It started in a dream. The hotel. It was beautiful and elegant. Set in a desert on a cool, calm night with just the softest of breezes to move the leaves of tall palm trees. The scent of warm air and the feel of soft sand beneath feet. A tall set of ornately carved stone steps led to an elegant entrance. Gentle music rolled from the entranceway, serenading your journey up and into the depths of the hotel. Every night the dream drew out a little longer, though just a little. It seemed as though it would take an age until you reached the top of those steps and pass into the hotel itself. Every night the dream repeated until it seemed it would be an endless cycle. Despite the warmth and the beauty of the dream the precise recreation and unerring repetition grew somewhat concerning. You grew more aware, with each night, of the silhouettes of strangers on the steps beside you. You could never make out their faces. No matter how much you told yourself it was a dream it felt impossibly real and vivid. More like you were witnessing a place than imagining it. Tonight when you fell asleep you had no idea you would finally enter the hotel. You had even less idea you might never leave.

Sierra Carmesi is a freeform non-smut horror game set in a fictional hotel with several surreal aspects which will focus on psychological horror and survival.

Recruiting. Please send all CS's to me via PM. Thank you!.

The Sierra Carmesi is a horror game focusing on a group of strangers all transported to a hotel after a series of strange, surreal dreams. Working together, though likely experiencing some conflict, the group must settle on whether this is all a shared dream or whether they really are in this place. There will be elements of mystery and puzzle-solving as well as an overarching story. This game will have a plot and a purpose beyond simply an effort to create horror scenes. This game's not for the faint of heart and will include graphic/disturbing content though it will not be of a sexual nature. The threats in this setting are not fun or sexy. A major focus will be atmospheric horror, tension and a slow-build rather than simple quick shock value. Shocking and disturbing things will happen but they will not be immediate or cheap and will all have a meaning and purpose.

This game will be looking for around 4-6 dedicated players and intended to run long-term. I will be hoping for post times of around a week or so and looking to make sure players are engaged and active. The game will begin with the characters in one central location but may split off depending on the choices of the players as individuals, including even separating all characters if they chose to. Please be communicative! If you ever need skipping in this game, let me know. It will be fine.

This game will be GM-guided with me taking a great deal of control of the setting/environment however the story is far from prewritten and the characters will have huge agency to influence the story and their own experiences. Characters will have a lot of chance for choices and moral decisions. Small or large actions can and will have large repercussions in this game. Sometimes it'll be pretty hard to tell what the best choice is. Some choices may have impacts considerably later on, or on other characters.

Content Warning: If you are easily disturbed, disgusted or affected by horror content or extreme content this game is not for you. This is a serious game aiming to create an uncomfortable and disturbing atmosphere on purpose. The game will feature extreme psychological horror elements including but not limited to graphic/gory imagery, risk of physical harm, surreal/disturbing images and drug/alcohol abuse. It may include content touching on areas including rape, suicide, torture and mutilation. None of these things will be the core focus of the game but at times graphic content will happen. Characters will be expected to have grounded, emotional responses to the heavy and often traumatic experiences they will undergo.

This game is set in a realistic version of the real world. The characters have had a conventional life up until the past four weeks. They may have had some notable or unusual experiences (Within the bounds of the real world)  but nothing impossible or surreal. Ghosts/Psychics/Mediums are not provably real in this setting and no characters may have had any genuine experiences along those lines.

For the past four weeks all player characters have had the same recurring dream as described in the beginning. To summarise:

Standing at the bottom of a set of hotels before the 'Sierra Carmesi' a hotel in the desert. It appears ornate and beautiful. It is sunset with a warm glow and long shadows. Steadily you make your way up the stairs towards the doors but the dream always ends before you can enter. The longer the dreams have gone on the further you have got up the stairs. The more vivid all the scents, sights, sounds, touches and tastes have become. In the third week of the dream you have become more aware of silhouettes around you but been unable to interact with them in any way. They become more real and solid with each dream.

