I've been gone from E for a long while but I've checked in a few times in the last few weeks and I have to say I'm surprised that I haven't really come across anyone looking to game in the Hellaverse - the setting for Hazbin Hotel (Amazon Prime animated show) and Helluva Boss (YouTube animated show)

The sister shows have been doing a pretty good job fleshing out the land of Hell between the two of them. The feel for the shows is very adult but they also have a good story going so I think a lot of Elloquians would enjoy it one way or another.

I was originally hoping to join in with something at least partially established but I am more than happy to actively GM (or Co-GM) something if anyone is interested.

While Hazbin is the more popular show, I actually prefer the gritty feel of Helluva for a small-group game to GM.  I absolutely expect a lot of crossover.

I would like to bring OCs into the hellaverse but I'm open to players playing canon characters if they feel capable and if they think they can stick around long-term so they don't let other players down. I can fill in whomever as GM otherwise, though extended interaction would be something we'd have to discuss.

Eh I don't know. I'll think more on this and update this first post as we go. I just need to see if anyone is interested and if they have any ideas they would like to share?

I was thinking it might be fun to have an OC-run organization that's competition for IMP? Or maybe something that goes directly against them (but isn't CHERUB because they are lame)

Hazbin-bassed game would have to tie into a grander storyline but it's not impossible.

I'd be super interested if this was a Hazbin-based game. :)

Same. If it were Hazbin, I'd be interested. I haven't really been motivated to watch Helluva.

Or even both Hazbin and Helluva. (Though, I also love canons, so it'd have to allow for people to play canons.)

Hazbin is fine by me I just don't have a game concept to actively GM at the moment so I would love to brainstorm on that.

Otherwise we could leave it more sandbox and let the players drive everything but those games tend to fizzle out very quickly from my experience.

What characters would you be interested in playing? Are there any other characters you're looking forward to interacting with?

Honestly, I think it depends. More casual roleplays depend quite a bit on interactions to keep things interesting and players bringing in new conflicts and challenges, but they can last relatively long if you manage to find the right group. Besides, you can plot and add new conflicts as you go along, so long as you remain in communication with the players so they know what's up and can give their thoughts.

As for characters, I'm currently interest in playing the likes of Alastor and Lucifer, maybe Zestial or Adam. But I can play just the one of the two fan favourites (Alastor or Lucifer, I don't mind which), if both of them seems a bit much. (Additionally, if you want us to audition for the canon character roles, I should be able to write something up and send it either here or PM.)

I do have some OCs as well, but they're probably going to do their own thing while sometimes interacting with everyone else, so they might be better for a sandbox type roleplay, or be better off as side characters/minor characters. I'm looking forward to interacting with quite a few of the canons. Especially Husk, Angel, Lute, Adam (maybe if this is set after season 1, we could have Sinner!Adam be a thing), Carmilla, Zestial, Velvette and Vox.

Sinner Adam would be a great plot driving force. I think I could probably play him myself.

One fan favorite character per player is a good policy, at least until we get a decent amount of players. (Having found your O/O thread, I have absolutely no doubt you'd make a great Alastor, for one. But I'm curious how you would play him )

Fair warning, if I play an OC in this she will probably be spider-based.

I'd love to play a canon character. If I had to play one I'd probably really enjoy playing Charlie, honestly. (I also wouldn't mind playing Cherri Bomb, though I totally get limiting canons to one fan-favorite per player!)

I can also offer a writing sample for Charlie if it's needed.

For a Hazbin-plot, if we wanted like...a more sandboxy thing at first, maybe we'd be playing in the aftermath of the hotel being rebuilt? With everyone getting used to the new status quo?

I'm sure you'll take on Sinner Adam will be interesting.

As for how I'd play Alastor...I think it would flip-flop a lot depending on the character and situation. He'd definitely be out for blood with the likes of Adam and Lucifer, though.

Sample | Alastor Meeting Sinner Adam
"Greetings, wayword sinner," Alastor's grin somehow managed to grow sharper and toothier since a few seconds ago. His eyes betrayed bloodlust. Before him stood the former resident of Heaven, Adam - a little different in appearance from when he'd last laid eyes on him, but there was still that arrogance about him. "Welcome to our wonderful little hotel," he added with faux modesty as he stretched out his arms to gesture at the hotel behind him. Since the last extermination - or at least, Heaven's last attempt at it -, the hotel seemed to have doubled, if not tripled in size, towering proudly. There was some comfort - and delight - in knowing that this likely rubbed his opposition in every wrong way imagineable.

