I'll come up with a char within the week, it's gonna be hell for me @_@

I think Open character sheets work better.  That way people can make plans/connections with other players.

GM QUESTION::
Would everyone prefer an open posted character sheet [I will be making a character sheet thread] or a simple one that shows bare bones and the main history/background done in private??
I know a couple have already posted a character profile here but I would still like opinions!!
I prefer closed histories and backgrounds.  Not sure what kind of sheet is needed if we're not using any game system?

(If I don't know you, haven't communicated with you in PM's or through the Elliquiy Forums, don't just IM me out of the blue.  I will just close the window & ignore you.  Take the trouble to actually send me a greeting & talk with me in Elliquiy first!)

I'll be honest, I was interested until you said freeform. >.<
Not that I blame you, I've mucked a bit with ToW's 'Mech combat system, and it works at small scale (dueling, say)  but it gets tedious as pants once you have ten or so on the field...

Well this story is a MechWarrior story. That means a lot of the story will be out of the mechs. Social, political, mystery, intrigue. Yes they will be Battlemechs battles but I want to handle as easy as possible. So freeform.

@Everyone I am working up a new character file. This will posted and used under a thread nicknamed Mercenary Review & Bonding Commission. It would be what anyone could fine out about your character by accessing Outreaches data files. I will also except addition background in IMs...BUT PLEASE WAIT UNTIL I HAVE EVERYTHING READY!!

Hrrm. Please forgive my skepticism.

How were you planning to handle ooc conflicts?
That kind of drama kills a game fast, if not handled with a certain amount of firmness.

Okay!!
Let us start off with the fact we are all over 18 here in 'E' and from the knowledge of Battletech several here have put forth, many of you that are responding to this are well over 25. I have been on the player end of some of the 'conflicts' and what bothered me the most was that any conflict was not addressed in OOC but instead to the story teller/GM. The other problem I have seen is a GM that does not want to have anyone drop so they try to ignore or sweep a problem away.

So if someone in the story has a problem or conflict I expect it first to be addressed to me so it can be discussed. I will then post in OOC what the problem seems to be and why and work it out with everyone... The thing here is anyone wanting to be involved with this story has to decide to be willing to work out situations that arise. If not then we may as well all say happy thoughts about Battletech and do not much else.

Let's look at some things that have come up already.

System v. Freeform!
I personally prefer freeform but when I started the thread I realized there could come a time where a player did not agree with me on a part of the story. So I offered up a simple easy to use system called Risus. I asked for opinions and the majority seemed to want freeform. Honesty has to make me say that only a bit more then half those interested responded and they all wished for freeform. So I may have lost people because they decided they wanted a system but for some reason could not or would not respond with their opinion or expected me to read their minds over a great distance. Which is a skill I have yet to master! I am still willing to discuss the issue but so far the only things I have heard favor freeform.

Hidden Character Sheet v. Open Character Sheet!
I can see both sides to this. Here is the thing though, everyone starts on Outreach. This means your character has to have posted something at the Mercenary Review & Bonding Commission just like the unit registering. This means you need some sort of file or sheet. Luckily I spent the day working one up. Does this mean you have to place everything there? No! Can you still have a hidden background? Of course and I will need that sent to me as well. What the MRBC file does is offer a quick glimpse of your character military or non-military background.

Here is what Captain Johansen's looks like. This gives enough to get an idea of what she could be capable of without disclosing any secrets she has.

I will explain the way things are set up on the MRBC file when I make a full character thread. This will be after I see more characters presented. So far I have 3 about ready to go.

As for me being firm! I have gmed for 40 years!! yea I started way back with AD&D 1st edition around 1977. I have dealt with just about any problem you can think of and have not yet lost a campaign. Players yes a campaign no!

I hope this helps address things for everyone!

Are you still looking for characters? I used to play the Battle Tech board game years ago and dabbled in the mechwarrior rpg.

Just going to say three things: I'm still here, I have zero problems with any of that and lastly - please keep secrets from the other players, feel free. I LOVE when characters have depth you need to uncover.
But there's a difference between keeping secrets from the other players and from the GM. I try not to make my various GMs lives too complicated (because I've been running games myself forever).

