Guild of Mages (Pathfinder)
« on: July 02, 2013, 12:59:43 AM »
Long ago, the world was rife with peril, dangerous monsters living in the countryside, and every day risking death for those that went outside the city walls.  It was in that time that the first Mage Guild was formed, with various spellcasters banding together to help out the populace.  While they were the first guild to do so, they were far from the last; dozens of other guilds sprang up to join in, some out of noble reasons and a desire to help others, some only wishing to line their own pockets.  Yet their existence shaped the world for centuries, quickly beating back the darkness and freeing the people from the constant fear of peril.

It's been several hundred years since then, and now, the guilds have become commonplace.  Even a small city has half a dozen different guilds, and any town with a name has at least one guild branch.  Jobs and desire for the guilds has started to become scarce, enough that some of the guilds have taken to fighting amongst each other in order to claim the jobs that do show up.

You, of course, belong to one of these guilds.  It's not an easy life, by far, but it's at least interesting, and as senior members, you've gotten quite a bit of money and control over what goes on.

And that's my new Pathfinder game.  As I mentioned, everyone is members of a mage guild, which means not all classes are available.  Specifically, character creation rules:

5d6 drop two lowest for attributes
Level 8, standard gold (33,000 GP)
Characters must be able to cast 3rd-level spells, or able to cast 2nd-level spells from two different classes.  (Note that this is flexible, and if you have an idea for a spellcasting character that doesn't fit the criteria, let me know and I may ok it anyway.)
Max HP for first level, roll and reroll 1's and 2's for every level after first.

I plan on having this a more sandbox-style game, without a set plotline for the characters (but perhaps large events that are worth paying attention to).  I don't know how many characters I can realistically run for, but I'll try to keep it as open as possible.

Yes indeed!  Well, if Nicci is part of this I pretty much have to join in.  Anticipating a magus as well, but may vary that.

Edit: my build largely depends upon whether a character I put together for another game gets in; will know by the 4th.  Based on that, I may tweak him for a replay or come up with something completely new.

I am interested in this game, and checking build possibilities.

EDIT: Would you be okay with a Synthesis Summoner / Oracle?

I'd like to also note my interest, thinking of a battle sorcerer, as I do enjoy the prospect of playing one in a game where most other people are likely to be squishy spellcasters.

I'd love to play. I'll be getting right on my character.

Edit: What do you mean by "dropping two lowest for attributes" though?

Edit 2: Nvm, I get it now.

*waves*  I believe I'd like to try and recap a dragon disciple idea from an older game.  That said, if no one else wants to play divine... *Looks around, had someone said oracle earlier?*

Just to be clear for anyone else, it means you rol 5d6, then drop the two lowest dice so you're only taking 3d6; still generating a number between 3 and 18 but with a significant trend towards the higher numbers.

Sethala, are you allowing monster races or templates?

Monster templates and such will be on a case-by-case basis, so let me know what you're thinking (in general terms) first.

You would need to take 6 levels in wizard to get it, but it would work. You would have to take a feat to get martial weapons as well.

Should work.

Actually, I was thinking elven sorcerer 6/swiftblade 2. Racial weapon proficiencies.

Though actually now that I think about it, city-raised or chain fighter half-orc may be a better choice...

Elf is more cute! So adorables!

I do need a Master for my kitty. The sort of master that only gets some after I feel horny enough, and takes care of all of my food and lodging expenses. Along with being a good masseuse and knows how to cook properly for me.

Catgirl > fish girl.

True.  But the mermaids from Pirates of the Caribbean were not unsexy.

The how and where always seem like a bit of an issue though.
