less understood than it is now. Eventually they branched out, started their own companies, with thousands of employees who did the grunt work for them. They made business partners and lawyers their friends. They made a workable empire for the lower-middle class. So when Earth went to shit, and humanity needed to pay to aboard the Midgard, Brant and Asta Finnbogi, and their 2 year old daughter Wyatt, had no problem securing expensive, lavish spots for themselves. The only had a problem with distributing their wealth equally among their less fortunate friends, co-workers and other extended family members. They could have paid for others to board and survive, but instead they politely refused. Money is earned, not shared, or so goes the Finnbogi model.

While aboard the Midgard, the Finnbogi's paid little attention to the lower and working class around them, and instead focused their pursuits on new, investment opportunities. The funny thing about energy is that it still exists, even in space. Their financial status wasn't depleted by the destruction of Earth, but their reputation was, at least within the civilian population. Neither Brant nor Astra hid their wealth, so it was very obvious that they had insured their own survival at the cost of thousands of others. They dressed their daughter up, too. Nice dresses, jewellery, pleasantries. As she aged, she blossomed as they expected. Rich people were almost always pretty too, after all. In her middle to late teens, Wyatt became a very promising socialite, charming most of her parent's posh business partners. In her late teens, she decided to go into politics and activism, speaking for those who could not speak for themselves but in a far more considerate fashion than her parents. She wanted to make up for their past decisions, for the guilt she always felt for their leaving so many souls behind to die with their first planet. Simply having two, healthy and married parents aboard the Midgard was a luxury in itself and she had enough already. Maybe she could finally do some good, with her family fortune, for once.

Luck had other ideas when Wyatt turned 20 years old. Something happened, a trauma that Wyatt doesn't like to talk about. But it broke her, splintered her mind and her emotions. It left her so... angry. Instead of becoming withdrawn or depressed or scared, Wyatt was suddenly full of unbridled rage. People had said rumors about her and her parents and the Finnbogi name for decades. They were the second to feel her wrath, after the many doors, tables and expensive kitchen wear in her familial quarters. To everyone else, Wyatt had snapped. To Wyatt, fighting with her fists was the only thing that made sense. And eventually, she got rather good at it. Most of her competitors were drunk fools, who simply said the wrong thing. But a few times they were higher ranking officers on the Midgard, and although her father's wallet could pay for all of her damage to conveniently disappear, her parents worried. People, important people, said their prized daughter was 'loco'. Surely money could fix her, too.

They sent her to many expensive therapists, many of whom Wyatt also punched. Until a little over year ago. Until a certain, eccentric Alf named Dr. Eydis. His methods were based in behavioral cognition, but a bit strange and fantastical. Instead of describing her feelings, he asked Wyatt to describe numbers and colors and whimsical stories, every week for over a year. Brant and Asta paid him a small fortune. But Wyatt got better. Not fixed, but functioning. Able to control her aggressive outbursts before they controlled her, at least some of the time. But it was clear Wyatt was no longer primed for politics. She needed something far more physical. And there was nothing wrong with a little aggression as long as it was put to good use for the Midgard. Dr. Eydis recommended she try out for the Valkyrie unit. Between more weekly therapy sessions, Wyatt succeeded through basic Valkyrie training. She's not the most professional or dexterous cadet, and her father most certainly paid for her spot in new class of recruits over more qualified candidates, but she's confident and willing to take on any challenge. Including The Awakening.

Admittedly, Wyatt knows she is a case study. A test to see if Dr. Eydis' behavioral therapy techniques live up to the hype aboard the fleet. But anything is better than being labeled 'loco', right?

Skills:

  • Fist Fighting - Wyatt has trouble managing all of her emotions, but her anger management is by far the worst. When she gets upset, she has a tendency to punch her surroundings, or on rarer occasions, other people. Over time, her punches have gotten rather strong and calculated, similar to a boxer. However, they have also earned her weekly therapy and the cruel nickname, 'Locomotion'.
  • Detail Orientated -  Wyatt has a natural affinity for detail. This may stem from growing up wealthy and always having nice things. She pays attention to patterns, differences and errors, most of which she keeps to herself. During decision making tasks, the details she collects allow her to easily predict consequences and view 'the bigger picture'.
  • Bargaining - Wyatt is a member of the Finnbogi family. She knows there is nothing in the galaxy that money cannot buy, including the right to live. Given her financial status, and her less-than-stellar reputation, she has developed a knack for haggling and persuading others in order to get whatever she desires - even if other people don't like or necessarily trust her.
  • Avid Reader -  Wyatt uses reading as a means to escape reality and her ever-changing emotions. Reading a book, especially one that is either high fantasy or about the history of Earth before The Great Exodus, is perhaps one of the few times Wyatt actually feels calm. Though she prefers fantasy, or at least fictional stories, Wyatt will read anything she can get her hands on, with a rare enthusiasm. She will become upset, however, if someone interrupts her reading without an important or emergent task.
  • Vivid Imagination - Wyatt is able to create and imagine very complicated scenarios in her mind. She is not afraid to ponder any subject, and visualize it to the extremes. Because of this, she is very open-minded, but also very susceptible to daydreaming. Her vivid imagination is also why Dr. Eydis' therapy treatments have been so successful to date, especially his use of 'color theory'.

