This is a roleplay idea I've been tinkering with a lot lately. I'm leaning towards something along the lines of a modern day mad men meets house of lies with elements of eyes wide shut and yes 50 shades of grey for fans of that thrown in. If you're not at all familiar with the erotic thriller genre then I recommend you take a look at the wikipedia entry, it offers a pretty sparse definition of what an erotic thriller is, though a respectable listing of the works under the genre.
The erotic thriller is a film and literary sub-genre which consists of a mixture between erotica and thriller. The genre increased in North American popularity from the mid-1980s through the early 1990s, before declining in marketability.
Erotic Thrillers seem to all have some common themes to them. There seems to be a general tone of cat and mouse whether it is a dom entering the life of a sub and gradually altering their life in some significant way for better or for worse. Mostly the latter, though with thrillers you can never tell just who is playing who. Going in I'll probably need a co-gm to assist me with the undertaking of this roleplay, I don't see myself updating at a daily rate with my work schedule and all. With no further ado, allow me to introduce you to the outline of the roleplay.
Suspenseful turns of plot are also very common. Erotic thrillers also tend to probe at society's imposed morality in some way. Cheating(almost always), Manipulation, Objectification, Hedonistic behavior, General Cruelty/Disregard for anothers humanity, Enslavement, Racism, Sexism, that sort of thing. If that's not your cup of tea then I suggest you find another roleplay. This will be a roleplay aimed for people who aren't afraid to explore the ugly underside of human nature, this is the corporate world after all. Though even with a game such as this, I'd prefer if people exercised some restraint and respect for boundaries. Even with edgy roleplays, there is such a thing as overstepping boundaries. I would suggest people list these boundaries when constructing their character sheet.
To keep things running smoothly, I'll need at least one intern character to play sub for every company specialist they're assigned to. The way the internship process works is that the last group of recruits to be hired by the company are tasked with overseeing the recruitment and orientation process of the new candidates. As is company tradition, the interns are treated like virtual property by their seniors. Keep in mind, most of the screening will occur outside office hours. For you see Muse has a bit of reputation. There are many whisperings in the corporate world about what really goes on after dark. Talk of nude parties and balls, occultism, secret societies, office orgies, hidden rooms dedicated to all types of roleplay and fetish. Of course no ones confirmed any of it, but that may change with this years recruits looking to establish themselves within the company.
So, how much do you want this job really?
The official story is based in an office building belonging to a fictional media conglomerate by the name of Muse Industries(Name pending). Muse is one of the foremost leaders in media based marketing . There job is to secure contracts, promote clients through various outlets and expand their reach of operations. It goes without saying that they are the best at what they do and they only accept the best within their ranks.
Surprisingly, Muse employs less than 400 in its operations and much fewer for top ranking position, to become one of the hand picked candidates to be employed by the company, one has to undergo one of the more intensive interview process, those who make it pass the interview process are then subjected to an even more strenuous internship trial. An internship that's been described as "thinly veiled indentured servitude under the guise corporate hazing. It is inhumane, it should be outlawed."
So why then would someone want to work for Muse? For one, the prestige that comes along with the brand. Like Apple or Harvard, having Muse in your resume is sort of like an industry badge of honor. It says more about the abilities of the individual than any letter of recommendation. Secondly and perhaps most important are the benefits. Access to premium healthcare services, a company issued credit card, 1st class travel accommodations, stock/bonus options and a starting six figure salary.
The key to Muse's success as a media marketing giant is in the way the company is organized. The team unit is largely responsible to its success.Team units consist of various specialists collaborating on a single project. One team might include; team leader functioning as a project manager, a business law expert, analysts, accountants, a sales rep, some type of visual communications expert and relations experts.
More teams are relying upon the use of so called "corporate hitmen" who oftentimes use questionable or unethical tactics to secure or establish contracts. Furthermore, one of the more important responsibilities of a team is to guide interns through the notoriously rigorous internship process. Characters will be given the choice to play one of the team specialists of an intern assigned to a specialist.
