Chapter One - The Facility

This is your home; and as far as you know, this is it. No skies; no sunshine; no fresh air, breeze, or pastures of green. This massive machine is your home. The whirring and hum much like the pulse heard inside a womb. You know no other place. You dream of no other place. You eat your protein bars and take your medicine because it is your duty. There are some among you who are not like you or the others in your group. They rule you, and if you disobey them, then you will be beaten or tortured back into submission. The training is brutal and relentless but you endure for those who don’t are never seen again. There were over a hundred in your group but not all of them made it. There were rebels who refused to eat and take their medicine. There were those who you thought were the strongest men and women you have ever seen broken and reduced to mindless wrecks. The machine shows no mercy. You have considered breaking. Maybe disappearing isn’t such a bad idea. Whatever frees you from the pain and stress, right? What was easier for everyone else to do, you found it difficult. Pride kept you going. Dignity convinced you to use your head.

You had a feeling that you couldn’t explain. You believed that there was an outside. The Facility cannot be all there is to life. You are taught to believe so. You are taught that if anyone tried to escape The Facility that they would die. It was a risk you were willing to take if only to see for yourself. You are planning to escape but not alone. You are way of the others. Will they go with you or will they betray you? You trust one of them with your life. If you can trust one, then one is all you need.

You do not want to plot escape openly. You do not want The Facility to know what you’re planning. How you plan to escape is where this chapter begins.

Lost Notes of Andreassen #1
Dr. Jostein Andreassen
- The Creator of the Hale (ha'l)

I am the creator of the first superhuman. I call them Hale, “tail” in my native Norwegian tongue. Did I intend to make the first superhuman? No. Just as Alexander Fleming did not intend to provide the world with penicillin, I did not intend to provide the world with living weapons. Let me explain.

Once upon a time, there was a man by the name of Ernst Haeckel, he was a German researcher and he was best known for the “Ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny” or the recapitulation theory. He was also criticized for being the father of Fascist ideology, but I shall not discuss such things. The theory of recapitulation is basically the idea that a developing embryo goes through constant stages of evolution during its growth cycle. To make a long story short, the man was laughed at and biologists made it a sport to disprove Haeckel’s theory over and over again.

Now I’ve read a few of Haeckel’s works, and I became curious. His book, The History of Creation was like a treasure map. Haeckel believed that a lost continent called Lemuria contained the missing link. What if I told you that I found that missing link? It was deep in the ocean and resembled a giant anemone. When I discovered it, I knew I had to have it. It took much convincing and billions of credits to uproot the thing and bring it to this facility. I don’t think you could imagine how stressed I was to have found the key to all creation, and then trying to keep it alive. I had to simulate its biome.

I called it Charybdis. The name seemed suitable. This must have been the creature foretold in ancient stories that swallowed the sea. I had Charybdis. I had The Womb of the World. All I needed to do was test it. I fed Charybdis whatever I could find. I fed it plants and animals and it gave me nightmares. The creatures that emerged from it were absolutely horrifying and had to be destroyed. I couldn’t destroy them all. Some were too powerful and escaped. No matter. I figured they wouldn’t survive The Waste. I threw everything inside it…but humans. The first human to have been given to Charybdis was a mere security guard. I pushed him right in. He didn’t even see it coming. I didn’t even see it coming. I expected only a monster to return, but instead, a human returned. The security guard had become human…but different. He was no longer the man I had pushed in. He coccyx had lengthened. Why…he had a tail. I laughed. Was that all my Charybdis could do? Give humans tails? I learned that the tail was not what it appeared. It was an extension of the self. It was almost spiritual how it worked. It made the former security guard superhuman. I could not believe it.

I was terrified. I no longer knew what I had made. I no longer understood what sort of power I had brought to this world. I pushed the security guard back in, and he did not emerge the same way. He emerged a monster; a mutant; a freak. He escaped into The Waste like the others. Failures. Abominations. I wanted to experiment more, but I was afraid. As much as I tried not to disclose my findings to anyone but my colleagues, I was betrayed. Word got out of my discovery and my experiments. Emissaries of the United North American Republic (UNAR) visited my research facility and offered me billions of credits to continue my research. Money…as if money mattered when you held the key to human evolution. I am probably mad now. Because I did not know what to do with Charybdis, I took the money as means to give me a purpose. I needed a purpose for I was at my life’s end.

