Lost Paradise

Cold Heritage is absolutely right, although I see how using the word portal could have been misleading  :-)

As for "Goddess of Death", true ressurection is an example of how far it could stretch, but one that's prohibitively expensive. Hel refused to do it for Baldr, even when every Celestial wanted him back. I'm hoping the caveat of meaningful costs is fair for the versatility!

Finally done. Not 100% settled on the powers yet though... So they're pretty negotiable...

Korey
The Banished Character Sheet

Character Name: Korey
Inspiration: Persephone
Nature: Sheltered Rebellious Country-girl
Demeanor: Introverted extrovert, shy, capricious, playful, fanciful, naive, rebellious, guilty

Faceclaim: Alina Kovalenko

Physical Description: While in body Korey is best described as slight in stature, standing at a maximum height of 5 feet and 4 inches, she is beautifully curved and holds the body of a dancer – nimble and flexible – with long shapely legs and a petite but ample bust. Her naturally rusty locks fall around her face in sweeping waves of fire-silk, framing her high, freckled cheeks and vibrant blue eyes in beautiful contrast.

Personality: Korey’s favorite season is fall. She loves the changing colors of all the wilting leaves, showing that even outside of one’s prime they can be extraordinary. At her very core the sheltered girl is an idealist and is always trying to find the silver lining to every cloud no matter how dark the sky. Even if one cannot be found, Korey is the type to try and create one of her own. Nothing can ever be as black and cold as it seems. For that, Korey is often described with words like ‘fanciful’ and ‘unrealistic’. The humans may know her story as a tragedy, but she refuses to wallow. For Korey is just as happy to dance beneath the stars as she is to bathe beneath sunbeams.

Despite this, Korey often second guesses herself. She tries not to see herself as a victim, but after the strict and very isolated way her mother raised her in, it’s hard not to feel that way sometimes. Especially as she makes her way out there into a world completely unknown to her - and we’re not even talking about earth! Just her own homeworld is strange to her. That aside, she loves to read and often has her head in the clouds. She survives off of the fantasy worlds she’s devoured from whatever books the nymphs could manage to sneak away to her. Korey hates feeling restricted, and often rebels in any way she can when she feels as such.

History: As the inspiration of Persephone, Queen of Hell, Korey’s life has been less than stellar but not quite as hellish as most would assume. Within the realm of Korey’s existence she had little idea her mother held such great importance, and this was something her mother took great care to make sure of. From Korey’s birth she was kept away from the entirety of the world, sequestered away into a mythical forest her mother forbade others from entering and protected aggressively.

You see, it was her mother, Demeter, whom had been held captive and raped by a powerful being in her youth. She was abused, and when she sought out help none would lift a finger for her due to her rapist’s status. She became so embittered by her abandonment on top of the crimes committed against her, that she turned away from society and chose to close herself away within an overgrown forest created with her tears. Demeter became entirely agoraphobic and paranoid to the point of madness, a dark sorceress, holding no trust for any other creature that lived outside the thorny border of her beloved holt. She did not dare to return even when she realized her unwilling union festered within her and forced her to conceive Korey.

Though Korey was a continuous reminder of a dark past she wanted to cut herself away from, she did love her daughter with full and obsessive entirety. Korey was never free to leave the grove her mother planted her, and her only friends were the woodland creatures and the occasional nymph. Korey hadn’t seen another humanoid unless painted within the pages of her books, and wouldn’t otherwise until she was well into her late teens. Any questions made of the outside world was often met with either silence or outright aggression, especially should she persist.

Unfortunately, Korey had grown lonely and cagey. She felt trapped within her leafy cage, and began to plot her escape. The older she grew, the more powerful her own powers began to manifest. It was becoming easier for her to navigate her mother’s maze of overgrowth. It became easier for her to part the thick trees that lined her home like a great wall. And eventually she did manage to escape, but not without her mother hot on her trail.

Korey fled to the nearby settlements, amazed with wonder for their amazing buildings and beautiful trinkets - barely keeping one step ahead of her mother. But as she turned to the townspeople for aid, the moment she mentioned her mother’s name they would suddenly turn their back on her or flee. Apparently Demeter had made a name for herself, yet another thing her mother had neglected to tell her. While Korey was ignorantly searching for help, rumors began to spread of the sorceress’s daughter and eventually reached the ears of the lord that had placed her in Demeter’s belly.

