GAH!  TOOO MANY IDEASSSSS!

Don't know whether to apologise or not. Your earlier ideas may've been more in line for the level of this game. But a dark elf would be workable.

Nowherewoman

Agreed. Think Imma stick with one of my first impressions, probably the alien Gunsuit meme.
If one thinks of omniscience as causal rather than predictive- not 'THIS!', but 'If this, then that; infinite matrices of infinite dimensions each- it goes a long way towards reconciliation with Free Will.

It does not, however, make it easier to contemplate or accept a being capable of visualizing such an array.

I can't tell if you meant to write theme here or not. Either way I think I'd say that idea was a personal favourite and probably the most likely to function well here.

Solistair

This looks really good. I'm thinking about playing a nephilim who will possess an array of limited physical and innate magical powers (a limited capacity for holy magic such as exorcism) but suppresses his magic due to the multitude of heavenly and demonic beings that seek to either kill or use nephilim. A history with the supernatural has made him extremely paranoid and cynical of others. Having been on the run from forces the rest of the world cannot see, being a hero is the last thing on his agenda though something within him always compels him to help those in need. Possessing the ability to sense evil, he has taken the profession of a private detective and exorcist in NYC.

Faceclaim not yet determined. Maybe a conceptual pic.

Amarlo

This is the character I'll be submitting. I may make some updates to her, as I've discussed with Sun. But for the most part I think this is pretty much how I'll keep her. ^^

Dara Park
Basic Information
Name: Harmony | Dara Park
Alias/Nicknames: Citali | Dara Park
Source: Parahuman.
Citizenship: United States of America
Place of Birth: Miami, Florida
Occupation: Light Technician

Physical Description
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Chinese-American
Height: 5’1”
Weight: 105 lbs
Eye Colour: Obsidian
Hair Colour: Brunette naturally, but varies due to hair dye.
General Appearance: Dara is one of those people with deceptively approachable features and holds a sort of ‘sexy girl next door’ look to her. While she is best described as slight in stature, she is beautifully curved and holds the body of a dancer or a gymnast with the agility and flexibility to back it up. The only obvious piercings are the three set in each of her ears. As for tattoos, etched along her back are the feathered wings of a black raven - or perhaps a broken angel - a gift drawn for her by her sister.

When conducting her ‘business’ she tends towards more simplistic and traditional means of hiding her identity, namely handkerchiefs or balaclavas and a pair of goggles. Her hair is typically tied back or covered as a whole, and she tends to look more like a hoodlum about to rob a store than a hero.

Personality & History

Personality: At a glance Dara can be best described as hard to predict. Her personality can tend to shift on any given occasion and just when you think you’ve finally noticed a trend in her behavior she reacts in a way to something you do or say that totally throws you off. This can be good or bad – good because sometimes she may not react as vehemently as you’d thought, bad because she may react worse than you’d originally theorized. Upon first meeting Dara, she can often to come off as hostile with a serious attitude problem – or just plain out indifferent and distant. It’s very likely that any first meetings with her were unpleasant, to say the least. However, it is all a coping mechanism dredged up by her unpredictable and unsatisfactory upbringing – E.I. make yourself look big and scary and people tend to leave you the hell alone. The problem is that on some occasions this sort of behavior has gotten her the exact opposite and created more problems for her in the long run.

As the eldest of her twin situation, she has taken up the mantle of ‘over protective, bossy sister’ on more than a handful of situations. This has made her a bit of a mother hen deep down inside. At a distance she can be recognized as a very curious creature by nature, always interested in examining her surroundings and the things within it for new information and experiences. When placed in a casual situation where she is actually more comfortable, the woman defaults to a more laxed attitude. However, her sense of humor – albeit usually of sarcastic and crude overtones – is usually her way of compensating for uneasiness or even fear when her fiery temper doesn’t over feed her courage in the moment. She also shows an unquenchable fondness for puns and word play.

