Avernum: Escape from the Pit(pathfinder seeker thread)
« on: July 02, 2012, 08:31:17 PM »
Sethala and shadowfox89, I summon THEE!

Summer time means fun time! While I am still working and being awesome, I don't have the extra stress of school anymore for the next 3 months. Which means more naughty D&D here! Here is the basic premise of the story:

Quote

You have been banished to the underworld, never to see the light of day again.

The surface is ruled by the cruel Emperor Hawthorne, master of the Empire. All of the known lands are subject to his brutal command. Everyone who speaks out, who misbehaves, who doesn’t fit in is cast into the dark, volcanic pits of Avernum, far below the surface. There, you are expected to die, a victim of starvation, horrible monsters, or simple despair.

But not all of the Avernites have surrendered. With magic and steel, they are forging a new nation deep underground. You can join them and fight for safety. Or freedom. Or even, if you dare, revenge on the surface-worlders who tried to destroy you.

This isn't going to be your typical underdark, far from it. Not even going to have drows.

As for game stats:
- Level 4.
- 5d6 epic roll.
- No money and no starting gear. Since you are prisoners getting thrown into a portal of doom, so why would they allow you to keep your shinies? Which means no holy symbols or spellbooks. Magic down in the pit is rare and the few wizards who get thrown in and survive are going to be very well powerful because of it.
- No psionics.
- The weirder/sexier the race the better. All the more reason to throw you into Avernum and out of the human controlled surface world. The two main enemy races are catfolk and lizardfolk, so there is that.

I'd like to throw in my hat to show interest if this isn't exclusive to the two people you mentioned.  I'm a little shaky on races in Pathfinder, since I usually cop out and go human.  So, if you want weird/sexy races, I'd be perfectly willing to hear what you think would be cool and design a character around it.

Nephilim is the furry race of this world, as there better be at least one adorable kittengirl in this game!

Since naturally the native avernites are not at all pleased about that race and the lizardfolk, so racial tensions yay!

Sounds interesting.  Might try a gunslinger this time around, though I'm not sure how that would work with having no equipment to start with.  (Can I ask if there would be an opportunity to at least get mundane items early on?)

Nope. Going gunslinger would be amazingly difficult given the circumstances.

Hm, pity.  I'll have to think more about what character, then....

Afraid I've never used Pathfinder (really should have, but got stuck in DMing a 5 year 3.5 campaign, haven't gotten a chance to try unfamiliar systems in a while!), but I am very interested in some dirty D&D style fun!

I realize Genasi, Aasimar and Tieflings are maybe not terribly sexy (some of my favourite 'exotics'), so would be very interested what you consider sexy in an exotic race?

I am always up to helping people learn pathfinder here, so I can later blackmail them into DMing pathfinder games for me later. Muwhahahahaha!

Also goto the pathfinder srd to see which race you enjoy the most. Naturally exotic and sexy mean the same things in these regards. In avernum there were only three main races: human, lizardfolk, and the catfolk. I'm not going to be canonical so feel free to roam the rules.

Hrmm, how would you feel about a male Kitsune monk?  I can see them being shunned by humans and dumped into a pit, and they're pretty exotic.

Oh man, I used to play Exile and Avernum as shareware all the time as a kid, Never bought any of them so I only ever played the first 4th of each game :X

I remember making a party out of all the sexy female character portraits though. I suppose I could play as one of them. Basing my character on the art.

I could play my catgirl I had made for the first attempt of this game. Seeing as we have a monk already i'll probably change her to a cleric as a healer is always a good thing.

That's 5 players, and I only do a max of 4. Which means you all have to Dance Fight!

* AK47 starts to snap fingers and gets down on the dance floor, eying the others intimidatingly.

Does my experience with the games give me an advantage?

I care more about your ability to post nice long detailed posts, and do post at least once per day.

Also bribing me helps a lot.

Any particular style of dance, or do we freeform it?

And I'm a pretty regular poster.

Well seeing as I was last to the party I shall graciously bow out but if there is ever an opening I will be more than glad to fill the position.

I'll promise to call up on you when we have a drop first.

That settles that then.

I don't like it when people are strict on post length, but I do try to make my replies good. And I reply as soon as possible, I don't like it when games die or when people don't reply right away.

That was the week we installed and filled this with moist sand:

Frankly I was shocked that I got through that without passing out.

Only natural to not want to start a game after that much work. Then I just forgot about it, and with my other two games dead it is only proper to start fresh.

One charming devil (well, tiefling anyways) cleric coming up tonight!

Fair warning, going to be a bit of a man whore and casual slut... working on him later, but going to lean heavily towards neutral (not a particularly virtuous person in many respects, but he has his limits, and murder and the other big evils are still something he doesn't treat casually).
