Note: The first round of character applications has been made and the selections were not sufficient to start the game. After seeing several people stating, "I would of offered, but..." when the ggame was closed, it is reset and opened for new characters. The desired class types below is a guideline of what I would like to see; not a demand and if there are enough viable characters, I'll run the game. So, if you want a chance, jump now... you have until August 30th to offer your characters. As a further note, just because someone else is offering something that you want to play, offer it anyway, this isn't a first come, first serve situation and your offering may better suit what I want to run. If you're unsure about something, ASK a question!

Thank you,

The management.

Lub… dub… lub… dub… the sound of a low, slow heartbeat whispers in your ears. A circular chamber surrounds you, cloaked in darkness, except for a flickering blue-white light struggling against the gloom. Situated amid 6 black veined marble columbs, a crystal and gold vessel sits upon an obsidian dais

Lub… dub… lub… dub… the measured, too slow beat grows more distinct as you near the softly glowing container… a casket like case reveals itself as you grow ever closer. A casual swipe of the hand clears the thick dust and you finally see through the clear surface, a woman, young and beautiful seems as if she were merely sleeping, but you can tell instinctively that this chamber has not been disturbed for decades at the least… Still, a beautiful woman with long raven locks around features that could almost break the heart with it’s purity lays just beyond your reach under the crystal clear surface… full lashes feather high cheekbones under straight, narrow brows in a pale cast.. except for the red lips… the full lips that seem to beg for a kiss… lips that hint at a curl of wistful loss.

Lub… dub… lub… dub… the steady beat is louder in the empty chamber, slow and mournful in the pace that can be felt in an aching rhythm… A dark blue gemstone set into a delicate golden chain rests in the hollow of her slender throat… an equally dark gown hugs ample breasts before tucked into a waist narrow and supple… skirts flairing out over well rounded hips that promise to be fertile and soft to the touch. You are surprised at how tiny she seems in the sealed prison… alone and frajile seeming through the crystal that surrounds her.

Lub… dub… lub… dub…deep, vibrant even in it’s seconds long beat, you feel it in your bones… suddenly, startlingly, eyes gaze up at you! Deep, dark blue eyes that move from dazed through confusion to terror; the full red lips part in a silent gasp of a void… a slender hand rises up to press against the inside of the casket as eyes widen further in panic and a chest heaves for air that doesn’t seem to exist…

Lub… dub… lub… Your eyes snap open… a sharp gasp for air to fill empty lungs while you struggle out of your tangled blankets in your dark room; the sound of an autumn rain patters softly against a window pane… was it really a dream? A nightmare? Or… was it something more.

Dub… lub… dub… the slow, steady beat of a heart whispers in the back of your mind.

A few weeks later…

The bright mid-day sun glared off of the surface of the bloody snow that had been the sight of what could only be called a slaughter. It wasn’t the first one, but it was the last one that had occurred just the day before. About a dozen sheep and a ram had escaped their pin on the farm back in the low-lands and a father and son had gone up into the mountain paths to retrieve them. It should have been a fairly simple process, but after the 4th such “accident” that had let sheep slip the leash, so to speak, the town’s mayor had asked for help to either find the sheep raider or to simply stop the sheep… and farmers… from disappearing. With one of the community’s two major income producers at risk at an already tight time at the end of a bitter winter, the reward was just too good to refuse…

And so, here you are, with your companions, standing nearly knee deep in fresh snow and looking down at the remains of a sheep… and a 14 year old boy… and not so much as a single clue to date about who… or what is plaguing the once sleepy town below.

Suddenly, bloody snow erupts before you!

Well, if you’ve gotten this far, maybe you’ll go a little further?

I’m looking for 4 to 6 reliable players for a homebrewed campaign that begins with… you guessed it… “kill the bad-guy, rescue the girl, save the world.” Kinda story. Or, at least in the first act. What happens beyond that… well, not even the Shadow knows… mu-ha-ha-ha

I would like a game with a traditional/classic vibe; with a fairly well balanced mix of character types and classes. In particular, I’m looking to fill, but not requiring:
*A Skill Monkey
* A Divine Spellcaster
* An Arcane Spellcaster
* A melee specialist
*A rranged or melee specialist
And whatever else may fit the tale that I want to spin.

