What to do?
« on: May 01, 2012, 06:20:10 PM »
I know most everyone here has probably had issues with asshole neighbors at some time or another and I'm hoping maybe someone could help me figure out how to deal with mine, or more specifically the kids of these neighbors. Without resorting to the option that would satisfy me the most which is shooting all of them with an airsoft gun. Which I know won't solve anything.

The street I live on has something like six or seven buildings that each contain four town houses. I live in one of the end buildings on the end closest to the next building. I understand that kids like to run and play and do whatever, cause I ain't really all that much older. And I'd understand if the kids that decided to turn my backyard into their playground lived in one of the units in my building. But they don't. They live in the building next to us.

In the last two months, basically since the weather has gotten warm enough for parents to kick their kids out side for a few hours, they have torn up my mom's flower beds and left their toys and shit in our building's carport. My mom talked to one of the parents in the building, who said that she could talk to any of the parents if the kids got out of hand again. That was about a month ago.

Come to the last couple of weeks, the kids have started playing in our backyard again. And have gone as far as either throwing stuff or knocking on our back door. Tonight, my mom asked one of the parents who was actually sitting out back watching the kids if they could keep the kids out of our yard again. All she got was yelled at by the parent, when she was being rather calm to the parent.

We aren't loud neighbors. We don't go snooping in their business. We don't even cause much of a disturbance, as far as I'm aware, on the street. Is there anything we can do to get them to stop? Would calling the cops work or help? could they do anything? Cause I'm about ready to get camouflage and an airsoft gun and start taking pot shots at these little brats.

...And why can't you use an airsoft gun, again? Maybe from the roof. Aim for the legs. When/if the other parents complain -- "Oh, yeah, we've been having a real problem with wasps, lately. Just slather the kids with bug spray, theyll be fine. Probably."  :P

*Starlequin Inc. does not advocate violence against children or other small helpless creatures (with the exception of spiders, because fuck them) unless its for an exceptionally good cause. Or if it would be really, really funny.*

Any toys that get left in the carport, box up and stash in a closet for a month.  At the end of the month, hold a garage sale, minimum of 25c per toy.

Install large volume squirt gun under the peep-hole of the back door.  Douse anyone shorter than the peep hole if there's a knock.

Find plaster molds of human bones, preferably child-sized.  Bury them in the flower-beds that get torn up.

There must be some sort of homeowners' association where you live.  Would that help?  You might try calling childrens services or the police just to see if you have any options.  Understand that if you do report them things could backfire on you.  Parents who don't care about their children enough to teach them how to behave properly usually go the revenge route before anything else.

@Oniya - love those ideas.

As much as I like Oniya's ideas.. I think yours are better.. Wish I could get the neighbors to stop talking at 2 (goddamn) AM outside as they smoke.

To be fair, the first one is the only one I'd put the effort into doing.  O:)

Hehe. Yeah, Oniya's idea has merit.

The only reason I don't resort to the airsoft gun, Star, is because I would most likely be brought up on assault charges if I actually hit them.

The first one is a good idea, but it can be considered theft as well... So it is pretty much a gamble.

Uh, yeah, DL. Hence the absurd small print disclaimer at the bottom of my post. ::)

Can it really be considered theft if the kids leave the toys in someone's yard other than their own? And I'd say a $1 minimum per toy if you go with the yard sale.

Or just collect the toys as they are left in the yard and donate them to goodwill. I have a growing puppy that could use a nice soccer ball. ^_^

I'd say that toys left in my driveway/yard would be considered abandoned.  I'd get a trash bin to collect them and leave them out for collection.  If I had kids of my own I'd do that with the toys they refuse to pick up.

I would get a private property sign and call the police and have them escort you to talk to these parents. If their kids get hurt in your yard it's going to be you and your insurance they sue. Nip it in the bud. Once you have talked to them in front of the police, the next time they come in your yard uninvited, that is trespassing and they can be arrested.
