@Glyphstone: Up to two adjustments. It's written in the first post. You still can only to choose one of those per 3cr too, not that that should be an issue.

Ah, sorry. Max 3 different templates and max two CR +0 adjustments/specialization in given template/monsters.

Just to clarify, is the max level cohort we can take CR+LVL 23/MR5 or CR+LVL 20/MR5?

Also, do templates have to be added to the base creature before Class levels, or at any time during creation:

EG: I want to add power attack to my ghosts. Power attack requires strength 13. Ghosts have no strength, thus don't qualify for the feat. However... say I want to be able to use power attack while posessing a creature...

Can I add a couple of class levels to my base creature, which does have a Str score, take power attack, and then become a ghost, thus losing access to the feat while incorporeal, but gaining it back while possessing something with 13 Str or greater? Or do I have to apply the ghost template to my base creature, before selecting class levels?

If it seems complicated, you're overthinking it. It's pretty simple, and just like any other cohort. Ghosts have rules that cover everything I've talked about built in. They are just cohorts, same as any other.

I feel like this risks being confusing again, but here's my first draft trying to reexplain the ghosts.

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Pathfinder's rules for dancing are pretty mediocre. Dancing weapons can't posess enemies or benefit from teamwork feats, or make AoOs, or anything else that makes cohorts really useful.

The golems are not posessed by the ghosts. They are the ghosts. The ghost is a ghost of a golem.

The golem is the incorporeal form that wields the blade while it is out. Because it's incorporeal, it vanishes as soon as the blade posesses something. By flavor, this is the "spirit" of the sword, a spectral samurai manifested to wield it.

None of this uses stuff there isn't rules in place for. They are identical to any other cohort in both function, and potential power, with all the same advantages and disadvantages.

Honestly, rather than bend a bunch of stuff to fit, why not just create a custom monster?

You want an animated magic sword that has the following powers:

1) The ability to fight on it's own
2) The ability to be wielded by you as a sword
3) The ability to possess anyone else who wields the sword and make them fight

I think that should be easily manageable by just making an magic sword into an animated object, advancing it's HD, and giving it a few abilities. I can see the appeal of the whole construct ghost thing, but especially if you're going to have 6 of them floating around all the time, simpler is probably going to be better.

I'm working on statting something up. I'll post it when I'm done and you can see what you think. (Obviously you're free to do whatever you want, so take or leave my contributions however you like :))

I'm trying to figure out why the hell Hero Labs keeps calculating my monk as having Spell Resistance 110. Anybody know what's up? He's a twentieth level monk, so he's now an outsider, so I don't know if that matters or not.

Maybe some stuff to look at:

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/constructs/haunted-chain/

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/constructs/tome-of-horrors/

There's also a prestige class in the psionics book called the Telekinetic Weaponmaster that uses a weapon completely through telekinetics, could use something like that as a model for a sword that basically works on its own--or get a disembodied creature that uses that prestige class to fight.

Here's what I have for OOC stuff.

Name: Stephen Albright
Race/Ethnicity/Gender: Human / Caucausian / Cis-Male
Occupation: Corporate Accountant
Character: The Incredible Karazheem
Brief Description:
- Stephen Albright (Player): Stephen is a cog in the machine, a faceless but still important accountant within the massive bureaucracy of the interstellar mining consortium NovaStar. He's worked for NovaStar for years, slowly creeping his way up tiny increments in the corporate ladders from a record-keeping clerk to the accounting department.

- The Incredible Karazheem (Character): The Incredible Karazheem is everything Stephen wishes he could be – flashy, flamboyant, and creative. Where Stephen diligently and impersonally processes ore shipments and casualty reports from places he'll never see, Karazheem uses his magic and illusions to manipulate the world around him directly.

Reason why joined Iscardians (or played pathfinder VR): Stephen's life is boring, with a capital B. He's good at his job, and happy to keep doing it, but needs something more exciting than endless spreadsheets and numbers. He'll never hold a management position in his lifetime, but in the Iscardians, he has the freedom he can't get in real life. Since the death of his wife, he's immersed himself more and more in VR as an escape from the lonely drudgery of offline existence.

I really don't think they're that complicated. They're no different to anyone else's cohorts. Why wouldn't I want to make them just as good as any other cohort?  I can handle all the mechanical bits on my end anyway.

Maybe I haven't done a very good job of clarifying it, but I've only asked three very simple questions thus far:

Am I allowed to add the ghost template to a construct?(No)
Am I allowed to take class levels before applying templates?(pending)
What is the maximum allowed (combined)level for cohorts?(pending)

There's no rocket science here, folks. Not even any third party. Just a few really simple questions that got lost in the explanation.

