I know pretty much the dictionary definition of it (parts of the web not indexed by search engines). That could probably include secure content on sites that isn't accessible by search engine, folders blocked off using robots.txt etc. I haven't gone looking for any of the dodgy sites you hear about, nor do I ever intend to.

In today's world it just seems easier and simpler to keep away from sites and content that might give the wrong impression or cause trouble. I don't even Google search half the subjects I'm curious about anymore. I don't trust the internet, because there's little to no privacy to be found there and I assume everything is tracked.

The members only elliquiy forum parts are technically a part of the deep web :P

I'll assume OP's referring to Tor. I checked it out a while back out of curiosity. I found a few random sites there that are very likely, trying to scam people by selling allegedly rigged sports results, assassination services, etc. Also found a conspiracy discussion forum. After a while I got bored and didn't really feel like checking it out again.

I was however glad to find a wikileaks mirror there where people in countries with corrupt governments can hopefully report stuff without getting into trouble.

I quite like the idea of Tor and the fact that it can be used to bring down corrupt governments and expose all sorts of wrongdoings.  But I had a quick look around and quickly delete the browser off of my PC, because the onion is also a hive of guns, drugs, and child pornography.  Put that up to human nature, I guess.  The latter will be why the US government starts eventually cracking down on and disrupting the network, I expect.

I had Tor on my old pc and was going to install it, but I never fully did. Tor was said to be more secure, but if it was my business to figure out who was accessing that stuff, it's the likes of Tor I'd be paying attention to. I never had any interest in accessing any of that, but I want my internet to be as private as possible.

I heard sometime after that the traffic could be tracked. Whether it was all or some I don't know. Some sites including forums also block IPs from known Tor exit nodes, though I couldn't tell you which ones.

There are perfectly legitimate uses for using Tor to do things, but it's the illegitimate ones that are going to see it shut down.  Is what I was getting at!