Again, these are preferred, but not required character types and will be more likely to lead to a successful campaign than a bunch of fighters and a spellcaster, for example. The party will very likely need someone who can get past locks and avoid setting off... unpleasant situations.

Other roles will be considered, but my primary interest is party balance and survivability within the game. I do not set out to kill characters or parties, but I intend to challenge them (and you) in both wits and strength of arms. Sometimes, the dice-gods are fickle and even the best of characters fall due to that.

Warnings and considerations.
While combat will occur in the progression of the game, it isn’t the focus of the story; characters should be able to deal with non-combat related encounters. IE: creating a character who’s only real talent is fighting may find themselves not doing very much for long stretches of time. So, being able to think and emply a tactical mindset will do you well.

I love, love, love games that include something personal to the characters. So, if you give me something to work with as a sub-plot, your chances of getting in increase dramatically. Looking for a long lost twin? Need to right a wrong done to your family? A life’s ambition to discover a lost dwarven city? Pursuing a lost love? Anything at all that will give me the opportunity to add to the story will get you big brownie points.

The Brawler, gun-slinger, pscionist )Including occult classes) and summoner classes are on the restricted list. Eastern classes will be on a case by case basis, but I give fair warning that improving weapons and/or armor for these classes may not appear during the course of the game unless the characters get really, really creative and lucky

Rogue Talents: The Trap Finder talent for rogues will not be an acceptable talent. I feel this is a cop-out of what makes a rogue a rogue; the freedom to decide when to look for a trap and the development of the wisdom of knowing when to do so.

Deities: Galarian deities will be the default.

As a general rule, I really, really, really dislike anti-social or loner character types. Characters don’t have to love being part of a group, but characters who have a vibe of “I really don’t want to be part of this bunch.” Or “I’m blessing you pee-on’s with my mere presence.” Will not help you to get into the game; it'll more likely get you rejected.

Sexual content will be up to the players. If you want to visit a house of ill repute or seduce a barmaid (or a bartender for that matter), I’ll be happy to accomidate you, but it’ll be in a side thread so play isn’t bogged down by constant thumping of headboards. IF sexual content is general or moves the plot along, it may appear in the main IC thread.

Rape, or non-consent scenes will not be part of this game. Having said that, charm spells, manipulation and out and out seduction may appear. The actual results of which will be totally up to the player's interest in the attempt... but sometimes, giving in may be both fun and informative. ;)

The Unbreakable Rules

I have 3 rules that will not be broken. If I’m running, it’s an automatic PC killer and if I’m playing, I simply walk away. They shouldn’t have to be said, but I’ve found on E that sometimes you still have to say them.

1.   No PC shall cause the death of another PC. In a nutshell, if you attack another PC with the intent to kill or that may result in the death of that PC, game over. This applies to familiars and companions as well. There simply isn’t any reason for it. If you put another PC into a situation that the only response is to attack, it’s the same thing. It’s fine to have disagreements, it’s ok to throw a punch and beat the living crap out of each other… but if a weapon comes out… game over.
2.   No PC shall steal from another PC. This is fairly simple. You don’t steal from another PC. If you want something that they have, work it out. If you want to “secretly” make money off of them by using what they have… too bad. I’ve seen long term groups fall apart over this.
3.    No PC shall betray or otherwise compromise A PC, or Party by acting against the PC or Party in a manner that  threatens the party. This includes turning the PC over for a reward, giving aid to the enemy in combat, passing information on to an informant and so on. Again, seen long term groups fall apart over it and it’s not worth the little bit of perceived drama.

Character Creation Guidelines

* Starting level: 5th.
* Using the 18/8 system. Every character has an 18 ability score and an 8 ability score. The 18 may not be increased by racial modifiers. Roll 4D6 and drop lowest for the remaining 4 scores.
* Max HP at 1st, 1/2+1 HP+con for each level after 1st.
* Background Skills will be allowed.
* Starting Gold: 10,500 gp, No single item may cost more than 5,000 gp
* 2 traits. A drawback is allowed for an additional trait, but the drawback must appear in the background and be played during the game.
* Only Paiso material and core races please. If someone simply must have a 3 PP item, it'll be handled on a case by case basis.
* No Evil alignments or characters that lean toward evil will be accepted.

