Men in general judge more by the sense of sight than by that of touch, because everyone can see but few can test by feeling. Everyone sees what you seem to be, few know what you really are; and those few do not dare take a stand against the general opinion. Therefore it is unnecessary to have all the qualities I have enumerated, but it is very necessary to appear to have them. And I shall dare to say this also, that to have them and always observe them is injurious, and that to appear to have them is useful; to appear merciful, faithful, humane, religious, upright, and be so, but with a mind so framed that should you require not to be so, you may be able and know how to change to the opposite.

I gave up the 10 foot increased range of the composite shortbow over regular shortbow (no added damage 'cause it was +0) for a saddle and saddlebags for my noble mule. Also got the cash money for a longsword out of it, so that's nice. Guys, I am a knight in the making :P

I would answer that but I am too distracted by your avatar to think of a response.

Vergil Tanner

Eh, to get a decent horse and saddle, I'd need a good 80 more GP. Maybe 30, if I sold my Healing Potion. But since they're going underground in the first part of the AP, I don't think he'll need a horse...so I'll just buy one for him when he leaves, loaded down with swag. XD

As long as you can walk at 30', you can get along without a horse, I think. Exploration isn't something you're meant to do at top speed. It's more about the ability to transport survival gear and food and stuff. And if you can't be self-sufficient, that just means the druid and the barbarian will laugh at you before feeding you some fresh rabbit.
If you're such an iconoclast, where were you when we trashed Constantinople?

yeah feed your pet cleric well ._. she'll heal you in return :-)

Vergil Tanner

And you feed your Magus well! That way, when the Black Blade starts whispering for your blood in the middle of the night, he might be able to resist... ;)

Alright, that's... a shit-ton of characters. I didn't expect this much interest. Just for my own sanity I'm going to go ahead and close of submissions now. And I'm sorry, but not everyone can play! But I'm always stewing pathfinder ideas in my head so who knows, might be another oen coming up sooner or later.

Vergil Tanner

Well fingers crossed that Talan gets in! I've been craving Kingmaker for a while - or something similar - and I have, like, six weeks of holiday to kill somehow. XD
I'm also super stoked to play my first Spellcasting class. :D XD

Dude, if I had six weeks with a hot girl in a foreign land, I wouldn't be here thinking about gnome butts, let me tell you that.

I'd be somewhere else thinking about gnome butts.

Vergil Tanner

Well. The problem is that A) I don't have all that much money at the moment, B) I hate flying for any length of time, C) alas, my girlfriend only has one week off at the end of January, so I largely can only see her for any extended period of time at the weekends. So I need things to do in the meantime, and one of those is DnD. ;) :P

Question:

A) Are Prestige Classes worth it? I was eyeing Eldritch Knight as a possible development for my Magus at some point.

B) How the fuck do they work? Do you take a level in the Prestige Class instead of a level in Magus?

I am going on a cruise this year so this is what I'll be doing on the sundeck while sipping mojitos. Thanks Chula but mostly thank you Jazzy and Bibliophilia.  8-)

Thank you for taking us all into consideration, Chula! It's been fun, regardless of who ends up in the game.

They're basically just a kind of multiclassing, so yes, you take a level in the prestige class instead of Magus.

In 3/3.5E D&D, prestige classes were a really big deal, but Pathfinder has done a very good job of adding power, flavour and flexibility to the base classes, especially using archetypes, that they're not nearly as important as they used to be. I don't think I'll take one with Sophia, for example (although there is a voice telling me "you're a barbarian with good Charisma! Raaaaage propheeeeeeet!"), because Scarred Rager is just such a cool archetype as it is.

I definitely wouldn't recommend Eldritch Knight for a Magus. You don't progress any of your Magus abilities other than spellcasting, so no improvement to your arcane pool or your special sword thingy. It's better for straight fighter/wizard or fighter/sorcerer builds. Magus is already a melee/spellcasting hybrid.

Aaaah. See, that's what I was thinking, but I was just making sure since...well, relatively speaking, I am definitely a Pathfinder / DnD newb. So I still have a lot to learn, and there's no shame in asking people who know more than you! :D

The Rage Prophet has tempted me on more than one occasion, but I also did notice that doesn't grant additional rage time which was a little bit of a bummer.

Edit: Admittedly, you can, but only by sacrificing spells slots!