History: Harmony’s childhood was doomed from the start. She and her twin, Melody, had the unfortunate luck of being born to two not so very responsible or mentally sound young adults - who were also a bunch of filthy hippies with the way they named the two girls! Their parents had a nasty drug addiction that they’d been cultivating since they were young teens. This meant there was usually very little money to go towards the necessities of life, certainly not when every extra penny was going towards their next high. They spent most of their days in a drug addled haze, which left the two girls to their own devices – as well as the responsibility for their own survival. It was only by some miracle that they made it to the tender age of ten, but as luck would have it their parents saw them more as legal burdens and property than anything else. They decided shortly after their tenth birthday that the burden of neglecting their two daughters was too much and attempted to sell them in exchange for the biggest drug pay off of their life.

Luckily for the two girls, the police were caught up in a sting operation that brought the two into the welcoming arms of the state rather than human trafficking. Unfortunately, that threw them to the wolves of an ever questionable foster care system – with the two split up. For 6 years they were lost amongst the system - unceremoniously ripped up, chewed up and spit out. Several times over the course of these years Harmony and Melody attempted to meet up and run away, and each time they were caught and dragged right back in. Stricter rules were stacked upon them and they were pulled further and further apart but that didn’t seem to keep them from trying again for very long. It wasn’t until the two girls were 16 that they actually managed to get free of that hell pit for good - happy to get lost among the already rabid slew of missing youths listed throughout the United States. Although unfortunate and accidental circumstances of their escape placed the names Harmony and Melody Gao on many of America's News channels as wanted murderers.

Now days she and Melody travel between a handful of States with a low popularity but moderately high cult following rock band called Womb Emergency, under their new aliases as Dara and Shae Park.  Dara never got her high school diploma but she did manage to get a GED pretty quickly. She tried the whole college thing but that proved to be a bit too tough between her struggles for money and her shitty jobs. Eventually, after she managed to bank on a job as Womb Emergency’s light technician, she left her pitiful attempts for higher education behind and happily attempts to survive from gig to gig with the band - as well as her sister’s unfortunate spiral into madness.

Between her history and her family’s battle with addiction, Dara grew a deep seated distaste for the drug trafficking industry. It started as a way to thwart her twin’s self-destructive behavior, but as time went on her attacks on the cartel and black market became something more than a personal vendetta. She knew too well that dark things brewed in tandem with illegal drugs, and as she traveled with her band along the west coast more than a handful of caches were lost to flames.

Superpowers

  • Photokinesis: The ability to manipulate visible radiation. Dara cannot focus light into things like laser blasts but can disperse them.(Although she may be able to later on. I haven’t decided yet)
    Extra Reading
The professor of a university challenged his students with this question. "Did God create everything that exists?" A student answered bravely, "Yes, he did".

The professor then asked, "If God created everything, then he created evil. Since evil exists, God is evil”. The student couldn't respond to that statement causing the professor to conclude that he had "proved" that "belief in God" was a fairy tale, and therefore worthless.

Another student raised his hand and asked the professor, "May I pose a question? " "Of course" answered the professor.

The young student stood up and asked : "Professor does Cold exists?"
The professor answered, "What kind of question is that? ...Of course the cold exists... haven't you ever been cold?"

The young student answered, "In fact sir, Cold does not exist. According to the laws of Physics, what we consider cold is in fact the absence of heat. Anything is able to be studied as long as it transmits energy (heat). Absolute Zero is the total absence of heat, but cold does not exist. What we have done is create a term to describe how we feel if we don't have body heat or we are not hot."

"And, does Dark exist?", he continued. The professor answered "Of course". This time the student responded, "Again you're wrong, Sir. Darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in fact simply the absence of light. Light can be studied, darkness cannot. Darkness cannot be broken down. A simple ray of light tears the darkness and illuminates the surface where the light beam finishes. Dark is a term that we humans have created to describe what happens when there's a lack of light."

Finally, the student asked the professor, "Sir, does evil exist?" The professor replied, "Of course it exists, as I mentioned at the beginning, we see violations, crimes and violence anywhere in the world, and those things are evil."

The student responded, "Sir, Evil does not exist. Just as in the previous cases, Evil is a term which man has created to describe the absence of Good."