Some notes about game play…

Pacing is often a complaint in group games in general and system games in particular. “Fast” is, to me, something of a misperception. It’s been my experience that a round of post in a week is not only fast, but a blazing pace for a group game on a forum. Realistically, I’ll be thrilled with 2 post in a 10 day period. So, a post a week is the goal.

The #1 cause for game failure is player drop-outs. So, I'm asking that you be ready to devote yourself to staying in the game if you want in. It is neither fair to your fellow players or the GM to begin a game and just disappear. We all understand that RL happens, but if you aren't getting the game that you want, the only way to fix it is to talk to me. I'm here to give you a game that you want to play and will enjoy; I can only do that if we communicate with each other. If RL is giving you trouble, let me know, we all hit that from time to time.

Never Assume that you're seeing everything or that everything is always what it seems to be. Ask questions and watch for what isn't said.

In order to try to streamline encounters, initiative will be used only as a means to determine when PC’s and NPC’s act in a round. I know that some players respond faster than others, so I’ll simply say “One character may act.” Or “two characters may act,” as appropriate and whoever posts first goes first. Then, the NPC’s will act and the next “One player may act.” And so on. It is my hope that by doing things this way, slower players will have a little more time to get in their actions. If this doesn’t work, anyone who doesn’t post an action will be NPCed by me and I offer no promises of what such actions might be or the concequences of those actions.

If you have questions, ASK them! You are much more likely to find an answer if you ask a question than if you don't.

A final note:

Your actual gender and the gender that you wish to play will have no bearing on the selection process. If you’re male and want to play female, female and want to play male or a goldfish wanting to play a shark, it makes no difference to me. I will select the characters based on what will fit the story and group dynamic best with particular emphasis on the requirements of the game. Whatever will offer the best chance of a successful game in all regards. With this in mind, I will be reluctant to accept transgender characters mainly because the focus for most of these types of characters is sexual rather than adventure. However, I may make an exception for  characters that prove the exception to the rule.

I am aware that the majority of players in fantasy system games prefer to play female characters. My preference is for a roughly balanced mix just to allow for diversity. If someone offers a character that I know will not be accepted, I’ll notify the player and ask for a different submission. If, at the end of the recruitment phase there aren’t enough characters to make the game viable, I’ll announce that and ask for new submissions. I can run with as few as 4, but prefer 5 to 6 for the added variety of abilities.

So, anyone interested?

Hi Blinkin... I'm interested, if the group works out and the player concept fits. I'll PM a character idea that's low-drama with hopefully a couple interesting hooks to make it fun.

Question; why are brawlers banned? I've never seen that before.

I mean, Psionics are 3rd party so yea. Summoners slow down play alot and can be badly broken in various way so its semicommon to ban them and almost universal to ban Synthesists. Gunslingers have crazy damage potential and some people feel they dont fit fantasy settings.  But I cant think of why Brawlers would be banned and say, Monks or Fighters wouldnt depending on the objection.

Blinkin

I've seen, out of 4 brawler characters, 3 of them were used to create stronger versions of other classes, so I tend to see them as an excellent way to game the system rather than the intended use that the designers may of  intended. So, it's just easier for me to not allow the class since it doesn't seem to be all that much of a popular class anyway.

Mhm. Its a favourite of mine! I love punching things but dont like the prancy stuff monks get up to. Simple. I CAST FIST! ;D I mean, whats more metal than punching a dragon to death?

But fair enough if you dont want to deal with it.

Is this set in Golarion, or if not, are we allowed to invent deities, nations and such for our backgrounds?

Also I doth declare my interest.  ;)

Blinkin

I'll haggle with you over a brawler. Although it's taking the food from my children's mouths! (It's a bad example of the classic bazaar merchant haggling over the price of something... ever seen those movies?)