I made more creatures like the security guard (I don’t even remember his name)—not the monster. I called them the Hale. I didn’t have to do anything for them. Charybdis gave birth to them and the UNAR took them away. I didn’t have to worry where they went or what happened to them. I didn’t have to worry about Charybdis’s secret getting out. I didn’t realize that I was being watched. I thought I could work for the UNAR into my old age, but they were learning how Charybdis worked. They decided that they didn’t need me anymore.

-----End of Journal-----

The Hale are the Children of Charybdis. They were humans once who lived an average life just like anyone. They were abducted, stolen from their goals and dreams, and brought to The Facility. After being reborn in the womb of the missing link, they are no longer the persons they used to be. The Hale are stronger, faster, more agile, smarter, and their senses more acute than a normal humans’. Their coccyges are longer and resemble tails. They function like tails but each tail is different in appearance. Some are covered in fur and others aren’t. Scientists have yet to understand the functions of the Hales’ tails. The Hale do not need them to stand and the Hale are capable of removing them. When a Hale removes his or her tail, then the tail becomes living energy and takes the form of the Hale’s unique weapon or power. A Hale cannot lose his or her tail for the tail always returns to the base of the Hale’s spine. Hale are capable of taking the tails of other Hale if they kill them, which grants them that Hale’s power or weapon. The strength of a Hale is determined by the amount of tails a Hale possesses. Hale are forbidden from stealing the tails of other Hales. The Facility does not want the Hale to grow too powerful to control.

The Hale are controlled by institutionalization. The Facility is their home. The UNAR employees are their masters. They are to always do what they are told unless a superior tells them otherwise. They train for battle, and they are told that one day they would have to defend their home. Every day is almost always the same, but when a Hale is good, they may get rewards. They get to listen to music—one song. They get to taste something other than protein bars and water. They are even praised by a mere pat on the head, which seems simple but it means the world to them. Some personnel may reward them in other ways…more than likely forbidden ways.

The Hale are not placed into the same quarters. They each have their own quarters, but they share the same lavatories as the UNAR staff so that the staff can keep an eye on them. The lavatories are completely unisex.

Below is a character sheet for making a Hale. I am only accepting 5 characters not including the GM. You can use this site to find fancy fonts to decorate your CS (You right click the font style you want, click "Copy Image Address," and use it as a image code). I am only taking the characters who I feel fit the SL the best. If I’ve written in other games with you, then you might have priority. “Might.”

It is not mandatory that you use an image for your character. It is also not mandatory for the image to match exactly what you envision. You can use a picture that depicts one thing, but your written description says something else. In the end, what matters is the writing and not the pictures. If you do use pictures, then you can use digital art. No anime. Celebrities, models, etc. are a maybe. I want everyone to capture the sci-fi theme with their choices or just the paranormal theme.

Character Sheet
Code Name: The Hale are only known by their code names. They are not given real names.
Age: No younger than 18 years old. No older than 40 years old. Since they are born again, their actual age is much younger, but for the sake of what they “appear” to be, you will write an age.
Gender: Male or Female.
Height: No taller than 7’ and no shorter than 5’.
Weight: No lighter than 110 lbs.
Build: Solid, lean, lithe, curvaceous, etc. You can go into detail later.
Hair: What color is their hair? It doesn’t have to be natural. It can be any color of the rainbow, of any texture, with any highlights because this is a fictional game and they were born again.
Eyes: Same explanation as hair. You can give their pupils a different shape too, but be mindful that later in the game when they escape, they’ll have a difficult time blending into normal society.
Skin: You can give them an odd skin color, markings, etc.
Scars: Any scars worth mentioning? Write their location as well.
Tattoos: Every Hale is given an 8 digit code. Make it up. Use only numbers and capitalized letters.

Basic Description: Write a basic description of your Hale. Like, the overall appearance. You can also go into details about the appearance of their tails in this description. The tails can be whatever color and resemble whatever you want them to resemble.

Personality: You do not have to go over-the-top with this. I’m sure as you RP your character, the personality will open up, but do write something that would make me want to accept you. Nothing plain-Jane.

Tail Ability: This is basically the power your Hale’s tail grants. The tail can become a paranormal weapon-blade, firearm, blunt weapon, etc. or it can become a literal ability such as when it is removed, it grants the Hale the ability to…You can only chose one or the other not both. Your ability can only do one thing. If you make your Hale a pyrokinetic, then fire should be the only thing your character deals with. I should see no other element. Weapons are a little more flexible. But whatever, just write something and I’ll either say “Yay” or “Nay.” My overall goal is just to make sure someone isn’t going god-mode in this game or making an overpowered character.
Tail Quantity: 1 – everyone starts with 1 tail.
Squad Role: Based on your character’s tail ability, what role do you see your character playing in the team?