"I do hope you didn't have too painful of a time dying." He was lying through his teeth as he said this, of course, eyes gleaming with the knowledge that his sadistic little doll Niffty had managed to avenge him. Hearing the news wasn't quite as satisfying as the idea of killing the first man himself surely would have been (especially after the wretch had the nerve to tell him that "Jazz is for pussies"), but it was better than nothing. He'd just assumed it had been permanent. It would have been less humiliating that way. Instead, he would have to make do with... this. "Now, how about you come inside, see what my dear Charlie-" he said, purpusefully to get under the skin of Vaggie, who had stood beside him, fiercely pointing her spear at her former boss -"has managed to do with the place since your last visit?" If he was going to put up with Adam, he would milk every last moment moment until he destroyed the uncultured swine from inside out. Slowly, painfully. Oh, yes, this would be fun.

He hummed to himself the tune to "Swingin' on Nothing" as he turned on his heel to re-enter the hotel. Sounds of saxophones, drums and trumpets drifted through the air, broadcasted by his powers. If Adam had any protests to make, he tuned them out with seeming ease, not about to let that foul mouthed creature ruin his renewed optimism. Nothing, nothing would take this revenge from him. Not Charlie, not Lucifer, not Adam. Not even Her.

If I do get the role, I've been debating about whether or not Lilith should have something to do with Alastor's disappearance and he with hers, but I can leave it out of the roleplay.

Haha, I guess she and Angel Dust will have something in common, then. xD I'm down for a spider-based OCs, though. It's mostly just actual spiders that make me uncomfortable. I'm sure she'll be a fun one.

My OCs would probably be a mishmash of traits, kind of like Husk. I like complicated/busy designs, so...

I'd be totes up for joining something like this. Normally I stick to playing canon characters in fandom games, but I'd love to flesh out an OC. I have two I've been wanting to try out. They are not sinners, but rather citizens of Hell. One is an Imp and the other a is one of those 'precautionary heirs' from the Ars Goetia (so not a high level or prominent one). Since neither of them are human sinner souls, they would have their own reasons for being at the hotel. Possibly just out of curiosity or even to hide out from their own lives.

A writing sample! It's ok if folks don't feel I write Charlie well enough to play her, but I do like her a lot!

A Happy Day-After In Hell
Charlie let out a little delighted squeal as she clutched her phone to her chest, giving an excited twirl on one black-tipped dancing show. She couldn't believe how beautiful the Hotel looked after all the hard work everyone had put in to rebuild it after the last Extermination.

"Vaggie! Vaggie! Can you believe this? Look, there's even a bigger welcoming lobby and front desk! I redid the check-in forms, too--I really think people will open up a bit more if they can write it down rather than--"

"--rather than saying it to your smiling face directly?" Vaggie said with a wry gray-faced expression. There was a tiredness in her eyes, but love, too. She wouldn't change this hyperactive positivity for anything.

Charlie held a check-in form right up to Vaggie's face, bouncing up and down in her red suit, continuing on as though she had not heard the subtle back-handed comment implying she was too much sometimes. "I even put some categories on there for guests who really need a place to just let it all out! Besides after our recent victory we should expect a flood of guests and they'll come with their own ideas and thoughts and ooooh, feelings!"

"....a suggestions and comments section?"

"If we're going to ask people to be better and improve, they should be able to ask us to do the same! I'm always ready with a smile to do my very best and--"

"They're going to draw dicks on that section."

"--wha...?" Charlie's icy-pale face contorted in absolute confusion. "B-but. But why would someone do that? What would even be the point?"

Vaggie shrugged. She voice was monotone and a bit deadpan--trying to explain logic to the bubbly daughter of Lucifer was a Sisyphean struggle at times. "To upset you. And frustrate you. Because sinners that come here are sometimes not going to come here with the intention to improve....at first. Angel was like that at first. And...well, remember Sir Pentious?"

There was a painful silence for a moment. Charlie's yellowish eyes dimmed their zeal for a moment. She had to fight the tears welling up. Vaggie wasn't wrong. She knew in her heart Vaggie wasn't wrong. No, Pentious hadn't come there to improve at first...but they'd won him over. And then he was gone, an act of self-sacrifice done absolutely in vain. She felt her lip quiver. Charlie was, at her core, a crier. Pretty much anything could make her cry. She lived in her emotions and felt everyone should.

"Look--sory, baby, it's just facts. I'm not saying to take the section out, I'm just--"

"Great!!!" Charlie said, yanking herself out of her gloom, knowing further moping and grieving wouldn't help. "Then I'll keep it in and maybe we'll get lucky and a new resident will have some great ideas for us!" She said this in a sing-song tone, and Vaggie blurted out, "No. Please no. Don't break into song. Please. There's absolutely no need to--"

But it was too late. The Princess of Hell was already raising her voice in a fashion that would have put a fuckin' Disney princess to shame.

Oh, yes! Please be our Alastor!

I do like the fan theory that Lilith is the one who owns his soul contract.

I don't see why that wouldn't work. We're bound to see a lot of crossover in both shows eventually. I think we can let everyone play one OC and one canon character in the beginning (if they're up for it)

What sort of feeling do we want to go with? Are we sticking to the mix of gruesome and silly like the actual show or did we want to get a little more serious?