Give me a pure brawler, someone who hits things and bust up bars and I'll consider it. And, I'm kidding about the bar thing, if you don't know how to start a bar fight, you have no business being a brawler. ;)

The world isn't Galarian, but it's similar. You can make up nations and locations, but to keep things from blowing my mind, we'll use the standard Galarian patheon.. I don't have any spacial understanding of Galarian; I've never seen the maps and figuring out what's next to what and where things are, I'm using my own map in my head.

Like to submit for this.   Have a idea for a human sorceress 'Verdant' bloodline.   Chaotic Good

Chava 'of the green',  is a human sorceress who is of the verdant bloodline.   A champion of life,  in a harsh world.   With good heart and infused with the power of life.  Chava chooses to do good,  to help those in need, rescue those that need rescuing.   Fighting the forces of evil and their ilk.   Still like life itself,  chaos in nature, as the tapestry is spun with each breath taken.   Chaotic is part of her being.

Brash, yet the wisdom of a woman.  Life infuses her and gives life abundant.   Sacred is such to Chava.   Yet opposed and hated is those of the path of necromancy.   Those that would make a mockery of life.  Opposed to such practitioners of dark magic.  She will root out such taints that spout.

Yet drawn to a path of heroic deeds, in the circle of life.  No life is not complete unless one steps into the circle and becomes the circle.   An in order to complete the circle of life.  She must find her other half.   He who shall hold her heart,  that she may give him the essence of herself with baring his children.   Only such will complete the circle of her life.

Blinkin

Well, I don't think that I've ever seen a sorcerer with that bloodline, so I'll have to look it up;  she sounds like a good start though. :)

New question! Is this going to take place mostly in a cold environment? The OP mentions snow, but are we going to stay up there or move south eventually?

Blinkin

No, it'll take place in all climates if it goes that far. I just like starting out in cold because I love snow. ;)

And, it's always fasenating seeing who either dismisses or doesn't catch the fact that it starts in the cold... chain mail bakini anyone?

The class itself? Unless you go hog wild on min/maxing, it would depend on the character offered.

So the sorcerer verdant bloodline is ok?  It is a pazio bloodline not a 3PP.

Blinkin

As with the warpriest, as long as you don't go hog wild with the min/max thing, I don't see a problem.

When you say psions are disallowed, while they're already 3rd party material, Paizo does have the classes from Occult Adventures: kineticists, occultists, mediums, spiritualists, mesmerists, and psychics. Would these classes be allowed or disallowed?

With regards to gunslingers, would the bolt ace archetype (an archetype which swaps out guns in favor of crossbows, while keeping the gunslinger chassis) be banned as well?

Elven Sex Goddess

This is what I rolled for the other 4 stats.  Rolling 4 and dropping the lowest.

As can see the 8 went into INT (Not book learned)   the 18 into CHR  (sorcerer).   Now I placed the 15 in CON (hardy fortitude for survival) the 13 in wisdom,  one 11 in DEX and added the +1 4th level bump (chasing the farm animals). Finally  put the other 11 in STR and added the +2 racial bump for human into it. (To represent life on a farm growing up. The physical nature being farm strong)  I rather have a sense of balance with those four stats instead of trying to min and gain another 18.

If acceptable, I will continue working on creating the sheet.

Anything that uses spell like effects that aren't linked to either a devine or arcane spell list isn't going to work. I haven't looked at any of those classes specifically, so if they use spells from a spell list, I'll consider them; it'll depend on what you want to do with it.

I'll have to look at the archetype, but I'm edging toward a no. Let me look at it though and I'll get back to you on it. I want to be fair, but I've already had 2 inquiries in PM asking about classes that I've restricted and with the brawler above, this is now 4 out of 6 classes suggested.

But, I will admit that my bias against gun-slingers is more the fact that I have never believed that firearms have any place in a fantasy world than the class itself... again, let me look at it before I rule.

That set up is fine. I'm not opposed to using your bonus mods to give you another high stat, I just didn't want to see a 20 somewhere. But, the scores are fine and look pretty balanced to me. So, go on and see what you can do with it.