Background: In the background, you will write the life your character had before being abducted. Their life didn’t have to be horrible, moody, depressing, or some sob story. It could have been as normal as Norman. It could have even been absolutely successful, which would make it rather tragic to have been ripped from.

If I need to update the character sheet for whatever reason, then I will inform all players when I do.

In-Game Events

In this section, I give you the typical day-to-day schedule of the Hale. I will allow sandbox periods to allow our characters to come close together and I’ll be putting them in a squad battle scenario to bring them even closer together. Some writers need to be kicked in the rear on character interaction so I hope the squad battle fixes that. Once these events are all reached, then the chapter will end. I want everyone to know and see the goals of the game so that we can all reach them together. Once I get the full team, we will discuss who is going to be the one who decides to put into everyone’s head to break out. But for now, refer to the schedule.

0500-0630 Morning Fitness (Hale can do whatever they want during this time. Train, lift, etc. Character interactions can happen during this time. Buddy sparing can take place as well. Swimming, etc. They can also shower before breakfast.)
0700 Breakfast and Medicine (Quick protein bar. Nobody really knows what’s in the protein bar. It resembles a black brick of crunchy mush. It also tastes pretty bland. The medicine is an injection. Your Hale will feel like a million bucks. It is quite an addictive substance and hard to quit.)
0700-0900 Tail Study (The researchers want to put your Hale through a series of tests that demonstrate the Hale’s weapon or powers)
0900-1130 Squad Battle Drills (Players should avoid using these times because this is a GM-event)
1130-1200 Lunch and Medicine (Mm…Protein Bar and rest. Juice me up!)
1200-1300 Desensitization (Facility education reminding them of their purpose. To protect their home!)
1300-1500 Combat Training (The Hale do combat with other Hale. Winner gets praise. Loser…disappears. This isn’t PVP. Do not be afraid.)
1500-1600 Infirmary (For those Hale who need it after battle. Those Hale who don’t need it can return to their quarters to decompress.)
1600-1800 Tail Study (Again with the tests! This time it’s torture and loyalty tests.)
1800 Dinner and Medicine (Protein bar! I don’t know if I can do this anymore. *takes medicine* I can take on the world!)
1800-1900 Shower (If they don’t ache too much to wash their own asses.)
1900 Quarters (They are to stay there until tomorrow. Although, they are free to use the bathroom.)

Chapter Goals
1. Character Acquaintance – I want all characters to get to know each other. This game can only be successful if writers are willing to not just write with each other but story-weave together. This section also includes the Squad Battle Drill.
2. The Rebel – We need to decide who are rebel is going to be. The rebel will also need to be very smart when informing the others of his or her plot. He or she doesn’t have to inform everyone at once. He or she can easily do it by informing them one at a time, which is probably safer. How he or she does it is up to the creative mind of the writer.
3. Planning the Breakout – Decide what Hales’s powers are useful in the plan. Find the weaknesses in The Facility and their staff members.
4. Breakout – Once you commit there’s no turning back!
5. Successful Escape. End of Chapter. The Hale will more than likely have to scatter after they break out. Traveling in groups will be too dangerous. But do not worry, they will meet again in Chapter Two. We will see what kind of lives they live since the breakout.

1. No drama. If you're mad or frustrated, step away, calm down, and come back later. If anyone in the game makes you angry, then PM the GM. If the GM makes you angry, then again, PM the GM. We're all adults here. Please act like it and keep your drama even if it is passive-aggressive out of the OOC.
2. Activity. I expect for this game to move pretty leisurely. But I expect only one post a week. If you go silent on me for 14 days without telling me you were going to be away, then I will send you a PM. But please be courteous. If you know you are going to be away, then please tell everyone in the OOC. I tend to have bad memory when people tell me they're going to be absent so it is best to tell everyone. Someone will remember.
3. God-moding/Over-powered characters. But I worked so hard on it! I don't care. Denied.
4. Respect. Be respectful to each other even if you don't like the person. If something bothers you, you can vent to me in PMs. Please do not vent in the OOC.
5. Interact. If you are joining this game, then you are joining to interact with everyone. I understand some people's characters mesh well and you want to RP all up and down with that person. That's great. I love chemistry. HOWEVER; if we have a group scene, do not act like other characters are not there when they're right there in the room with your character. Please notice everyone. I swear, sometimes a bomb goes off in the same room, and people will act like it didn't happen. Not in this game!
6. Sex. This is not a smut game. Now read that three times in a row. Thank you. While sex does happen, will happen, might happen...sex is not 90% of this game. I used to make players make a different separate thread for sexual scenes, but instead, we have this awesome function called, "Spoiler." Please use the Spoiler tags for anything that is Not Safe for Work (NSFW). Photos, sex scenes, etc. If there is sexual nudity...mind you, showering is not bad. If you describe your character's junk, then it needs a spoiler. If the clothes come off and the junk comes out, it needs a spoiler. I found this to be way more convenient than wasting threads in the solo section.
7. Bring a creative mind. As the GM I can only guide the story so much. The story really shines with the characters you bring to this table. Please come here willing to bring something fun and interesting. Do not come here expecting me to hold you by the hand and give you things to respond and react to. There is so much you can do.