    • Light Manipulation – the ability to intensify, dispel, condense and shape light. This has multiple applications.
      • Boson-photon Field Construction - In the recent years Dara has started to play with the reality of hard light fields and constructs. She first started integrating the use of light in this manner to add temporary solidity to her holographic projections, giving others the illusion of touch and feel. With this ability she can temporarily manifest shields hard enough to deflect a speeding bullet, as well as other useful little things. By anchoring this ability to something, such as the ground, it can withstand even more applied force. The length of time she can consistently hold one of these up are directly involved with the overall size, complexity and amount of fields she is controlling.
      • Illusions – Dara will eventually be able to shape light to create realistic visual holographic illusions. While she could manipulate light into shapes that move, in the beginning she was not able to make them look like anything more realistic than 3D laser light shows. Today, with lots of practice, she has started to master a greater finesse to the look of her illusions and has started to experiment at least partial, and usually temporary, integration of her boson-photon fields.  These illusions do not create their own sounds.

    • Perception Manipulation – She has the ability to manipulate her own perception of the world around her by altering the way light is received by her eyes, allowing her to see in situations where sight with the naked eye would otherwise be impossible. This does not protect her from sudden visibility changes. Nor does it apply in pitch black and completely light devoid settings that span past her range of control.

    • Photokinetic Invisibility – The ability to manipulate the visible spectrum around oneself, another person or object and maintain this invisibility so long as those within cease movement or move very slowly. This affects a very small area at a time, at the most a radius of three feet and requires that those within the cloak stay still to remain flawless. If she or those within the cloak move to quickly the cloak isn’t as effective and will warp slightly, especially the faster and more they move within it. This ability does not shield against other senses, but does shield from infrared.

Skills and Equipment

Skills:

Gymnastics: - She makes a fine acrobat, although she’s not exactly an Olympian. She’d be making waaay more money if she was!
Stealth - This was definitely an acquired skill, because as she threw herself deeper and deeper into the life of a saboteur she realized how important stealth was - through fucking up a lot
Streetwise - Dara’s been in all sorts of fun places and circumstances throughout her life, and thanks to her time on the streets, she knows a little too well how things operate there.
Survival – She can turn just about anything into a filling meal. She knows the best places to catch a wink on the street and she knows exactly what to avoid. She can also patch herself and others up to a certain extent, anything more than a simple stitching and they really need to go to the hospital though… Dara has always been a survivor.
Brawler - She was never really formally taught anything but she was taught a hell of a lot through real life experience. While her fighting style can’t really be called anything specific, it’s probably a broad mixture of many different styles – like a Jack of all trades but a master in none. She’s a master of her own self-defense, let’s just put it that way. Being as small as she is, Dara had to learn how to defend herself early on. This has turned her into quite the surprising little no holds barred shit-stomper over the years.

Equipment:

Whatever is on hand?: Dara doesn’t exactly carry around equipment, per say. She tends to just go with what she’s got… Unless she’s got it planned out before hand. In which case, she usually brings some sort of flammable agent. Preferably the cheapest.

Flaws and Weaknesses

Flaws:

Traumatized – She’s seen, done and been exposed to things in her young age that most don’t see in their entire life time. To say the least she’s got issues, and a whole slew of triggers. Most of which can make her already iffy moral compass become even more shaky. Between her history with drugs, human trafficking and child abuse, it's safe to say these things are tough subjects for her.

Mixed up – Dara doesn’t typically act like the average twenty-something. While in some areas this is a good thing, in many it’s quite the opposite. She often struggles with the differences between right and wrong, as well as concepts of what’s normal or otherwise. Generally she has a terrible world view and is prone to believing that people are only nice to her because they want something from her.

Weaknesses:

Self-blinding: She can accidentally blind herself - typically this is temporary.
Headaches: The more she uses her abilities, the more her head hurts and the harder it gets to concentrate.

At a glance he sounds potentially a little much for the extremely 'street level' tier I am going for. That is a lot of experience. It's workable but needs to be kept to the lower end of the ways I can see that being taken.