Kineticists work more like warlocks from 3.5 than anything else. They have at will powers, and they can boost their effects by accepting "burn", nonlethal damage that cannot be healed any other way than a full night's rest. They're limited to one element (air, aether, earth, fire, void, water, wood) until they hit 7th level.

The remaining classes are neither divine nor arcane, but a third type of magic, psychic. They do have fixed spell lists, and use spell slots instead of power points. Some have archetypes that switch their spellcasting to arcane or divine.

Fair warning, the Occult Adventures base classes other than the psychic, the mesmerist, and maybe the spiritualist rank among the most complicated in the game.

Generally Occult Adventures leans more towards Penny Dreadful and Lovecraft than it does X-men.

I selected the traits: Looking for Work, Iron Liver, and Auspicious Tattoo with the Drawback: Mark of Slavery.

Senga was, in her early childhood, made the spoils of war by a raider tribe.  She has little memory of these years, but it was clear when the camp was destroyed that the girl was strong and healthy, but developmentally stunted.  An unlikely foster parent took her in-- a veteran named Wilhem Stromhurst, who had suffered a wounded knee in the campaign and declared that "he had no wife, so a moppet to clean up the place would do him good."

Wilhem was well-meaning, but an ill-equipped role model, but the girl took to her new life as well as could be expected-- and though she didn't speak until what's thought to be her tenth or eleventh year, she was physically capable and helped him manage a modest farm... until he gave that up in favor of moonshining and gambling full-time.  She managed for years, through attempts at a more stable environment, to keep the grizzled veteran from drinking himself to death, but the end was inevitable... and as a teenager, Senga set out on her own, making his shack on the outskirts of town her home and doing carpentry and occasional smithing work to get by.

Generally, she was shunned by others her age.  She had no knowledge of how to get along with boys except to try to beat them in sports-- where her surprising height and lean power gave her an intimidating advantage, shattering egos and scaring off all but the bravest, for whom her modest attractiveness was little incentive.  And clearly, she had no sense of how to integrate with other girls-- the only women she'd gotten to know were of the less-than-savory variety, and most had made off with savings or other commodities from her "uncle" after supply grew short.

Still, she found a niche among adventurers-- when volunteers were called for, the girl had no trouble 'passing' among the armed youth of the town, and her uncle's experience on the battlefield was one thing he taught her better than constructing a boat, a barrel, or a length of chain... she was sharp-eyed, quick to the draw, and relentless in defense of the town that barely acknowledged her as its own.  When opportunity arose, none stood between her and volunteering just because of her age or her sex-- she was gladly accepted to make patrols, stand against bandit gangs, or hunt down a beast spotted in the fields.  She even fell in with adventurers, gaining a reputation throughout the region as a competent blade... sure, no true dungeoneer, but one who would faithfully serve and expected only her fair share for the contribution.

Of late, she mingles about the town theater, her few travels having piqued an interest in exotic fare, songs, and languages where she manages the occasional pidgin speech.  She hasn't forgotten the initial years of being an outsider, but she harbors little grudge... she considers it her duty to serve, as fighting evil is a finer choice than a pint for keeping the darkness of her child-dreams away, though she reluctantly admits that drinking fire is, at times, the one refuge that keeps loneliness at bay... everyone is chums at a bar, and sometimes she manages to catch a flirtation or a pass as the nights grow long and the travelers and townsfolk get sodden with ale.  But she knows the trap of it... if she doesn't stay moving, she may get stuck in one of those kegs some day, and that would be a terrible fate.

Psychic Magic 101;

Psychic magic is basically treated as just another branch of magic by Paizo. The Psychic (class) is exactly analogue to the arcane Wizard/Sorc, it simply has its own spelllist with a bunch of new spells (things like psychic crush and mindscapes), and has Diciplies which define their method of accessing their powers and give several unique traits (similar to Bloodlines/schools).

As for Psychic Magic its self, it follows all the normal rules of magic. Its spontaneous, susceptible to antimagic and similar such things, can be used to make magic items, etc.