Any efforts to google or research the hotel are fruitless. There appears to be no such place anywhere on earth.

No doctor can understand the dreams. Medication does not help, therapy does not help. No alternative method adjusts the dreams at all. It does not matter when or where you sleep, how much or how little. The dream will play out in full and you will awake each time you have slept for exactly 28 days.

Your character is not aware they are shared by anyone else though they may believe the silhouettes suggest they are they cannot prove this.

No information regarding this phenomenon (Repetitive dreams of this hotel) can be found online.

Though your characters are not aware of this the Hotel is extremely large and will contain a variety of environments. You will not be spending every moment of this game simply in a standard hotel layout (Though large parts will be there.). There's more to it than that. Not sharing any more spoilers though.

1. Don't cause or participate in drama. Be respectful of other players. If an issue comes up, PM me.
2. Don't godmode either fellow players or NPC's. If you're not sure about something in-game, ask me.
3. Inform the GM if you will be unable to post for significant time. (Over a week.)
4. Write in the third person past tense. A reasonable standard of English is required. (Spellcheck, grammar check, no one-liners or overly short posts)
5. This is a horror setting. Dark, graphic and disturbing content is expected. Your character will witness it and will at least undergo psychological trauma.
6. Respect that this game is not smut focused. Player-Player smut is allowed but must be taken to a private thread.

A character for this game can be just about anyone so long as they are a reasonably plausible human being. The world they have come from is entirely realistic. I do not want PC's who are mediums, psychics or have paranormal experience. They may well believe in these things but nothing provable has ever happened in this setting. They should be flawed but not monsters. They don't need to be a good person though ideally some capacity to deal with others is wise so that they do not end up ostracized from the other player characters at the start.

This game is not first come first served. I will be approving concepts based on various things including how well they fit the setting/game, how individual they are compared to other concepts applied or already approved. I will also take into account OOC personas. People don't have to all be best friends but I will not tolerate passive-aggressive behaviour in this game.

All characters must be over 18. All characters must have a real faceclaim. The CS must be filled out in full. I would encourage having more than the minimum in the personality segments.

Sign me up. Unsure what type of character I'll make for this.

So from reading should I be assuming this all happens in a dream world? Like Nightmare on Elm street style?

Awesome. Anything goes, really. Just 'a person'.

It's a little like that. Perhaps more Silent Hill in the sense that it's not really a 'dream' but another place. Somewhere between the two, with some other elements. As to exactly what that is, that's a mystery!

Well. Interested.

Awesome. Don't know if I've ever seen you jump into a horror game before.

I have one other I know is interested already so we're up to three so far.

We will def have some fun together then!

I'm sure. It's a fun topic! Outlooks on horror are usually so different.

PM, definitely. But I want to make sure there's at least a couple more people before I say I'm actively recruiting. If you wanna do/send a CS anyway that's okay but the game may not go ahead if there's not more than three players. Usually psychological horror does okay enough though and I do very much want to run this one.

I'll send it so even though if it doesn't get off the ground you have me in the back of your mind for any future ones you want to run.

This is weapons-grade enthusiasm for horror.

Lady Sakura

;D I just finished Visage (Easter egg in it loved it!) and five nights at Freddy's so I'm ready!

I think Visage is at least a lil closer to the tone of this setup. Not sure. This one's more slow-burn psychological than Freddy's jumpscares. But still, I get all horror stuff puts you in the horror mood.

Praxis

Definitely have an idea for a character.  Now just need to see if we get some traction from some other writers.  Sun and Sak, looking forward to writing with you guys.

:)

Totoro

Blue Bunny Sparkle is interested too, bringing us to three writers. Just need at least one more if anyone can recommend anyone then go for it. I'm fine with a small, focused game.

Totoro

This game is now going ahead and recruiting with at least three people interested. There are spaces for 1-2 more potentially.

I need to get cracking on my sheet as well. Will try to get that in before work.

Totoro

Loving the enthusiasm from you all. Remember, CS's via PM! Can't wait to write with everyone.