Pics are fine for some things but a faceclaim's needed for a human-looking characer, with Nephilim would be.

Also to note that powers are limited to five here, and if they have five they need to be a weak five. But again, it is workable if it's a low-key take on it.

Dara looks great, and will of course be welcome back.

My char could be deviating more toward the human-end of his race to explain weaker attributes. I'm thinking a previous encounter with an angel would have left lasting scars on him too.

Sounds like a wise move. I would say a potential way to limit his power and explain him sticking to NYC could be that it also caused him a head injury, limiting some of his memories of his experience with the divine. Or the angel purposefully took them away. Well within their ability and the kind of thing they would do. I see them as fairly secretive.

I see them as being quite dangerous but, at times, kind. Probably depends on the kind of angel I'm probably going to do a mirrored seven sins/seven virtues thing with the demons and angels so there'll be types of angel, some nicer than others.

Nowherewoman

Still needs some filling in, but this is what I'm working towards:

Sgt. Cheyenne Wyatt AKA 'Bug Hunt'
Basic Information
Name: Cheyenne 'Shay' Wyatt
Alias/Nicknames: Bug Hunt
Source: What makes them superhuman? Implanted alien technology.
Citizenship:United States
Place of Birth: Chicago, IL
Occupation: Personal Defense and Firearms Trainer

Physical Description
Age: 41
Gender: F
Sexuality: Bi
Ethnicity: Irish-Italian
Height: 5'10”
Weight: 152#
Eye Colour: Grey
Hair Colour:Black
General Appearance: Cut and a bit stern.  Shay usually 'dresses down' if she's not in a gi, but whatever she wears always leaves her belly and lower spine covered- no bikinis, crop tops, like that.  While not unattractive, what skin she does bare shows numerous faded scars, some from weapons and others that look like surgical incisions.

Her embedded gear means she doesn't really have to  cover up for street ops, but she usually wears casual camos and a web belt, anyway, as well as a night vision mask.

Personality & History

Personality:

Traits:
-stubborn.
-often aggressive.
-seems a bit closed-off emotionally, stand-offish, but;
-has shown more than average sympathy towards those dealing with recurrent medical issues, and victims of domestic abuse. Human traffickers, in fact, are on of her favorite targets.
-driven, in both her own training and that she offers.
-fairly Old Testament in her ideas of right and wrong.

Goals:
-Establish control over her implants on a permanent basis.
-Live as normal a life as possible once that's done.
-In between hurt a lot of criminals.

History: Rule one: when in doubt, never volunteer. Rule two: if doubt persists, see rule one.

Shay knew better, she really did. Her path was as narrow and easy as any in a Special Forces career could be: after her last overseas deployment, rotate Stateside for a Counter-Terror gig. Punch the ticket, rise in rank, finally muster out as a Master Sergeant or even a Top.

So it was dumb to even listen to the guy in the suit who claimed he was from Special Activities Division, and dumber yet to agree to a 'short' TDY. Of course the carrot dangling from the stick was a jump in grade, plus a bonus.

Hindsight is 20/20.  Even the fact that the plane was blacked out didn't bother her, and if they tried real hard to keep her from guessing where they'd landed (desert; later, she'd bet it was New Mexico, of Area 51 fame) well, spooks liked their games, and secret training sites were not exactly a new thing to her.

Finding out what they had in mind was, though. As was waking up to discover what they'd done to her...

Fifteen months later, she was a civvie again, with her papers stamped Retired (Medical), a fairly fat bank account (the spooks had made good on the bonus promise, at least, and someone handwaved her pension eligibility), and a Top Secret NDA  that made the Patriot Act look squishy. Plus a body covered with scars and full of bizarre widgets, and spiders dancing in her skull.

Now she teaches basic self-defense to nervous soccer moms, and more advanced stuff to local Law Enforcement and the occasional bouncer or what have you.  With all the chaos on the streets these days, Protect Inc. is doing fairly well.

And in between, she does what she can to lessen the chaos on the streets. Often in the most chaotic manner imaginable.

