I'm looking for/looking to help start a modern, slice of life group that...
  • Is LGBTLMNOP-friendly, or LGBT-themed, or M/M-themed (order of preference)
  • Favors plot over smut, whether the game itself be a sandbox or something with more direction
  • Demands no more than one post a week as a minimum, but is, at the least, tolerant of the occasional delayed post
  • Uses face claims/models
  • Requires at least a one-paragraph minimum
  • Encourages everyone to play with everyone, not only those their characters are compatible with
  • Allows more than one character per player--not a deal breaker, but it's certainly a nice feature
  • Is either set in America or is immigrant-friendly

Here are a few vague ideas, but others are welcome:
  • High school or college setting that permits faculty as playable characters
  • High school reunion, with an exploration of its aftermath (at least for those writers who would want to stick around that long)
  • Or, a friends' reunion. Something initially upbeat until drama sets in, or an attempt to reconnect after a falling out, or a scenario in which a mutual friend's untimely death brings them together
  • Something else revolving around a group of friends - a summer before they part ways for college, an attempt to co-exist in an apartment/house while pursuing their futures
  • City or suburban living

I'd love to be able to explore this character (sheet is subject to modifications), but it's not a must; really, it'd just be fun to have another modern group game to enjoy.

I'd tentatively be open to co-GMing, depending on the concept.

Anyone else interested in a similar group? It'd be great to start a conversation and see what takes shape!

If you start a group, you know that you can count me in, dude! (unless it's purely M/M. Those are a bit too less diverse for me) <3

Always nice to have you in a group. :D

Honestly, that first bullet is order of preference for me. I see M/M only being suitable for a small group (4-6 characters), in part because I can't imagine there being enough interest to sustain something larger. Just wanted to provide clarification for anyone else who might glance at this thread. :-)

Honestly, everything I am currently searching for is right here. I would love to be a part of a game like this as well and already have so many ideas floating around. A modern, slice of life story based around college (or late high school years) would be pretty great. I've noticed that these are rather rare stories though but when the pop up out of nowhere; all the excitement! If there was a way to give the story events to unfold as time goes on, that would be interesting to explore, whether those are dramatic, tragic or even just something simple like a school dance or a party.

Just an idea too taken from an old game I used to partake in as a Co-GM; potentially allowing player characters to create their own clubs or safe spaces, maybe even create events of their own would be great. This offers more freedom to the players and can add more substance to the characters backgrounds and personality. =]

It's great to see some interest. :D Would a college setting be what you two are leaning towards, then?

College sounds good to me. ~nods~ Way better than Highschool due to the possible age of characters. Not so much a fan of everything that's below 20. But that's just me.

H'okay, I'm slowly starting to get things together for a college group. I guess I'ma try my hand at GMing, lol. ^^ It's still early stages, so I don't want to make it sound like a sure-thing for the sake of not raising hopes, but if it happens, I'll create an interest check in the proper board and link to it here. It'll probably be a few days at the least, as I'd like to put together the setting first.

A question for those who would like to share their two cents, though. Faculty as player characters. Yay or nay? I've been mulling it over and could see it going either way, so I was curious what the general consensus might be. Yes, it would allow for teacher/student pairings for those who desired them, but the goal with the group is that it exists as something far more than a porno or a dating simulator, so if faculty were included, the hope would be that people will want to explore them as legitimate characters, for actual plots, not only to fulfill a fantasy. Opinions?

I've no problem with faculty. In fact, for the character concept I have in mind, it would be quite convinient. ;D Even if it's 'just' an NPC. Those are always necessary, after all.

Oh? Now I'm curious. ;D But yes! NPCs would be an option if nothing else. :-)

It would be lovely to have you in the group. :D No hard feelings if you do change your mind, of course! I understand this might all be tentative until things become concrete. :-)

*Snickers*

Nice to see unfamiliar faces, too. ;D Hello! I look forward to potentially writing with you.

I know that I will use him..

Looks like we already have one face claim making a spiffy entrance. :P

So, um, this is probably a super nerdy thing to do, but it's one of the first things I personally look at when considering a group, and figured it might be helpful to anyone who's been eyeing this thread (vocally or otherwise). Without further ado, here are the rules:

