The first Astartes "season" was exactly how I envisioned Space Marines to be like.
Just these walking, nigh-unstoppable tanks, using both brute force as well as deadly skill to achieve their goals.

Looking forward to this

This is interesting

Cubicle 7 RPGs
The creators of the epic Wrath and Glory RPG have an exciting announcement – a Horus Heresy RPG is on the way from Cubicle 7. Here’s the pitch – the game opens with the infamous betrayal at Isstvan, after which you’re thrown straight into the maelstrom as Legionary Consuls leading a rag-tag warfleet bent on survival and vengeance.

Your first priority is to escape, harried by traitors bent on your destruction. But what then? How will you survive and regroup? How do you overcome the shock of betrayal and keep your forces supplied? Perhaps most importantly – who can you trust?

Your primary character is one of these Consuls, but you’ll also create a secondary character, such as a Naval commander from your fleet, a Remembrancer assigned to record your achievements, or an Iterator tasked with enlightening newly compliant worlds with the Imperial Truth. You’ll play these characters when their particular skills are required, or if your Consuls need to split up.

The game is expected in Spring 2026, and you’ll be able to pre-order it later this year. Fans of Warhammer: The Old World can also look forward to the imminent release of an RPG set in this specific time period, also from Cubicle 7.

I got way too excited seeing this thread. I'm new, hi, hello! And also relatively new to 40K. I tried to get into it a looong time ago, but it didn't really take. Reinvesting time within the last year, I've read/listened to a handful of books, sunk too many hours into Dark Tide, and even started painting some minis.

Great to see some WH nerds here. 🥰

The Horus Heresy game ^ sounds so interesting, I'm so excited.

Welcome to the franchise! It's honestly one of my favourite universes.

I used to do the tabletop in Uni (playing Tyranids), when I was younger and had more disposable income. That's... 10-15 years ago :P But I still read a lot of the books, play games (Warhammer Total War, Darktide and Space Marine 2), and eagerly write 40k roleplays whenever I get the chance :D

Thank you! I've put most of my energy for the franchise into the books, they're fantastic. I keep relistening to the Night Lord trilogy, though I'd say my favourite book is probably Betrayer.

Do you still have any of your minis? Even if you don't play as much or collect anymore, I'm sure they'd be lovely shelf pieces.

If I get approved I'd love to throw my bid in for a 40K RP. It was the first domino for me looking into RP sites, and finding Elliquiy.

40k RPGs are pretty thin on the ground, but there is a Black Crusade one that isn't long started.

Adepta Sororitas have my heart, though I do have a soft spot for the Astra Militarum.

A spiritu dominatus,
Domine, libra nos,
From the lightning and the tempest,
Our Emperor, deliver us.
From plague, temptation and war,
Our Emperor, deliver us,
From the scourge of the Kraken,
Our Emperor, deliver us.

From the blasphemy of the Fallen,
Our Emperor, deliver us,
From the begetting of daemons,
Our Emperor, deliver us,
From the curse of the mutant,
Our Emperor, deliver us,
A morte perpetua,
Domine, libra nos.
That thou wouldst bring them only death,
That thou shouldst spare none,
That thou shouldst pardon none
We beseech thee, destroy them.

I am completely obsessed with the setting. Can't afford tabletop though, and haven't played any 40k games outside of fanmade ones on Space Station 13. But I do love the books.

Slowly putting together a Drukhari army!

I really liked the Throne of Terra book series, and I think that strikes a great mood for 40k. That series is really dark, even when it avoid the most extreme examples of grimdarkery; the Imperium, and the Galaxy itself, is barely holding on by a thread. All of the inertia is for things to get worse and even those with the most conviction get worn down into cynicism or madness after decades of the struggle. But, still, it is possible for a few people willing to sacrifice everything to close the seam just a little bit, for just a little bit longer. A tiny candleflame of weak hope while you're running through a forest, the barest peak of a star through the treetops above you.

For more 'high adventure' stories, I also really liked playing the Iconoclaust route in Rogue Trader. Maybe, just maybe, there's a hint of hope in the far reaches of the Galaxy; maybe miracles can happen in those places too far away from the Imperium's core for all dissent to be snuffed out.

I'm also an Aeldariboo in all their forms, so feel free to discard my opinions entirely, lol.

My new headcaonon is that all tech priests who have undergone vocal enhancement and the language of Binaric Chant just sounds autotuned all to hell.
If you're searching the lines for a point, well you've probably missed it; there was never anything there in the first place.

One of the crusade things tech priests could make in their 9th edition codex was basically "Weaponized EDM"

Hmmm..
Not sure how game I am for a Heresy RP.
Darktide.. do they really need an official book? Any low tier game featuring imperial guard is effectively Darktide?

I am a jaded fan of GW. I still lap their stuff up like a thirsty dog. And I still complain about it afterwards. These days, I'm still there for the lore approach and the grim tinted specs. But I haven't made a full price GW purchase in years.

CopperLily

I'd very much contest that any low tier game with Guards is effectively Darktide. It has a very particular vibe to it.

Agreed. You could easily make a Imperial Guard-themed CoD-clone, and it would not be Darktide. There is just something about Darktide's focus on the lowest of the low, mixed with fun character builds, voice acting and dark humour that makes it stand out to me. Not to mention the frantic combat and excellent music.

That is fair. I was honestly.. after reading your response, trying to work out what tier I would place Darktide in. The Zealot and the Veteran are easy enough. They are tier 1 and 2, but then you have the ogryn and the psyker which could be tier 3/4.

Darktide W&G would have to remove all the aliens, mechanicus and higher tier non human (inc. space marines) and maybe focus in on the career development of the four core careers as opposed to a general wider development and tier progression.

Starting equipment would also be much more limited compared to W+G itself.

HairyHeretic

I haven't played W&G, and very little Darktide, but it has a very different feel to it than a normal IG type game. Reading the likes of the Gaunts Ghosts novels, that is more how I would imagine an IG focused game would go (ala Only War in the earlier edition). Darktide strikes me as more or less a Dark Heresy / =I= type game, with a very militant Inqusitor who sees every mission as one involving little stealth or investigation, and much shoot-them-all-and-let-the-God-Emperor-sort-them-out

Darktide you play an expendable strike team. There's lots of other moving parts in the background, the stealth/recon missions and full on battles involving the Imperial Guard are still happening just not the focus.