Superpowers

While in the desert, Wyatt was implanted with several pieces of experimental tech developed from recovered alien craft in an attempt to make a B-movie 'supersoldier'. While it did sorta ½ work, there are issues, as they always are.(see weaknesses and flaws).  The things living(?) inside her skin give her a few very useful abilities:

Enhanced strength, speed, and senses: she's not going to leap any tall buildings in a single bound, but she can drop from a third-story roof and, if she remembers her training and lands right, not take any hurt from it.  If she pushes it, she can bench press around 800 pounds, and she can lift up the engine-block end of a small truck unaided.  Her hearing and vision, especially night vision, are exceptional.  Smell is unaffected, her sense of touch is actually somewhat diminished, and her taste for spicy foods has completely vanished- she can't stand flavors that are too strong.  At max, she can sustain a running speed of about 25 MPH for a bit, and can clear medium trees with a running start.

Armoring: Cheyenne's tactile sensitivity is degraded because the widgets they put in her have spread a reactive web under her skin. It serves as very high-quality body armor, though it's more effective against cutting and piercing trauma than blunt force, and can be overwhelmed if she's hit by too many things at once.  So she's reasonably bulletproof, but a large bomb blast, while probably not lethal since the impact would be spread across the web, would quite likely injure her, possibly badly.  A minigun would still cut her in half, if she held still for more than half a second in its fire, and while the web provides some protection from caustics, cold and electricity, it's not so good with fire.

It also makes her skin feel slightly clammy and rubbery to the touch. Great on date night.

Body weaponry:  While Shay prefers to use firearms- the heavier the better- the Agency's gadgets also 'gifted' her with stiletto-like blades embedded in her wrists, heels and elbows. Exceptionally thin and tough, they resemble bone more than any crafted material, and can quite handily penetrate a car door or light body armor.

The also get stuck, some times, either in or out, causing her a great deal of discomfort, so she prefers to not use them. Not that they always give her a choice...

Skills and Equipment

Skills:

Firearms expertise
Hand to Hand Combat expertise
Tactical and Infiltration training
Armory maintenance

Equipment:

Between being ex-military and a licensed firearms instructor, getting things that go 'bang' isn't all that difficult.  If it's something that's not supposed to be available over the counter, an ex-SpecOps grunt knows who to talk to.  Shay's smart enough to not keep a huge arsenal at her dojo or at home, but she has a few things always near to hand.

Desert Eagle (laser targeting): While Wyatt's the first to tell her students that the size of a weapon is a distant third to competence and practice, when it comes to intimidation factor, there's little to match staring down the rail-tunnel sized bore of her .50 sidearm of choice.

AA-12 Auto-Assault shotgun: when it pays to send the most of the very best.

If she's going quiet, for some reason, she might choose to carry

Glock 9mm (suppressed)

APC9K submachine gun (suppressed, low-light optical sight)

Gerber MK II combat knife

She also often uses a set of civilian Yukon night vision goggles, to not have to rely on her 'enhanced' abilities in low-light situations.

Flaws and Weaknesses

Flaws:

-mild paranoia.
-anger and aggression issues.
-The Voice From Beyond.
It's unclear if her implants are actually quasi-sentient, are channeling signals from somewhere else, or her rejection syndrome (see weaknesses) is inducing schizophrenia.  Whatever it is, they talk to her some times. Or she thinks they do. Something. At the best, it's distracting; at times, it's downright dangerous.

Weaknesses:

Shay was written off, at one level of the project, as a failure.  There were too many issues with her implants- but removing them would have killed her.  Part of her paranoia stems from the fact that she's quite sure, now, that she was deliberately kicked loose as a Black Box experiment to see what she would do.  At the time, she was too muzzy to question her medical discharge and the fact that she wasn't set up with a nice quite cell in a maximum-security prison somewhere.  Say in Antarctica.

Now she detects or imagines shadows, tapped phones, and other odd events all surrounding her.  Not without cause- after all, 'they' keep supplying her with anti-rejection meds...