Depends on the template:  http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/templates/

Inherited would be a no, acquired would be a yes.

But Zaer's probably flexible on some stuffs

Knarfy

I mean, personally, I don't intend to have my cohorts actually joining me in battle almost ever. They're around to cast spells I don't have access to and look pretty :P

Never the less, I'll leave you to it. :)

Also Ghost is an acquired template, so I don't see why not. I can't speak for Zaer, but I doubt he'll have an issue with it.

@Pockets: That definitely sounds like a bug. Are you getting your spell resistance from Diamond Soul? If so, you should have SR 30.

Thanks, that answers my template question.

Edited my post to include the other question I asked, but forgot about, since it seems to be much clearer than my previous efforts. I'm pretty confidnet cohorts go up to Lvl/CR 23, like a PC(with 3CR being from templates or monsters), just want to double check I read correctly.

Knarfy

I can answer that :)

You are correct. Total CR or 'level equivilency' caps at 23, with a max of 20 class levels.

Here ya go!

QuoteCohort can be 20th level (NPC or PC classes) and have same options for templates as players do (or be monster same fashion as players) and max mythic tier purchased is tier 5.

Sounds to me like everything is the same for cohorts as it is for players, aside from max mythic tier.
A&A

Yurie

I don't really have time tonight to put together her actual statistics, but will this suffice for now?

Name: Tsukiko Marzu
Race/Ethnicity/Gender: Asian/Japanese/Female
Occupation: Angry Old Rich Lady
Character: Sheet TBA Sidera Shianus
Real Life: Tsukiko hates you. She doesn't know you, but she probably hates you anyway. She's spent most of her time surrounded by syncophants and hangers-on and she's getting really, REALLY sick of it. She uses her time on Pathfinder to try to escape from the restrictive lifestyle she leads and to forget about her failing and aging body.
Pathfinder Character: Sidera is what you get if you turn a centaur into a sword-swinging magical girl. She's polite, cheerful, loves children and small creatures and generally gets along well with people. Sidera forms the backbone of Iscardian's cavalry forces alongside her (NPC) husband. More than a few would-be raiders have learned to fear the musical chime of Sidera's horseshoes.
Reason why she joined Iscardian (or played Pathfinder VR): At first, Tsukiko used the game to vent her frustrations away from the highly restrictive and constrained life she lived. After Iscardian was founded, however, she soon found herself in good company, including a few adults that were among the guild's members.
Biography (max 2-4 paragraphs): Born before the corporate takeover of the planet Earth, Tsukiko had the luck of getting married to an up-and-coming corporate CEO in what turned out to be a fortuitous match; she proved herself to be quite shrewd and clever, a good match for her ambitious husband. Unfortunately, living such a high profile life trapped her in a fishbowl, even as technology advanced faster and faster.

By the time she reached retirement age, she was living on Mars as the widowed matriarch of a large zaibatsu. Her children worked for her, as she owned the majority shares of the corporation. As she aged (having proved genetically incompatable with newly created anagathic drugs), she found herself surrounded by syncophants eagerly waiting for her to die. As such, she retreated further into the newly created deep-immersion VR, particularly a game an old friend of hers had introduced to her; Pathfinder.

In truth, Sidera is her second character. Tsukiko abandoned her first character after growing bored with playing him, remaking herself and spending a large chunk of money to grant herself an equivalent character in rank and level. Now that the game is ending, however, Tsukiko has no intention of playing in VR. She honestly hopes to die when the servers shut down. If only her friend hadn't died first...

Biography (Pathfinder) Sidera Shianus, The Stars In Splendor, is something of an anomoly when it comes to the centaurs of Golarion. While many of the centaurs are tribal and unsophisticated, Sidera's heard is modeled more after the human knightly orders complete with armor and proper sigils. Sidera herself was a foundling taken in by a group of knights hospitalier and was taught in the ways of the sword by her adoptive father. Since then, Sidera has proven herself a terrifying force to be reckoned with, combining her inherent supernatural bloodline with the equally preternatural style of swordplay. Her herd has slowly expanded, and Sidera herself has found a mate in a fellow foundling centaur Solarium, who had been trained as a wizard by a reclusive mystic hermit.