I tried to give the character a little more flavor and tried to find smaller pictures. Could you send a PM with some ideas for improvement if this isn't good enough?

Full Name: Trygve Halvar Eriksen
Nickname(s): Trig (his first name is pronounce Trig ve)
Alias:
Age: 21
D.O.B.:  October 17, 3049
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Sexuality: Hetrosexual
Relationship Status:
Height: 6’ 1”
Weight: 195 lbs
Hair Color: Brown hair and beard
Eye Color:  Blue
Occupation: New Recruit

General Description: Trygve is 6’ 1” tall and 195 pounds with blue eyes, brown hair and a beard. He has an athletic build that is reminiscent of an old earth football linebacker. He has a scar on his right shoulder from an operation to repair a shoulder injury.

Personality: Trygve, fortunately or unfortunately depending on your viewpoint, has a generally positive view of humanity and believes the best in people. This can make him seem naïve and somewhat easy to con. Trygve is frequently the butt of practical jokes because he doesn’t see them coming. He often is swindled and never even realizes it. He enjoys athletic activities like team sports. He performs well in those endeavors but is not a “star” so he tries even harder than most. Trygve  also has quite a sense of humor and enjoys telling jokes and puns. He is a fan of myths, legends, and military history. He has a good memory so he recalls almost everything he learned in the past. Trygve enjoys carousing and when he has had a few too many drinks will break into bawdy military songs. He lives by a personal code of honor (Never take advantage of another person; be fair and respectful, and always help a lady in distress).

Likes: Sports, Singing, Dancing, Reading about Myths, Legends, and Military History
Dislikes: Rude and Uncaring people, Arrogant people with a Superior Attitude, and 'Whiney' people

Backstory: Trygve’s father was a Military Policeman at the Cape Canaveral Air Force station. His father, Erik was originally from Minnesota and of Norwegian decent. Trygve’s father, Erik, participated in the defense of the Midgard. As a reward, for his hard work protecting the facility from the protestors, Erik and his family were allowed on the Midgard. Trygve’s family consists of Erik, his father; Inga, his mother; and an older sister, Britt, who is 5 years older than Trygve. Growing up, Trygve was enamored with the stories his father told about his days in the military.

Throughout his school career, Trygve was noted for his intelligence, excellent memory, and recall of information. He expanded his reading of legends to include King Arthur, Beowulf, and Ring of the Nibelungen (the story of Siegfried). Trygve is also fairly athletic. He found that while in school, the classwork usually came pretty easily for Trygve but in sports, he was never the star. He was capable and an asset to the team but never stellar. So, as a result, he tended to always push himself harder than others when it came to physical and athletic tasks. He had more than his share of bumps and bruises from his level of exertion.

Because of his father’s military background and his interest in mythology and other legends, Trygve dreamed of earning his place as a Valkyrie recruit. To prepare himself to become a member of the Valkyrie’s, he avidly read military history and tactics. Trygve understood that a military unit could be out numbered yet still succeed because of the superior tactics they employed. He hoped his studies and physical abilities would lead to him passing the test. When he reached 18 years of age and was preparing for the Valkyrie recruit training his luck failed him.

In his final game of his final season, Trygve wanted to make a lasting impression. He was diving to catch a ball that, if he made it would win the game for them. Trygve’s, dove in full extention to catch the ball, which he did, but he landed awkwardly on his right side. As he impacted the ground he heard a snapping sound like a rubber band tearing. When he got up, Trygve couldn’t move his right arm. After seeing a doctor it was determined that he had severely injured the rotator cuff in his right shoulder. In fact, the doctor said it was one of the worst tears he had ever seen. So, Trygve needed to have surgery to repair the injury. Then there was also a lengthy recovery period along with a lot of physical therapy to rehabilitate the injured shoulder. Because Valkyrie recruits need to be in top physical condition, Trygve wasn’t in a position to take the test until he was 21 years old. To his great relief, Trygve passed the test!

