SPACE....a giant black endless horizon with an endless number of stars and through it swims the Great Atuin. A giant turtle on who's starpocked shell stands four enormous elephants Berilia, Tubular, Great T'Phon and Jerakeen upon who's broad and star tanned shoulders rests the disc of the World. The disc is flat it's land masses dotted across its surface like a pizza.....no anchovies though!

Its the year of The Backwards Mango (roughly 20 years after The Shepard's Crown) The twin city of proud Ankh and pestilent Morpork is still watched over by The Patrician, there are rumours he may be a vampire....he started the rumors. However there are some new faces walking the streets. There is a new Commander of the Watch, Sam Vimes very reluctantly and under much pressure from his "loving" wife retired and the only person willing or more aptly forced into the role is his son Sam Vimes II.

The watch under his father's somewhat unwilling eye becamd a thing of respect and everyone and I do mean EVERYONE expects Sam junior to be able to pull off something even more spectacular. There are a few familiar faces amongst the watch when Sam steps in but he needs to recruit.....

For this RP I am suggesting we use the Disc as our playground as it was designed by Sir Pratchett. However as I am sure everyone has their own interpretation of how his characters sound and look and not wishing to ruin his work, I believe it would be best if original characters are used. Hench why I have decided to push the story into the future, so this is our interpretation on what could of happened if  Sir Pratchett continued to write.

My character idea would be Corina Wyrmbidder, the youngest daughter (or granddaughter) of Dragonlady Liessa Wyrmbidder and Hrun the barbarian (from the Wyrmberg sequence in The Colour of Magic). She's left home to locate her deadbeat father (the only other mention of Hrun is in Interesting Times, that he became a Sergeant of the Guard somewhere).

Essentially, a parody of a Boris Vallejo heroine discovering why going around in a chain bikini is a bad idea away from a high magic zone: cold wind, plants have thorns, etc. At least she is genuinely good at fighting.

Sounds interesting. Glad to see this is picking up some interest.

I'll compile a cs code and get the ball rolling.

Potentially quite interested. I absolutely love Discworld! Would love to play a Black Ribboner vampire of some sort.  :-)
Whеn's the last time you tasted blood?
And what would it take to stem the flood?
And I am caught in time...
Like clockwork beneath the permafrost.
I might lose my mind
back to back with oblivion

A few ideas come to mind.. one utterly silly and I could come up with something more rational.

If there was someone with plans for world domination and a manic laugh I would love to play as either an Igor or an Ingorina.

If we can create multiple characters I could well create a take of the world type folk.

What would the story for this thing be that we would be creating characters for? Where would this be set?

Have you read "Making Money"?. You could be someone like Hubert. Someone who's "just" a geek but perhaps a geek with a very dangerous head.

Been a while since I read Making Money, but I did... Ah... A long time ago... *Winces*

*Feels old*

I could certainly come up with something, but would still need to know the setting and the liable plot types/direction for the story. *Nods*

Where on the disc things are, even if just initially, set will be important, and is this a sandbox or GM/Player type thing? And so on...

Let me quickly answer a few bits I'll get back to you all with more later.

I would say at the moment each writer can have a maximum of two characters

Most of the story will be set in AnkhMorpork but that doesn't mean we can't open other areas up.

Name Corina Wyrmbidder
Sex, recognised sex Female, definitely female
Species Human

Job Watchman
Position Lance-Constable (new recruit)

Personality

Corina is very enthusiastic. Particularly about getting into fights; she doesn't necessarily start them, but is happy to wade into them. If 'Confidence' was her middle name, her first name would be 'Over'.

The truth is that Corina's upbringing at the Wyrmberg was rather cloistered and stifling; she's a bit like a teenager who's just sneaked out to a party away from the watchful eyes of her parents...

History

Corina is the granddaughter of Dragonlady Liessa Wyrmbidder and Hrun the barbarian [from The Colour of Magic]. Hrun ran out on her grandmother; all that she knows is that he became a Sergeant of the Guard somewhere [Interesting Times]. He'd traveled from Ankh-Morpork, so she jumped to the erroneous conclusion that he must have been in the Guard there, and resolved to find him. She reasoned that it had to be a suitably heroic profession if Hrun had taken it up.