Rejection Syndrome: Simply put, Wyatt's human body isn't happy with all the alien crap that's been stuffed into it. Digestive problems, respiratory infections, and serious muscle aches and weakness are not uncommon, especially right after she's exerted her 'powers'.

A Lieutenant Kembo, someone assuredly associated with the Agency or NSA, contacts her every so often to deliver new supplies of Interferon and other drugs to help tamp down the symptoms- either someone feels a sense of responsibility, or they want to see how far she'll go before she flames out.

Implant Failure: Adding injury to injury, her little tricks don't always work.  The armoring may decide it's had enough for today, her legs may give out, or her night vision may quit.  It's indicative that this is most often accompanied by an increase in activity of the voices in her head. (See above)

Hyperadrenalism:One of the most dangerous side effects of what's been done to her is that on rare occasions, Wyatt completely loses control.  Some reaction to either the implants or the drugs (or both) sends her fight-or-flight system into overdrive, and she becomes insanely aggressive. The rage usually lasts only a few minutes, but in that time, she is likely to destroy everything around her. Fortunately, the few times it's happened, it's been directed at criminal elements, and there's been no collateral damage.

So far...

At max, she can sustain a running speed of about 25 MPH for a bit, and can clear tall trees with a running start.

Armoring: Her tactile sensitivity is degraded because the widgets they put in her have spread a reactive web under her skin.

Body weaponry:  While Shay prefers to use firearms- the heavier the better- the Agency's gadgets also 'gifted' her with a pair of dagger-like blades embedded in her wrists and kick spikes in her heels. Exceptionally thin and tough, they resemble bone more than any crafted material, and can quite handily punch through a car door.

The also get stuck, some times, either in or out, causing her a great deal of discomfort, so she prefers to not use them. Not that they always give her a choice...

Skills and Equipment

Skills:

(Skill Name Here): A skill is a talent attainable by an ordinary person. What is your character good at? Most particularly as a vigilante. A character shouldn't have more than five skills listed here.

Equipment:

(Equipment Name Here): Any ordinary equipment that is vital to this person and/or their heroics, but that is not beyond the realm of ordinary human technology. For example, a handgun, laptop used for hacking or a bulletproof vest would fit here. Mjolnir would not.

Flaws and Weaknesses

Flaws:

-mild paranoia.
-anger and aggression issues.
-The Voice From Beyond.
It's unclear if her implants are actually sentient, are channeling signals from somewhere else, or her rejection syndrome (see weaknesses) is inducing schizophrenia.  Whatever it is, they talk to her some times.

At the time, she was too muzzy to question her medical discharge and the fact that she wasn't set up with a nice quiet cell in a maximum-security prison somewhere.

A Lieutenant Kembo contacts her every so often to deliver new supplies of Interferon and other drugs to help tamp down the symptoms- either someone feels a sense of responsibility, or they want to see how far she''l go before she flames out.

Implant Failure: Adding injury to injury, her little tricks don't always works.  The armoring may decide it's had enough for today, her legs may give out, or her night vision may quit.  It may be telling that this is most often accompanied by an increase in activity of the voices in her head. (See above)

I feel like Dara and Cheyenne could really get along. Or either hate each other. At least in the beginning. x3 They both seem to have a real thing against human trafficking. I like her already!

It does not, however, make it easier to contemplate or accept a being capable of visualizing such an array.

I completely misunderstood then.  I remain stupid, apparently.

I would love to be in this RP!  I will PM about character thoughts.  I am strongly considering re-using Prowl but I've also got other things noodling about.

I want to be mean and say 'some things never change' but I don't remember you doing anything stupid in the first place, which means remaining stupid would be hard. Anyway, everyone misses things sometimes. It's easily done.

You're welcome to return either with Prowl or with someone else! Always happy to figure it in PM's.

One light note regarding originality in this game.

That does not apply to 'enhanced physiology'. It may apply to the source particularly with more unusual sources but 'stronger/faster/tougher' is not going to be anyone's to claim. Just too commonplace an archetype for superhero settings to have only one allowed in.