So I'm good, and I can translate my character sheet into whatever format you wish (except excel spreadsheets... that would require third party contractors).

So I am all in.

Still working on my sheet. The character is mostly done.  The mech is taking awhile.

Oh!  That was faster than I expected.  I simply didn't write anything for fear the game wasn't going to move forward while you might be gone for an extended time.  I wanted to be sure you would be back.  I just checked the thread and saw updates, so now that I know... I'll work on something tonight.  :-)

okay!!

You kids with the new fangled terms. What do you mean by Head-Canon?
Is that some sort of new Blakist weapon that can only be head mounted?

As for posting rates.

GM THINGS SO EVERYONE PAY ATTENTION:

I fully under stand that some post faster then others. No real way around that at times. So here is what I am planning.
http://battletech.rpg.hu/images/lgmap_marik.jpg look at the far left edge about the middle. Below Gibraltar...you will find San Nicolas. This is where the unit is going. Far to close to the idiots in Word of Blake on Gibson if you ask me.

For ease of the story it will take 3 months to reach the planet. I plan on allowing 4 weeks at least in real time and maybe as many as 6 weeks for the journey. I WILL make that decision after the story starts but rest assured there will hopefully be no more then 6 weeks for getting to know each other and meeting the NPCS and supporting red shirts. You all can post as often as you like during this time. I plan on posting several times a week but the posts will often be color and information not just roleplay.

By the end of the Journey part we all should have a good idea of how we mesh and the post rate that fits.

Now I know things in real life get in the way and vacations are coming up. So does this mean your Character is screwed. NO!!
Let me know what is going on and you will have 3 options. 1] Fade to Black-- for however long you are gone or having problems your character is a background piece. 2] Limited support--- I will note and so will others that your character has been assigned various duties that for now have him/her off doing something. I will try to arrange it so this is a small minor piece of the story but cannot say for sure it will be. 3] Vanilla NPC-- I will handle your character in some part of the current setting in a very vanilla way. What this means is that if the group is involved in a social setting I will have your character chatting with some minor flunky but not posting anything other then what they may find out. If in a battle I would move and use the character as a support and flanking backup. IT WOULD NEVER BE A RED SHIRT!

I hope this answers anything about Posting rate!!

Head-canon = what happens when the people writing the setting do something that just /does not work/ - either for the size of the plot holes, or for something else equally world-shattering - and thus, said incident is entirely ignored. This has  known to be the results of long-running campaigns in established worlds where 'this happened' doesn't work with 'but we just trampled that group into the ground and salted the fields yesterday', wherein the trampling parties were Trial of Annihilation style thorough.

When you've been playing for long enough, these things happen. Hence the question.

So Basically are there any non-canon stuff that could explode on me. Yes there is one non-canon item so far in the setting.
With in FRR Lore there are the 1st,2nd, and 3rd Hussars... In this story there was a 4th Hussars of which several founding members of the Storm Crows were in the 4th.

In 3046, FRR created the 4th Hussars patterned after the famous FedCom Red Brigade stationed on Trell 1. 4th Hussars also called 'Red Team or OPForce, was broken down into the three oversized combined arms battalions. 1st battalion trained in FedCom/Lyran tactics and worked up and down the Lyran border training against various FRR and militia forces. 3rd battalion trained in Kurita tactics and worked up and down that side of the border. 2nd battalion was trained in mutipile sytles and worked the Periphery edge and well as a lot of the interior. These battalions were the main training battalions of the FRR and when the clans attacked were at first overlooked since the 4th Hussars were listed as a 'training regiment' and in the clan society that meant it was filled with over-the-hill, wash-outed or barely tested youth. Not some of the very best the FRR had to offer.

The 4th did not survive intact the invasion. A few small elements did. The 4th garnered a positive Rep with in the FRR but are largely unknown without.

That is the only change I have made, so far, in canon. I hope this answered your question, Thorne!!
