Territory (Recruiting)
« on: October 17, 2014, 12:10:20 PM »
I'm just a little curious if people might be interested in playing this idea I had. Please let me know what you think and expand if you have any suggestions:

MARS 2091:, 17 massive cities were formed on the surface of the red planet, with the discovery of usable water on the surface and new dome technology that could ensure the protection of an entire city from the inhospitable weather Mars became the worlds new Frontier; A resource known as Kanite was discovered beneath the surface of Mars; a rock like substance that could retain a charge a million times more efficiently then any battery, allowing for the easy storage of all forms of renewable energies. With this new battery power, we could use the sun and wind on any planet and more easily rely on alternatives to oils and gases, and allow cities to become completely self sufficient allowing for self sustained power structures, and energy to ensure the growth of agriculture on what were once the most barren planets.

Mars 2147: All has fallen to ruin, while the colonization has reached as deep as pluto, these self sustaining colonies have been left without their mother planet, earth has fallen to civil war, while long ago a single government gained control of earth their selfish corruption had become apperent and the oligarchy in control of earth has begun losing its grip to Democratic reformists, as well as another more dangerous religious cult that has revealed itself and now spreads misery across earth, while none of this terror has reached the distant colonies, transport ships have stopped launching and many metals and resources that were only available on earth now no longer reach them, and while everyone in these cities can still live and survive, safety, and security are no longer readily available!

This is not a sci fi game, while its set in a sci fi world it is not the main point of this game, instead this is about resource control. Our characters live in the smallest of the 17 mars cities With the police force (Mainly enforcing law and order through the use of drones) have begun to shut down without resources from earth to fix them. Crime has begun to spring up almost as if it were never gone. With life becoming more barbaric in the cities as once common resources disappear the only people who can supply these resources to anyone but the elite of the city are criminals, and the wild few willing to face the cruel Martian world outside the domes to make it to one of the other 17 cities and get more.

Our Characters: None of you are hardened brutal monsters, crime didnt exist on Mars until a few months ago, you had a peaceful life, but now the city governments are hoarding the good things in life and the cities are quickly drying up, you have a way to supply one of these desires and life is hard for you too; money will keep you from the suffering like the rest.

Our players will be the crime bosses in our small city, and in the beginning resources will be plentiful, you wont need to conflict much with your fellow crime bosses, but as the existing resources are coveted things will become more stressful and as you grow the world and city will throw wrenches in your perfectly laid plans.

Rare or Unique Resources

Slavery and Prostitution- Machines perform endless tasks including fulfiilling lust, but as these machines break down without their intricate little parts from earth something needs to take their place, after all we didnt evolve machines just kept our beasts at bay.

Kanite- By far the most heavily regulated resource in Mars, this will be the hardest resource to get your hands on, dont expect any of it to enter your hands easily.

firearms- Machines make war, not men and firearms are all on drones now not on people.

Common Resources

People- There are plenty of people who have been screwed by the civil war, and a lower class is quickly coming into view as for the first time in centuries there is an unemployed population.

Terrans- The only currency accepted on all planets, and all cities in the solar system

VR- Virtual Reality was a common past time, and while connecting is still the best way to escape life, its now becoming more expensive and any new technology is ending up exlusively in the hands of the wealthy.

Drain- Street name for a powerful (and approved) drug, that has become popular with the poor

Vitalus- Once incredibly common Vitalus was an all in one age modifier claiming immortality (More like 500 years of life) its now drying up.

Drones- While its becoming harder and harder to find working drones, they did and could easily again consume modern life, stealing from some to fix others, finding parts in other cities and augmenting simpler drones for other work is all possible, outside of military grade models.

Scream- An incredibly dangerous, and illegal drug that when mixed with Vitalus creates near catatonic highs, without it, it takes on a great deal more risks, including waking nightmares/hallucinations and even death.

(Will accept ideas for more resources)

Police- Though greatly weakened and near powerless, people still turn to the few cops that weren't just trained to use drones to help them keep them safe, however with time and money they could be made more powerful, but that will take resources and attention.

Politics- The Mayor is the most powerful man in his little corner of the world, without contact from the outside world, and while hes been democratically elected from this point now that so much is down, elections may return to the hands of the powerful.

Transportation- Tubes connect all the cities but almost all are now damaged, and long parts of the way require you to face the elements and marauders who lurk in the world untouched by the domes.

Business- Business is losing substantial power as they rely on the machines so completely, there era is coming to an end but they were once the most powerful influences on all the planets and still contain substantial influence and resources.

(More of these could pop up as the city falls further into despair or begins to improve)

LOL thanks a lot wander.

I will be adding character sheets and conflict resolution if a large enough group shows more interest

I am interested in this.  I really enjoyed your alternative history game and this looks just as interesting if not more.

When you talk about marauders between cities do you just mean humans who live between the cities or are you thinking of adding different life forms?

Also with firearms are we able to take them off of old drones and adapt them to fit a human hand?

I would like to show my interest in this, and if I may, suggest two ideas for "Common Resources"

The first is a real simple one.

Goods: Fresh food, clean water, or manufactured goods such as clothing, medicine or other products. Whether clean water, either drawn from a source or purified of contaminants, fresh food processed by drones, or any number of other things ranging from clean unworn clothes to medicine to simple things such as soap, goods come in any number of shapes & sizes; all of them indispensable to the survival of humankind.

The second one is in the same vein:

Tools: It is always important to have the right tool, whether prying open a stuck panel with a crowbar or attaching fresh platting to a combat-drone with an arc welding torch. These tools were once easily purchased at any store, but now they're breaking down as are the machines that manufacture them.