TheBlackThrone

Code Name: Doc
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 224 lbs.
Build: Athletic
Hair: Copper
Eyes: Vibrant-orange; pupils normal.
Skin: Slight-tan
Scars: None note-worthy at this time.
Tattoos: 8649F6E2

Basic Description: Doc is tall and lean in appearance. He has copper, feathery short hair, orange-gleaming eyes, and creamy skin. His serial number is tattooed on the back of his neck. Doc’s tail is three-feet long and covered in orange downy fur. It is similar to that of a monkey’s with its prehensile capabilities. He may use it to grasp things and as a weapon in combat, but he doesn't normally use it to support his weight. Doc appears to be friendly and approachable. He has a youthful countenance and carries himself with a confident stature.

Personality: Because of his youthful appearance, Doc is often underestimated and assumed to be a pushover. He is that guy who attracts bullying. Doc, however, is a tough Hale. There isn’t much else UNAR can do to him that they haven’t done already. Doc will take punishment for another Hale if he believes the other Hale cannot handle it. Some may call him stupid for doing so, but he doesn't like to see suffering. Rumors among other Hale is that he is The Facility’s bitch, but Doc frankly doesn't give a fuck about what other Hale say and think. Because of these rumors, Doc keeps to himself and doesn't trust others. He doesn't expect them to return the kindness he shows or take a bullet for him. In this life, he doesn't expect anything positive. Doc, in a team environment, only cares about accomplishing the mission with as little casualties as he can control. If his teammate is caught in a pinch, he will risk his life to get them out. He will even extract a stubborn Hale if the Hale is in too critical condition.

Tail Ability: Healing Augmentation - Doc can enhance, augment, increase and multiply the regenerative/healing processes of one-self and others. However, Doc does not use this ability on himself out of fear of pissing off his handlers. He is very careful with his ability for if he aided another and the UNAR staff found out about it, then the person's suffering could be worsened. He can use his ability to not only treat physical injuries but certain illnesses and diseases (he cannot cure cancer). Doc can use his ability lethally by over-augmenting the body's natural healing process, causing it to create tumors (he can create cancer however). He can will the tumors to swell to nightmarish and deforming sizes. The worst part, he cannot undo the augmentation once it's happened (in the case of tumors). Doc uses his ability by removing his tail. His tail divides, spreading across his forearms and causing the veins on his arms to glow a bright, vibrant-orange (same color as his eyes). If the victim is within two meters of him, then he can heal them by showing them his palms. His body will radiate an energy that the victim's body will absorb and use to swiftly heal injuries or certain miscellaneous afflictions.

Squad Role: Medic

Background: Nathaniel Blaine lived a middle-class, simple life in a black household. If there was one thing he wished he could have changed about it, it would have been his weight. Nathan had a weight problem since he was a kid, and it was no surprise that his hefty parents would also have a hefty son. He had tried dieting and working out, but it was always so difficult when his mother insisted on cooking soul food (and it was damn good); the bullies at school never ceasing with their taunts; and in result, his lack of motivation. His childhood friend, Evelyn, always had his back. He was thankful to have her for she always ran the bullies off and she did her best to support him despite his own depression keeping him from achieving the results he wanted. As children, they were best friends and as they grew into their teenage years, Nathan started seeing Evelyn as more than just a friend. His feelings for her frightened him. Evelyn as she matured became popular. She always had money to do and get whatever she wanted. What could he possibly give her? He was nothing but a fat piece of shit.

