I'm curious. I met people from many different countries on this wonderful forum, and I just want to know how many Italian people are here on Elliquiy, me being one.
It is "Torment". It is that which draws all tormented souls to you. The flesh knows it suffers, even when the mind has forgotten. And so you wear the rune always.

Does half-Italian count?  I'm Calabrese on my dad's side of the family.

I think the proper term is ElliquItaly!

P.S.  'm a Mick on Mom's side.  If you have to ask what a Mick is, you're not Irish! XD

Half Italian by descent. My dad’s family emigrated from Southern Italy in the 1950s.

Interestingly Mum was born in England and though she had some interesting mixes in her ancestry, we assumed she had no Italian.

About a decade or so ago I did a deep dive into her family tree and figured out that her ancestors had emigrated to England from Northern Italy. That was several hundred years ago though so I don’t know if it officially counts, but we like to joke that Dad’s ancestors probably worked for Mum’s ancestors 😂

Yeah my Nonno and Nanna came from there about the same time.  I'd like to think I got the best from both families, could speak and read Irish and Italian when I was young, the gorgeous red hair from Ireland and the cooking skills from my Nanna. Sadly I also got the ability to curse creatively from my Gran and even more sadly my ability to speak Gaelic and Italian faded as I went to school.  Still know a bit, but not enough to be really useful anymore.

Weirdly enough, I can still read Italian!  Go figure!

Haha same. I can read Italian pretty well, and if I listen really carefully I can pick up what someone else is saying, but I can’t speak it all that much at all.

But I grew up on a diet of old Sicilian movies and can recite the dialogue word for word. Go figure haha

Us grandkids have a running joke about our 'mother tongues'.  We all have half-arsed comprehension of either Gaelic or Italian depending on the side of the family. (I'm the only one who's a full mix of both cultures)

We all kind of struggle if the old folks speak just Gaelic or Italian (depending on the side obviously).  All the old folks are fluent in English, but sometimes they speak a pidgin of Gaelic and English we call Gaelish, and Nonno and Nanna do the same with Italian and English which we call Engtalian!

As long as there are a couple of English words thrown in, we can always parse out what they're saying.

I still have no idea how Gran and Nonna understand each other when they're talking in English then throw in an Italian or Gaelic word BAHAHAHA!