Yurie, that player is adorable. :D

Q to GM: which craft skills would I have to take to basically cover everything the MMO has to offer? While I can't place 20 in everything, Vikie should have learned everything for at least 1 point. Thus I need to know how many skillpoints will go into that. :D

English isn't my native language. I'm deeply rooted in a culture with significantly different (much more direct) communcation strategies than typical for the extremely polite british or canadian cultures, or the "optimistic" approach often used in the USA. Additionally, I'm not neurotypical in several ways, warping my perception and communication to an even further degree.

But: my english is JUST good enough to lull many readers into a false sense of security. Think of it as the communicative equivalent to "false friends words" which, while extremely similar in outward appearance in two languages, mean something slightly but importantly different. Like "I want to become a steak" makes perfect sense to a german... that still would prefer not to be butchered.

So please, if you perceive my words as rude, my intentions as unemotional or just weird: ask me. I'm not always successful in my attempts to correctly guess the fluff and embellishments needed for successful communication. Not in my native german tongue, much less so in english. Name: ???
Race/Ethnicity/Gender: Swedish/Male
Occupation: Corporate Drone Salary man
Character: Sheet TBA Shiryo Daikensei

Real Life: A true roleplayer to the extreme, it is rare for Shiryo to slip up and say anything out of character. However, his real life is a hideously dull deskjob, in a middling position with no family to go home to. It's hardly a surprise that he escapes reality to become Shiryo Daikensei, arguably the greatest sword saint(though others in the guild might beg to differ) in the entirety of Golgarion. One of most memorable slips was when he first realised he was trapped, his response being "OH, FUUUCK YESS!"

Pathfinder Character: Shiryo is an imposing monster, surrounded by the spirits of the dead. A collection of swords are sheathed about his form, each one containing the spirt of a particularly powerful warrior he has vanquished upon his travels. He lives for battle, and is typically most often to be found brooding in his dojo, awaiting the next raid attempt, dueling with his blades, or tending to the shrine in the stone garden. Shiryo is not an opponent that should be faced alone, with a well coordinated assault needed to overcome the plethora of abilities he's gathered over the years. Of particular note is his bladestorm ability, an opponent caught alone frequently vanquished in a single instant, as his blades' spirits manifest to tear them apart.

Reason why he joined Iscardian (or played Pathfinder VR): While he first seeked out the Iscardians in order to use the services of a certain legenday crafter to complete his spiritblades, the Iscardians proved the perfect home for Shiryo, the guild's collection of overpowered characters proving to be excellent company, the frequent raids providing a worthy challenge.

Biography (max 2-4 paragraphs): From what few rare times he has broken character, Shiryo's player leads a remarkably uninteresting life outside of the game. He has no real family to speak of, he works a middling desk job whose only real purpose is to pay for his addiction to VR, and he doesn't get out enough to have any real friends outside of those at the guild, let alone girlfriends. He's not exactly unatractive, but his people skills leave much to be desired, and frankly, the corporations have turned earth into a grey dystopian nightmare. Who wouldn't want to escape?

Okay, maybe that isn't strictly true... but it's his cover story, and he's sticking to it. XD

Correcting my previous statement on hedge magician: I worked the numbers the wrong way around. Basically it is:

4.4 mio * 3  = 13.2 mio
13.2 / 0.95 = 13.9 mio

So if Vikie uses the full 4.4 mio of a player, she can translate it into 13.2/13.9 mio worth of magical items. A full 0.7 mio more if using hedge magician.

An item that gives +1 to bluff and intimidate and +4 to diplomacy (the equivalent to extremely fashionable) costs less than 2k... So that's a nobrainer.

Um Zaer, what are the upper limits for custom artifacts? I take it's +6 to ability, what are the limits to the other things?

PS: see DMG p 282

what about the following limitations? According to the book: "Once you have a final cost figure, reduce that number if either of the following conditions applies"

Item is restricted to being used by those of a specific skill. (DMG)   90%
Item is restricted to being used by those of a specific class or alignment.  (DMG)   70%<- the elephant in the room

This could reduce cost of an item made by Vikie for a certain class or alignment to ~22% of it's market price.

For each million a player paid her, she could offer 2-3 mio in magical items and return, and still upgrade the workshop/castle by a further 1.5-2.5 mio.

Still good with you?

As mentioned the max level/CR of cohort is same as players. Basically cohort has same potential as players minus max mythic tier is 5 for them. Also your ghost can have power attack, cannot use it (nor any feat which requires to have power attack) unless it possess someone who meets feat's qualifications.

In regards templates; inherited templates your 'born' with and thus need take them first before any class levels or feats, skills etc. While acquired can come anytime and anypoint in your char's career.

