The (She?) Wolves of Hyboria

A Tale Of Swords and Sorcery

So, right now this is primarily just a check to see if there’s any interest out there for a small group game set in the Hyborian World of Robert E Howard’s Conan the Barbarian (and also answer any potential questions that people might have)

A few random thoughts I have so far.

1. Rating / Theme

The game would be in the extreme section. I favour a dark gritty Hyborian world so you can expect to encounter themes of gore, torture, horror, slavery, nudity, sex, rape, and other non con situations. The game will be dark, the World is bleak. Character death or other ‘bad’ endings such as enslavement are possible. Influences include (but are not limited to) Game of Thrones, Spartacus (the Starz series), a bit of Gor and Lovecraft. Both consensual and non consensual sex would be common place, as would nudity. Where neccessary I'll create separate threads so the game doesn't get held up.

2.  Characters

I’d want a group who are at best morally corrupt / ambiguous such as sell swords who are not choosy about whose coin they accept. If you want to step over the line from morally corrupt to actual evil that’s fine so long as it doesn’t end up in in PvP. All characters must be 18+ and human (no futas). Characters may be of any sexual orientation. Writer gender and character gender need not be the same.  Character images should be real pictures. I'll make allowances for realistic fantasy art but not magna, anime, etc. Also, original characters only, no canon. While there's no limit on character type / homeland etc per se, bear in mind magic was relatively rare in the Hyborian World and those who practiced it were often viewed with deep suspicion, so slots for Sorcerers, Witches, etc would be limited.

NOTE. I am considering the possibility of an all female group This is not set in stone though, so would welcome opinions / thought on the subject. (To reconfirm, in the event that I do opt for an all female group, that’s female characters - as noted all writer genders are welcome).

3. Pacing

Moderate. Ideally people wishing to participate should be able to post once / twice per week. I would anticipate posting GM updates twice per week at most (once midweek, once at the weekend). Shorter posts, answers to OOC questions, etc, will be more frequent (as I’m working from home I’m near a keyboard quite frequently at the moment)

4. Mechanics

I’m undecided between free form and system. If system it would be Modiphus’ 2d20 Conan Adventures In An Age Undreamed Of. Again, I’d welcome opinions / thoughts.

As I said, right now this is an interest check - let me know what you think and if the interest is there I’ll push on with setting things up properly.

I'd be interested! I will say I've never used the system if we go that route, so I'll have to learn on the job!

Mister Ugly

I also do not know the system. But I am game!
Count me interested and yes I can play a female character if required.

I'd also be interested!  I've wanted to do something in the Hyborian Age/World for a while now, actually!  I have a character concept for an escaped slave who'll do anything to stay free that could be played either as a male or female.  As far as system, I am vaguely familiar with the Mophidus one and have played around with their online character generator but I really don't know much at all.  So I'd lean towards free form but either works for me!

regificus

I am unfamiliar with the system but would be interested! I play female character's as well!

Melkart

I'm interested.

I can play female characters and I really wanted to try some Hyborian Era adventuring. If some of the influences are Game of Thrones, Spartacus and Gor then this is just icing the cake.

Polymorph

I've played Age of Conan and Conan Exiles so always love Hyborian settings. I'd be down to play a warrior from the Amazon nation far to the south.

Primarch

I've been playing a lot of Conan exiles recently so I have a big muse for the setting.
I could play a male or female character, though if we decide to go with a system I would also need to learn the system.

DummieBlondie

I must say that I have just heard this system with this interest post but I am a kind of girl who believes that you should try everything at least once.
so if there is a spot you can count me in.

Excellent! That is lots of interest!

I'll get a proper recruitment thread up asap. I'll post in this thread once that's done (hopefully today, tomorrow at the latest).

Based on responses so far, I think free form would be the better option given not everyone is familiar with the system. Also, given the number of people interested, I'll leave it open to both male and female characters.

How limited are we going on magic users? I was considering the daughter of a Khitai Red Circle sorcerer, with a few minor skills stolen from her youth there. Mostly, she would be a Hyrkanian trained archer with knowledge of magic more than actual magic. So she might know how to craft simple talismans and potions but have none of the “on call” skills like Akiro.

I'm happy to be pretty flexible in that so long as we stay balanced overall. I don't see a problem with a character with a little knowledge / has dabbled a bit and knows a few parlour tricks and / or can concot potions.

That shouldn’t be a problem. Main focus will be archery/hunting, so we’d definitely have room/need for a more magic forward character. I’ll keep it low and put clear limits in the sheet!