Skills:
  • Athletic (able to participate adequately in most sports)
  • Good singer
  • Story teller (vividly retells stories he has read or videos he has seen)
  • Dancer
  • Excellent memory and recall of information he has learned very well.

Character Relations: This doesn’t have to be filled out immediately. It can be filled out as the characters go through the class.

This CS is very lackluster compared to what your peers have presented. It just so general that there is no feeling or idk. It is just missing some reality I guess. You also really need to do something about the size of those pics. They're huge.

If you want or think characters will actually seek the characters services. If you don't see yourself playing the character as a minor second character, and think he will mostly just benefit your character or be mostly mentioned with your character, then no. You can just play him without a CS.

Sounds good! I might hold off on his CS until we get further into the game then. If a storyline arises where anyone else wants/requires a therapist, I'm happy to develop him more.  :D

This is the last call for interest. If you are interested, or drafting a CS, then I need to know ASAP because I will be working on the IC this weekend. As soon as the IC goes up, I am no longer accepting players until Chapter Two or special circumstances.

I modified my character sheet Tuesday night. If it still doesn’t meet the standards, I will wish you all good luck in the game.

RevAtArms

For your last-minute consideration, candidate for foil-hood, a terrible nerd (Revised: X-Ray Asgleif)

Full Name: Asgleif Sherman Lodhur
Nickname(s): Gleif
Alias:
Age: 20
D.O.B.: 6/11/3049
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Relationship Status: Single.
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 165 lbs
Hair Color: Light brown, typically worn styled boring.
Eye Color: Blue.
Occupation: New Recruit

General Description: Asgleif has the bone structure of a proper middle-states Scandi with fine features that bleed into harshness. He has an endurance runner’s body, a testament to his leisure time preferences. He wears his hair short; it’s on the lighter side of brown. He has a few tattoos, all boring old words in boring script. The most overt one is along his left forearm: nihil humanum mihi alienum. (Nothing human is alien to me).

Personality: At first blush, Asgleif can come off as reserved. At second blush, Asgleif is detached, often seemingly pre-occupied with some monumental thought or task. There is some truth to this (he is, by nature, a little oblivious), but a lot of his outward expression is affected. He speaks laconicly and with a slight drawl -- something he picked up from his father. Under stress, he loses the affectation and speaks with terse precision. Asgleif is terrifically bright -- his defining trait. Learning has always been easy for him, and he lacks understanding (literal lack of comprehension, he isn't intentionally cruel) for those who must put forward more effort. At rest, he can be a little flighty in his attentiveness. Under stress, he displays a remarkable focus – his capacity for single-mindedness has become a survival trait.

Likes: poetry, edged and pointy things, running, knowing things, spicy food, bitter flavors.
Dislikes: Sweet flavors, cake, monotony, being restrained, snakes.

Backstory:The child of a pair of agricultural scientists, Asgleif's family were an obvious addition to the Midgard colony effort. His father, a doctoral type from the middle states, focused his research on high-yield crop development in adverse environments (See: most places, at the time). His mother was an engineer specializing in hydroponics -- highly valuable on a depleted Earth, and an absolute necessity for a self-sufficient colonization effort. By his own account, his parents were loving (if frequently absent) and greatly informed his own predilections. A high-average student, Asgleif was never really pushed to excel and lacked the personal ambition to really throw himself into his studies. Still, talent and ability count for a lot and he'd show the occasional spark of brilliance when a given topic struck his interest. On the physical side, he adored running and field-sports -- even to the present day, it takes exceptional circumstances to keep him from his daily run, which often borders on the masochistic end of 'endurance training'. It clears his mind and simplifies his world-view. There is a bliss in exhaustion and dopamine.

Asgleif was fifteen when his parents were killed in what the record will show was an "industrial accident." (It wasn’t.) His life went from consistency and comparative privilege to a closed-casket funeral and the benign neglect of the State rather suddenly; the effect this had on a young Asgleif Lodhur was subtle and insidious. By most accounts, he went from being 'in shock, clinging to normalcy' to 'handling things so well, look at him chugging along!' Already perhaps a little too gifted at compartmentalization and repression, Asgleif coped in the manners he had found successful in the past. He avoided with intent. Lacking direction, Asgleif has spent the last several years of his life throwing himself into myriad hobbies and whimsical interests. Major highlights of this 5-year period include: attempts to understand what made his father's specific formulation of wheat seed so valuable and an enthusiastic fascination with century-old combatives. If his interest could find purchase, he lost himself.

In a moment of clarity, Asgleif put in for the Valkyrie unit. In service, perhaps he might find a real, impossibly precious purpose. Perhaps, also, he might break in the attempt. Perhaps that is the point. In his heart-of-hearts, Asgleif Lodhur is desperate to shed his juvenile nihilism and detachment.