When the Wyrmberg and Ankh-Morpork negotiated a diplomatic exchange program, her father was startled when Corina begged to be the Wyrmberg's representative. He wasn't the only one: Lord Vetinari actually raised an eyebrow when the message came back suggesting that the representative considered occupation in the City Watch would be appropriate. He summoned the Duke of Ankh.

Sam Vimes thought it was a terrible idea, imagining an effete noble joining the Watch, possibly causing a diplomatic incident after being slightly bruised by a criminal. He wasn't impressed when he saw Corina: young, attractive, and wearing a 'national costume' more suited to The Street of Negotiable Affection than the Watch.

Still, it was up to his son to sort it out.

Sam Vimes II thought it was a terrible idea, but for a different reason. Corina might look like someone more usually seen dancing at the Pink PussyCat Club, but as well as her grandmother's looks, she'd inherited her grandfather's whipcord muscles, and was entirely too keen to wade into a fight. A diplomatic incident was more likely to involve her getting killed, or hitting the wrong person. Still, his father had taught subtlety to Detritus and other trolls; she couldn't be worse than that.

Could she?

Man, I'm stuck on the fence. Someone gimme a push. This could be so good, or so very bad. Sausage inna bun bad.

Did anything come of the villain idea? I could maybe get behind playing one of Evil Harry's grandsons, who's decided to take up the family trade.

Name - Benedeka Jozefa Ilari von Desidera…   a.k.a. “Benni” a.k.a. “The Bloody Widow Baroness”
Sex, recognised sex – A very fancy lady
Species - Vampire

Job – Rare Stamp Trader and guard in the Night Watch
Position - Lance-Corporal

Personality – Benni is perpetually awkward. And tries very, very, very hard to be boring. She clings to her dullness the way a dehydrated man clings to the thought of water. She's lived an exciting life already. She wants to be a normal boring guard. She's a dutiful person and occasionally slips into weird Uberwaldan behaviors when she's not trying aggressively to be normal. She has a super thick accent.

History - Her family all just became Black Ribboners in an effort to get with the times, and she’s been pressured to get on the bandwagon, too. So she has. Benni, unfortunately, to take the pledge...is having to re-invent her whole life. She came to Ankh-Morpork a few years ago to make her fortune...and the Watch has become an actually reputable (well, minus people like Nobby) position, like joining the military without actually fighting a war. So this past year, she decided to try her hand at being a guard after a series of failed other jobs. (For example, a vampire like Benni who says "ve do not drink....wine" makes a poor sommelier)

Benni isn't old for a vampire, but that isn't saying a lot compared to human ages--she's still much older than most humans. She had a rather vaunted history in Uberwald that she’s trying hard to not fall back into...and more importantly, she can't go back to it. There's plenty of vampire hunters eager to put a stake in her heart.

A good way to describe her personal history is the following interaction taken from her original interview before joining the Watch:

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Sergeant: Posh Uberwald nob, eh? Got a ‘von’ and everything in your name. Never did understand why you types join up—we got another one of you, a Sally. What’s it say here—you were a Baroness? Nice gal like you not married? You must have left a trail of broken hearts.
Benni: Erm. No.
Sergeant: No?
Benni: No.
Sergeant: Bloody hell, you were the Bloody Widow?
Benni:  ...um. I haff my Black Ribbon to show you. I promise I am a new and improved me who does not in any vay seduce impressionable handsome men any longer. See, I haff stamps like a proper boring person vith zer normal human hobbies.
Sergeant: You can't be any weirder than the rest we get in the Night Watch; I'll pass your name up to the young Commander.

At the same time, a lot of Black Ribboners have to replace their addiction to blood with something else. Benni? She replaced hers with something that makes even other vampires cringe: stamp collecting. A sufficiently rare stamp can send poor Benni into an absolute frenzy. A bloodlust, if you will. But for stamps. She does trade stamps in her spare time since she's 'noble' and thus is expected to have useless hobbies anyways, and that dovetails nicely into her Black Ribbon pledge.

She's not been in the Watch very long but is determined to do well. She generally avoids talking about her personal life or history before she took the pledge with her family; she finds it embarrassing.