Shocked, curious, and perhaps a bit suspicious, the man sent out minions of his own to track the girl down. It was here that Persephone’s myth began. As Korey crossed the realms to ancient earth in order to lose her trackers, she dazzled villagers with her power over gaia itself. They watched as her only friends, the nymphs of her home, tried to escort her to safety only to stand helpless with horror in their eyes as a dark figure appeared from the aether just to sweep the young maiden up and disappear within the ground just as quickly. Nymphs referred to the man just as Demeter always had - The terrible rapist, a vile demon, dark and dangerous. The villagers that overheard instantly suspected the gods were afoot, and Hades suddenly became her abductor.

Meanwhile, in Korey's home realm her mother became so furious with her daughter's abduction by her father that she cast the world into eternal winter, forcing other powers to come forward and either battle her rapist or force him to return her beloved child. Once it became clear Korey was the warmonger's daughter, they realized they could not in good faith force the child away entirely. That's right, you're reading correctly. Persephone's story was essentially one giant, ridiculous custody case. In the end Demeter was forced to concede to sharing her daughter with her own attacker, and Korey was forced to spend half of the year with her wretched father and the other half with her crazy mother.

Notable Achievement:
Creator of the popular plant Mint
Resurrected some sentenced to death by her father.
Set free some of her father’s enemies.

Powers
  • Agrokinesis The psychic ability to manipulate plants, vegetation and plant-based materials. With this Korey can move, reform and shape plant matter as she sees fit. She can also create, restructure and accelerate the growth of plant life. When creating plant life they are sprouted from her own body, growing directly from a part of her skin, usually the hands or along the crown of her head.
  • Apothecary Through the use of plant matter she can transfer life energy to rapidly regenerate and heal other beings, even bringing them back from the brink of death. Combing this ability with the ability above allows her to transfigure and restructure plants for various uses such as potions, antitoxins, antidotes and other curatives - unfortunately, these are not instantaneous and take time to reach their full effect. She is also capable of making things with darker intents, such as poisons.
  • Extraordinary Willpower After growing up with an entirely domineering mother and ending up with an even more domineering father in a world where people like to mind game the fuck out of you, Korey has an incredible sense of self and an indomitable spirit.

Armament of Divinity: Dragonfly Hair Comb
Description.
  • A Taste of Darkness Once removed from her hair, Korey can transform the comb into a staff infused with the most potent of her mother’s dark magic, causing decay upon all it touches.
  • Mother’s Love As a token of her affections, Demeter personally gifted this comb to her daughter as a source of added protection. This activates when she is in harm’s way and will temporarily create a protective bubble around her.

I like the idea of this.

I was debating between Serqet or Skadi, but can't decide which.

Now I want a game set in a worlds where superheroes have to negotiate for powers.

"I'll trade you flying for invisibility!"

"No way, man,  flying just gets you places faster.   Invisibility gets you places flying can't."

"Nu-uh, shows how much you know,  bet you don't even know about the flying ruins over Aix-en-Provence..."

"Hey guys, anyone want to be able to talk to fish?"

In unison: "Shut up aquaman!"

Xurtan

And that makes me think of those athames that stole powers if you killed someone with them from Charmed, and I suddenly want a PvP power-stealing focused game. Hmm.

Cold Heritage

I've amended my submission to include a description of Czernobog's Hammer of Darkness. Basically it looks like a sledgehammer that's never been cleaned or shown a lick of maintenance.

Thank you, fellow Elliquiyan, and have a wonderful day.

Hey friends,

Just wanted to drop a quick update. I'll respond to everything tomorrow. Got my new harddrive set up today and swapping over to win10, so I'm the middle of fixing everything. Should be up and running fully by the end of the night though. Apologies for my delay today!

Aethyrium

General Announcement: We are currently up to 9 applications, and I can take only 5 of them. With that much interest currently in place, I feel comfortable setting a deadline. I will not consider any sheet submitted after 12pm on Thursday (04/11). If you're still looking at the game, please get your sheets completed and posted here for review and consideration! I am, up until that point, still very eager to see what other additions we might get.