Skills:
  • Font of Useless Knowledge: Free to indulge, Asgleif has studied broadly and without rhyme -- as a result, he's frequently ready with a quote or a line of poetry. The depths of his knowledge are esoteric, existential, and often inane.
  • Combatives – Asgleif’s predilection towards sharp and pointy things (and a hefty historical interest) have given him a working of knowledge of certain venerable fighting techniques. While far from a martial artist, he’s not completely defenseless.
  • Resilience - While perhaps not a healthy trait, Asgleif's peculiarity of character give him a remarkable ability to endure physical and mental stressors.

Character Relations: N/A

Happy to adjust!

Growing up, Trygve was enamored with the stories about Odin, Freya, Thor, Sif, Balder, Heimdal, and of course Loki.

Throughout his school career, Trygve was noted for his intelligence, excellent memory, and recall of information. He expanded his reading of the legends from the Norse pantheon to include King Arthur, Beowulf, and Ring of the Nibelungen.

Because of his father’s military background and his interest in Norse Mythology and other legends, Trygve dreamed of earning his place as a Valkyrie recruit.

The only thing I want you to remove from this CS is all references to "Norse mythology." This world is built around the Norse mythology theme. To have books about it, just doesn't make sense because even if there were books, they would be just history books and not "mythological." The Norse mythology gods and goddesses do not exist in this world as gods and goddesses, they are actual people.

Race: Human
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Relationship Status: Single.
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 150 lbs
Hair Color: Light brown, typically worn styled boring.
Eye Color: Blue.
Occupation: New Recruit

General Description: Asgleif has the bone structure of a proper middle-states Scandi with fine features that have been turned harsh by his leisure activities and some recent malnourishment. He might have a shot at handsome if he put on a little weight and smiled more often. What he does have is bones wrapped in lean muscle and a pair of piercing blue eyes. He wears his hair short. It's a lighter shade of brown. He has a few tattoos, all boring words in boring script. The most overt one is along his left forearm: nihil humanum mihi alienum. (Nothing human is alien to me).

Personality: At first blush, Asgleif can come off as reserved. At second blush, Asgleif is detached, often seem pre-occupied with some monumental thought or task. There is some truth to this (he is, by nature, a little oblivious), but a lot of his outward expression is affected. He speaks laconicly and with a slight drawl -- something he picked up from his father. When he's irritated or excited, that falls away -- he can, given the correct stimulus, lecture with precision. Asgleif is terrifically bright -- his defining trait. Learning has always been easy for him, and he still hasn't got a lot of understanding (literal lack of comprehension, he isn't intentionally cruel) for those who must put forward more effort. This informs much of who he has been. While he aspires to broadness of person (in an intellectual sense), he does have the capacity for a certain single-minded focus. Typically this manifests when he is fascinated by a thing (which he has abused frequently at various stages of his life), but can present in the face of a significant challenged.

Likes: poetry, edged and pointy things, running, knowing things, spicy food, bitter flavors.
Dislikes: Sweet flavors, cake, monotony, being restrained.

Lacking direction, Asgleif has spent the last several years of his life throwing himself into myriad hobbies and whimsical interests. From archaic sword-and-buckler techniques pulled out of blurrily imaged manuals to a brief stint trying to understand what made his father's specific formulation of wheat seed so valuable. If his interest could find purchase, he lost himself.

In a moment of clarity, Asgleif put in for the Valkyrie unit. In service, perhaps he might a real, impossibly precious purpose. Perhaps, also, he might break in the attempt. Skills:
  • Font of Useless Knowledge: Free to indulge, Asgleif has studied broadly and without rhyme -- as a result, he's an ace with a quote or a line of poetry. The depths of his knowledge are esoteric, existential, and often inane.
  • Groundfighting: Asgleif is not a paragon of the martial arts, by any means, but he's got a nasty way in a clench -- "Daddy taught me t' wrestle, I guess I've just kept at it."
  • Needlessly Archaic Armed Combat - His zornhau is particularly good, the nerd
  • Resilience - While perhaps not a healthy trait, Asgleif's capacity to endure mental and physical punishment is significant.

I'm being realistic here. If he's malnourished, then there is no way he would have passed the physical fitness test to even qualify as a Valkyrie recruit. It's like SF Candidate selection.

I took out references to Norse Mythology, Gods, and Goddesses.

I left in the generic comments about mythology (I was thinking Greek, Roman, and Celtic) and legends (Arthurian).  I can remove them as well if they are not appropriate.

Thanks
