[ctrl] + [print screen]

Then paste into MSPaint or an equivalent.

On my computer, I don't believe I even need to hit the [ctrl] key.

Alternatively, I use Screengrab, a Firefox add-on. It's the epitome of awesomeness when I need to capture a complete page (versus just the screen).

Thank you for asking that question Inkidu! I've never understood exactly how to do it either! :)

Holding down alt takes a picture of only the current window, is the difference.

Would there be any difference with laptops because it didn't work.

You may have to hold down the Fn key as well.

Is not the difference. I tried both [alt]+[printscreen] and [ctrl]+[printscreen], and both of them printed... what was on my screen? >_>;

It's okay though. Screengrab rocks. <3

Really?

Try a non-maximized window with alt+printscreen?

Ooh, it worked. Cool beans!

When I'm [printscreen]ing, though, I use it because I'm doing snapshots of my screen. But good to know that it can do just the window too. :)

I just tap PrntScr and then paste into paint on my laptop

Oh, hey. I didn't know the [alt]+[prnt screen] thing.

If you have any kind of graphics program (higher than MSPaint), there's probably a capture feature in it.  I use an ancient version of PaintShop Pro, and I think there's a function in GIMP as well.

F-keys, above the numbers above the letter keys - it's a PC thing, not a Mac thing, if that makes a difference.  I also confirmed that GIMP has a screen-capture command in the File menu.

It also might be that your print screen text is in a different color on a key at the top right of your keyboard. If it is, look down on the bottom row for a key that says [Fn] in that same color.  Mind is between the [windows] and [ctrl] key.