When high school came around, Nathan endured Evelyn dating all the popular and attractive guys at school, and all the same, he was there to pick up her pieces when they would break up. He was her shoulder when she needed it, and he always made sure she got home safely from school. There was one guy who Evelyn dated that Nathan couldn’t put up with, Zachary Nemus. He treated Evelyn like an object, and like her, he had come from a wealthy family and could give her the prom of her dreams. Nathan suspected Evelyn would eventually snap, and when she did, he was there to step in. Nathan might have been the butt of all fat jokes, but that night, the fat boy had wrecked the pretty boy. Zachary Nemus had been the first guy Nathan had ever outright punched, and his face was never the same afterwards. Nathan was sure that Zachary would just have his parents pay for plastic surgery to get his nose corrected, but for the time being, Nathan got to enjoy seeing his work. That same night was the night where Nathan discovered that Evelyn had had similar feelings for him all that time. She had been dating other guys because Nathan had never revealed his love for her. How embarrassing…and at the same time, Nathan found it unbelievable.

Nathan went to the prom with Evelyn, and ever since that night his life got better and better. Post-high school brought along some challenges. He moved out of his parent’s house, got an apartment, and for a while secured a job being a security guard at The Facility just to pay the rent. When Evelyn’s father passed away and her mother moved away, Nathan opened his apartment to her. He was there for her again, and with two mouths to feed, he thought about joining the UNAR Excursion Team to venture out into The Waste looking for whatever. It paid good money and he figured it would have them living luxurious. It wasn’t long before Nathan proposed to Eve. He had an interview for the excursion team next week and a wedding planned for next May. His life was perfect until that one night…

Nathan was pulling a graveyard shift when one of the staff members at The Facility alerted over his radio that something had escaped. They had called it a monster. A monster? Really? He checked over the security cameras and nearly shat his pants when he saw the creature racing through the halls on all-fours and pouncing on whoever got in its way. Security was shutting down the building, locking him in with the thing! Were they crazy? He had to get out of there! Nathan was trapped inside with some thing. He had tried to call the police, call Evelyn, call someone! But The Facility had shut down communications and cloaked the building. While Nathan hid under his desk like a coward, clutching his gun and hoping his wheeled-arm chair would provide some sort of defense, the creature found its way to the security office. It was hungry and Nathan was dreading becoming its next meal. Shit, it probably wouldn’t eat anyone else after him.

The creature found him, and he emptied a whole clip into it as it ripped away the chair and proceeded to maul him. The bullets eventually caused the creature to die and lying in his own blood, Nathan attempted to crawl out from his desk into full view. Someone would have to come for him and help him. He couldn’t die. Evelyn would have been upset. The staff at The Facility had found him sprawled on the floor and struggling to stay conscious.

What should we do with him?

You see his gun over there? Kill him.

Nathan’s eyes widened as one of the suited gentleman found his gun on the floor and pointed it at him. He attempted to empty a round that would end his life forever, but the gun had been out of rounds. Of course, how else did they expect him to kill that thing?

What a lucky guy…bring him. We’ll use him.

Yes, Sir.

The blurry image of a black man was before his eyes before a man with a white beard and brown Mohawk walked over to him and put his lights out with a boot to his face.

Figured I may as well drop my WIP here as well. I'm open to any feedback or suggestions anyone may have. This is obviously subject to change in the future but I'm having a lot of fun coming up with idea's for my character right now!

EDIT: Okay, I tried writing up her backstory and this is what I've come up with. I figure it leaves a few characters open for her to run into in later chapters in hopes that it might be interesting to write those encounters. I'd love any feedback and I'm open to changing, added or cutting anything. I also changed her age. Otherwise, I think she's fairly complete!

Code Name: Primrose.
Age: 24.
Gender: Female.
Height: 5'4.
Weight: 142lbs.
Build: Lithe.
Hair: White.
Eyes: Light grey with a hint of blue.
Skin: Pale.
Scars: Nothing of note.
Tattoos: 029A467S

Basic Description: Primrose is a short, thin little thing. Her abnormally pale complexion, hair and eye colouring gives her a sickly, frail appearance despite her being quite toned and healthy in reality. Her serial number is tattooed high on the inside of her right thigh, running vertically and in a bold black ink, contrasting starkly with her white skin. Her tail is quite thick and covered with long, soft white fur, making it appear bushy and full. Primrose is also used to and is often seen wearing a gas-mask type veil over her mouth, mostly due to the facility's employees worrying over her tail usage regardless of her never having a history of unleashing her ability against anyone at the facility.