  • First and foremost, follow Elliquiy's rules. 'Nuff said there.
  • We are LGBTLMNOP-friendly. Cross-gender writing is perfectly fine, too.
  • This group will favor character development and plot, of more than the romantic/sexual persuasion. If you want nothing more than a dating simulator/porno, great, but search for that elsewhere.
  • The only drama we want is of the IC variety. Be respectful to everyone OOC. This also means no criticizing another player's character or writing style. Anyone who is seen showing their ass will kindly be given the boot to it, right out the virtual door.
  • Let's be inclusive, yeah? This means:
    • Be open to writing with players who are new to you. OOC cliques and "pairings" don't promote a good group environment.
    • Don't target only characters who are sexually/romantically compatible with yours. The reason for this has already been explained.
    • Especially do not tell someone else who they can or can't write with. That goes against Elliquiy's possessiveness rule.
  • This group will be placed in the non-con board so that players can have more freedom, if they so choose to exercise it. Anyone is welcome to join this game, regardless of their personal limits. Non-con or not, a player must still consent, and their O/Os must be respected.
  • Because of the previous, players must have O/Os set up if they wish to join.
  • No bestiality or incest or any kink that would be more appropriate for the Extreme boards.
  • In terms of non-sexual content, this group will allow for heavier themes, such as drug abuse and dating violence. Again, nothing should be forced on a player (and their character) without their consent. The group will also use post headers, so that readers can be warned about certain content they might desire to skip.
  • Poking for posts is one of the leading causes of muse fatalities. Don't do it! Protect the fragile species! The GM(s) will check in with players if they haven't been active in the OOC or IC for two weeks, and if their A/As do not suggest why. If a player drops out with no hint of a return, or if they fail to respond to the PM in a week, while still being active elsewhere, the GM(s) reserve the right to do as they see fit to the player's character(s). This includes allowing someone to take over said character, with tweaks if they desire (with proper credit to the original writer). If a player has become inactive on E as a whole, and a week has passed since the PM was sent, their characters will be marked as inactive to be fair to them.
  • At least one post a week is preferred, but it's not a hard rule, because it's understandable that real life and cranky muses can interfere. What primarily matters is that players continue to show presence, whether in the IC or OOC, and that they're communicative. If you're going to be away for an extended period and are able to do so, please either say something in the OOC or PM a GM. It's the courteous thing to do.
  • No complaining/pestering if someone posts in another scene before yours. It's understandable that waiting can be a living hell when the muse is on fire, but really, patience is a virtue. The other player will get to it when they're ready. On the flip side, if you're struggling with a scene, please be communicative about it, because there is such a thing as making someone wait too long without word. Obviously, "too long" might vary from person to person, but use good judgment, or err on the side of courteousness.
  • Posts should be at least 2 paragraphs long in most cases. Please write in third person.
  • There will be an OOC. Let's make it a lighthearted place, so leave politics, negativity, and overly sexual/flirtatious talk to the respective boards/threads on E.
  • Understand that IC and OOC are two distinct, separate realms, meaning:
    • Don't get upset over something that happens IC. Players are not their characters, meaning their views aren't necessarily the same, and remember that, just like real people, characters don't always do what you hope they will.
    • Don't inject OOC knowledge into the IC.
  • No controlling another player's character, or auto-hitting them, at least not without asking for that player's permission. Don't tell another player how to write their character.
  • No X-rated images, please. This goes for both IC and OOC.
  • Possible character concepts are pretty open as long as they're realistic, at least eighteen years old, and not too dark. E.g., no serial killers. No Mary/Gary Stus, either; characters should have flaws.

The more fun elements will come in a GMs Seeking Players thread, once I've gotten the setting built. :-)

If you don't mind me asking. Kyrsa and I were talking about possibly having twin characters. Of course, we would not only have scenes with each other or anything of the sort... but if you would rather us have completely unrelated characters in any way (no previous friendship and not siblings) I would kinda like to know so I can maybe rethink what I might want in this RP?

Twins would be perfectly acceptable! It's great when characters have shared backstories and I encourage it. It enriches the game and makes sense that friends and siblings might attend the same university, or people from the same high schools.

The only thing I would discourage is creating a character for the sole purpose of trying to ship them with another. Nothing different from Fashion Affair's guidelines. :-)

Agreed! I think the rules are reasonable. Looking forward to everything and mulling over my character in the meantime... I have a couple of options right now. Definitely up for players being able to create faculty members! I think it would be a great addition. =]

Nice to see that you all haven't been deterred by the rules. :D As Nic might have suggested, there is a sheet, but it's still a bit in flux while I try to get the university's culture started, so I'm gonna keep it a bit under wraps for the time being. I'm aiming to go with a fictional campus to have more freedom with a more sandbox-y feel. It will be set either in San Francisco or somewhere in the bay area.

And faculty will be an option for playable characters.

After reading about the string of Greek life suspensions that happened last fall, I'm considering the idea of this university implementing an outright ban after experiencing their own troubles. Maybe it could open up the potential for a little conflict/unrest for any players who might like to explore it--frustration at the administration and those individuals who shut the frats and sororities down (including students probably), maybe other possibilities I'm not considering at the moment. This setup could maybe involve a shift to a secret society (two at most), based on player interest.

Thoughts? If there was anyone who was keen on playing in a frat or a sorority, please let me know! This is only a consideration at the moment.