With all of that said, after a great deal of consideration on my part, I am ready to approve two characters that have already been submitted:

Hermes, by BarbaraGordon
Susano, by Bowen

So, welcome to the game you two. I'll move your sheets over, and send you links here shortly.

Finally, for those I didn't get to review before, you can expect that here shortly. It'll be my task right after this post. Thank you everyone for your patience and interest!

@Re Z L: See, I like what you did with her. Much worth the wait. A couple of reads and I don't think anything sticks out at me as needing to be addressed specifically. I like the distance projection of her powers through her item. I am contemplating how her being able to observe it currently might affect things, but I'm not sure it'll break anything. This might be something I need to get back to you on, but all in all she looks good!

@Intimate Ink: Your powers are filled with such delicious exposition. I love it. I'm really digging the idea of the ability to force mortals to do work until they stroke out, that's fun. I don't see anything that needs to be immediately addressed here, except perhaps your powers seem a bit narrow? Which isn't a problem in the sense that it's bad, just that you may not always have reason to tap into them. If you're okay with that, so am I!

@Amarlo: You definitely nailed my original intent for the characters, so great job with that. Really fantastic. Her powers seem to be in line, but I'll leave you room to wiggle some. I like them all, I think. Particularly the willpower 'trait' focus, that's an unusual choice and one I really like. I like the two fold plant powers and being able to generally do stuff, there's at least one other character presented that might tie in with. So that's fun. Overall, I like it, well done!

So everyone just sorta hang out. About two days before I close recruitment and announce the final selections. And... I guess I should also present my sheet at somepoint. Lol. As always, you can poke me here or in PMs with questions/comments, and I look forward to seeing more from everyone. Thank you!

Glad you like it!

Let me know if any problems come up, we can sort out how it works a little more if needed  :)

Callie Del Noire

Been reading a book called Runed..was tempted to do a Loki like the book..waking up in a snowdrift as a woman...but can figure out powers to keep or items to have..

Side note, my two silliest ideas for powers for Hermes were:

Funny Money - Being the god(dess) of wealth, she can produce money out of nothing, but it eventually turns into something worthless, without her full divinity.

Knock Around - Being the god(dess) of fertility, she can induce pregnancy on any living creature. Not terribly useful, but could be funny.

I have this image of the scene from Push.. the guy who does illusions opening his wallet and handing over a piece of paper that says $10.

So theoretically she could make a man pregnant? >.>

The money thing was, in fact, totally stolen from push.

The baby idea was just something silly I had when I was watching the Shazam trailer while writing this profile. "Your phone is charged...your phone is charged."

"You've got a baby...you've got a baby....you've got a baby" "But I'm a dude!" "Meh."

Re Z L

With all this chaos going on already, my job will be pretty easy...

Callie Del Noire

Trying to figure out what sort of powers Loki would have

-Trickery: I got a bridge..can make any lie believable
- Fire: ??
- Runes: ??

Lost item. His sword, traded away long before Ragnarök

Cold Heritage

There's shape-shifting as a possibility. I can remember at least three tales that have Loki taking a different shape - though one of them may have entailed borrowing a magical cape from one of the other Aesir to do it.
Thank you, fellow Elliquiyan, and have a wonderful day.

Alright, so it's been really difficult to pick out what characters i wanted to include, as there were some really great options. Enough that I honestly considered expanding the pool of the game to cater to more applications. Unfortunately, I've decided to stick to my guns and keep the game limited to six.

So we'll be taking:

Fenrir, by Xurtan
Persephone, by Amarlo
Xipe Totec, by Intimate Ink

Plus the aforementioned:

Hermes, by BarbaraGordon
Susano, by Bowen

Apologies to those I couldn't take on this adventure, it really camedown to very minor things; pantheon representation, who I felt would play best in a sand box with others, and what stories sprung out to me immediately from my game notes and how they interacted with character stories. Thank you all for your interest, and happy writing! I hope to have the chance to write with everyone again. :)

For those approved, jump over to the out of character thread, and anyone that wants to follow along can do so here.