What is the maximum allowed (combined)level for cohorts?(pending)

Unlimited, only limited by gold you will spend on them. You can have hundred level 20 mythic tier 5 cohorts if you can afford it. Char starting look good so add him in to charsheet section.

TheGlyphstone: The Incredible Karazheem looks good :). Add him in charsheet thread.

Yurie: Char sounds interesting, albeit she needs be over 100 years old to pre-date corporation take over as it happened historically around after 2017 and now it is 2117. So if she was born in 2000 then she is 117 years old (which is possible even if she is immune to most potent anti-age drugs but medical discoveries and medicines had improved human lifespan significantly, more to rich people). Add her in to charsheet section and do find pic for your MMO char :).

Krys: I would allow 3.5 edition feat called 'Jack of All Trades' in form that it allows treat you trained in all skills so long you have no ranks in it (basically get +3 bonus for being trained and then stat bonus). It would cover everything profession, performance and crafting wise (and as we use background skills as well, all forms of artistic pursuits and such as well). It would not make you good as dedicated crafter would be, but with your int mod you easily get +20 modifiers on them anyway and blow up anyone professional off the water unless they optimize as well and invest ranks in.

In the magic item calculations and such on restricting them on class/alignment, I would allow it. It's cheesy but that's sort cheese what I expect from dedicated high optimized MMO crafter :P.

Krys

Soo, I'd say then: guildies geht their magical equipment from Vikie at 3/9= 1/3 the price, and the the 1/9 she doesn't need goes into the workshop, the layer, and if there is enough left, into construct based defenses.

Meaning: you need a 9k item, give me 3k and out of those 1k will be invested into the castle still. :D

And here is the OOC thread, also first post has link to IC thread! So start write yourselves in, but do note in charsheet section more details you give to me, that more I get to work with in regards the char, minions and cohorts. I know stuff is still in the air regards gear, gp spend on guildhall but we have general consensus of it already (it's more matter of finer details). So considering it can take couple more days to get char completed you can also spend it on writing IC interaction and 'get inside' the head of the char.

Do remember that your still in MMO and it has all MMO cliches and standards like world chats and menu screens and stat screens etc. Everyone has 'chip inside their heads' which allows access internet and connect to VR and able see others menu screens thanks sort 'shared illusion/program'. Basically able see internet menu screens in RL without needing traditional computer screen (as image of said screen is painted directly to your visual sensors basically, albeit to sink to VR you need enter comatose state as it pulls mind deeper focus).

There is stuff as adjustments for sensations in VR (you can heigthen or muffle sensations much as you want and even in VR some sensations haven't been included in same detail as in RL and 'ghost sensations' from real body felt in VR are possible).

Anyways let the fun to begin. The minions/cohorts will follow personality programming (if any) but they are like in overlord; sort of lifeless, completely obedient and clearly NPC's in a game. Some RL androids have much more advanced behavior but MMO's do not spend cash for 'perfect AI behavior' as it costs fortunes for even single individual android.

Snake

I'd think they'd be more like the Overlord type. they start to show sentience and emotions fairly quickly though.

I"ve got mine made. An Advanced Succubus Sorcerer 12 with 5 mythic tiers and geared toward support/battlefield control :3

Krys

I finally managed to do my skills. 540 points and I'm still short a few. :D Well... it will work out. Next: legendary items, magical items, and followers. Yay, fun.

PS as usual: anyone taking a look for mistakes or glaring holes is very welcome. This char is roughly an order of magnitude outside of my comfort zone / experience.

Lockepick

I assume the discounts from Alignment/Class/etc are not actually being applied to the final cost because of how Pathfinder magic item creation works over DnD? ie: With all of Vikie's options, none of it applies to the cost of expensive material components of spells being used?
Like what you see? I am currently looking for new plots!

Detailed List of O/Os and Plot Seeds

All of my image links were previously photobucket and broken -- I'm fixing them as I use the avatars again, or for current games. Please let me know if there is something that needs updating!

Zaer Darkwail

But you can ignore spell component costs if you got insane spellcraft levels (it increases daily spellcraft check by +5 per missing spell you do not cast). Also if you get grand magica effect which grants a wish once per day (which can cast any spell up to CL 40 and produce materials etc) and give 100,000gp per month as material resources for crafting or plain gold to every PC (considering amount gold Viki could get with giving discounts to everyone it's possible to spend 5,000,000gp for this feature), so spell component costs should be not a thing possibly.

Anyways, details on your cohorts please and pics as well as I may use pics refer who is talking and such in given scenes.