The only important difference is that they use different spell components. They dont use Somatic or Verbal spellbits. No chanting or waving of fingers, this makes them immune to silence and being tied up or holding things doesnt bother them. Instead they have Thought and Emotion components. Thought is explained as spellbits that require complex mental constructs and so require much greater degree of concentration, if they are forced to make a check they take something like -10 on the concentration roll. Emotion components are explained as spellbits that require a certain emotional context or state of mind, and so you cannot cast them if you are not in control of your emotions (the most common example is the effects of fear, though fascination, charm, and so on will also shut them down).

In practice, the Psychic is a interesting and novel utilitycaster that has serious offensive punch against sentient enemies (by shredding their minds) but lacks the offensive toolkit of arcane casters. They have some options for getting around their limitations, but these are generally pretty limited themselves.

For other options... the Spiritualist is a psychic version of a Summoner thats less broken but more complicated to play. The medium is bananas. The Occultist is a gish that uses tools as a source of spells. Differnt sorts of items give access to different Schools and provide some innate powers. They are werid and kinda neat, but not very powerful compared to things like a Magus. The Kinectiist is basically a Avatar style element bender, unlimited daily elemental blasts, but their chasis is seriously borked, most of their utility powers require them to lower their effective health permanently untill they rest, and they fall behind in damage to the point that some NPC classes give them a serious run for their money.

The real gem in my opinion is the Mesmerist, which is a grade-A mindfuckery-focused cha-based 6/9 psychic caster with a evil stare power that debuffs enemies and makes them take more damage and the like. They also get a the ability to program some life-saving tricks of buffs into allies to activate later, and a mental/debuff version of Lay of Hands that fixes conditions like Charmed or Panicked rather than healing damage.

They are almost as handy in a melee fight as a cleric, they have useful spells both for in combat and out, make *incredible* faces, will save your life with their tricks and condition removal and even when they run out of spells or cant get into melee, all they have to do is stare at your enemy to make the rest of the party much more effective.

While it may sound like psychic spellcasters basically get still and silent spell for free on every spell they cast, there is a really significant downside/balancing factor: emotion components are as common as verbal and somatic for divine and arcane spellcasting... and you can be cut off from using any spells with an emotion component as simply as an opponent using Intimidate to demoralize. Of course, opponents won't always know that demoralize shuts down psychic casters, especially if they wouldn't even be aware of the distinction between arcane and divine magic and psychic magic.

Chava grew up on a farm.  She is a farm girl born and raised.  Touched by the green.   Perhaps the reason for her shortcoming in intelligence.   Has set her on a path of adventuring and helping others while seeing the world.   It is her hope to find her mate as aforementioned.  To settle down and have a family farm.   To have the prattle of little feet underneath.    To pass on her knowledge and learning of her travels.

Ok, I've thought about the questions of the occult classes and gun-slinger archetype and I'm going to say no to both to both. If I start getting into archetypes to get around banned classes, then I'm as likely as not to see more request for archetypes of all of the classes that offer things and muddy the waters more. There are more than enough classes and options beyond the restricted classes to choose from that will do about the same things.

So far, the characters that I'm seeing look interesting and we'll see how it all shakes out.

ChaoticSky: are you going with the brawler idea? Would he or she be familiar around the tavern(s), or were you thinking a non local? And ESG, I'm not sure how my character could have met a sorceress unless they crossed paths on a prior adventure, but my character would be curious about anything that stands out above the norm

Something of note, The characters are adventurers; not from the area that the game will start in, but passing through when the latest news comes in of more lost herd animals and a farmer and his son haven't come back from trying to retrieve them.

The town isn't exactly small, but it's not a particularly large one either. It has a couple of respectable taverns and maybe an actual inn. While it's not exactly off of the beaten path, it's not on any of the major trade routes either. It has two main income producers,  Wool and a limited amount of apple brandy that's growing in both quality and value. Beyond this, some surrounding farms keeps the locals in produce and the usual stables. Overall, the area is moderately prosperous, but can't afford to lose a significant amount of the wool production, which seems to be happening fairly regularly over the last few months; during a particularly hard winter that's recently started to break.