Personality: While often assumed to be timid due to her quiet nature, Primrose is actually not shy at all. Instead, she can be quite matter-of-fact and blunt in her attitude when it comes down to it. She tends to get annoyed at small things, but instead of blowing up and letting her rage get the better of her she usually brushes them off and moves on. Her ability to ignore people or things that irritate her are often misinterpreted due to her very selective speaking pattern. It's not that she is unable to speak, just that she doesn't like to. Unless Primrose is around someone she's comfortable with or trusts, or if it is absolutely necessary that she communicates, she won't make a peep. When she does speak, she tends to keep things very short and snippy. As mentioned before, this often causes people to assume she is either shy, due to her physical appearance, or a bit of an uncooperative bitch, due to her behaviour. Primrose's hesitation to speak also comes from the fear of her tail, despite it only effecting her while her tail is active.

Tail Ability: Toxic Respiration - When activated, Primrose's tail disintegrates tip first into a haze of purple-ish smog which she inhales through her mouth or nose. As soon as the tail is inhaled, Prim can breathe out a deadly gas at will and while she can control the amount she exudes, she cannot pause the effect until the tail is back in place at the base of her spine. (Generally though, so long as she keeps her mouth closed, she is safe to be around while her tail is active.) As mentioned, she can measure the amount of gas exhaled as well as the direction/path of the toxin, causing her target to fall unconscious. Primrose can also kill a person with her ability. How the person is effected is purely by inhalation or via Prim managing to seep the miasma into her targets orifices. This act takes a lot of power though; she cannot use it regularly and it can leave her physically and mentally weakened.
Tail Quantity: 1.
Squad Role: The Infiltrator.

Background: Evelyn Delaney lead a fairly luxurious life.  She was born to wealthy parents; her father a higher up in The Facility and her mother working a part time receptionist position in the same company, though that was mainly to keep her occupied while the children attended schooling. Her fathers wages were plenty for the family to be comfortable on. Eve was the youngest child of two other siblings; both boys, one five years older and one 2 years older than her. At the age of fourteen, Evelyn and a close childhood friend started a relationship that would last up until her disappearance. After a few years, her boyfriend and later fiance, secured a job as security for The Facility with the help of her fathers influence. Evelyn didn't know much about his duties and despite being part of a family that owed their livelihood to the company, she knew nothing of how it worked. Her father passed fairly quickly after that to natural causes and Evelyn's mother decided to move far away in order to start a new life soon after his funeral. Things were confusing and raw for a long time; she could never understand her mothers decision and though she had her brothers close by, she always felt a bit of resentment towards her mother for abandoning them. But things had to move on and so did she.

Evelyn moved into her boyfriends apartment after that.

Her fiance disappeared approximately a week after she happily accepted his marriage proposal and it left Evelyn devastated and distraught. Nathaniel Blaine hadn't returned from his graveyard shift and then next morning, when she woke up alone in bed, Evelyn began to worry. She couldn't get any information from his place of work when she inquired about his whereabouts and he hadn't contacted her like he normally would have if he were running late or staying longer than his intended shift. Evelyn spent days chasing a ghost and resorted to kicking up a fuss at The Facility building she knew her fiance worked at. One of her skills was she was pretty good at making a scene when she felt it necessary. It was the day after her 'disrupting the workplace'', as described by the company, that she went missing too. Evelyn was inducted into the Charybdis program and while her brothers may have been questioning her whereabouts or actively looking for her, Eve was gone for good.

Evelyn's appearance wasn't too dramatically changed like many who entered the Charybdis. Her hair was a lush chocolate brown reaching the middle of her back just below her bra strap, not far off it's length now with a similar thick texture. Her skin a healthy olive complexion and she stood at a similar height. Evelyn's figure was much the same too, though it was likely that she weighed a few pounds lighter previous to the Charybdis. Her eyes were a stunning hazel colour with speckles of green throughout the light brown of her iris; her fiance always expressed how much he loved her eyes. Eve was very feminine in style and would always be teased by her fiance as the stereotypical 'girly-girl', something she felt quite defensive about when it happened on a day to day basis. Little did she know she'd come to forget those little moments. When he would whisper sweet-nothings in her ear about how much he loved her, only to come back with a playful jab about her love of pink and flowers. Juggtacular

WIP, still working on his bio.

Code Name:
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Height:  6'4-8'
Weight: 265lbs - 2,000lbs
Build: Muscular
Hair: He usually keeps his hair cut short into a small mohawk.
Eyes: Blood Red
Skin: Caramel Brown
Scars: A horizontal scar across the middle of his throat that resembles a cut from a blade.
Tattoos: 01A9D162 - Right Pectoral

Basic Description: Golem is a massive Hale, standing at 6'4 and weighing a whopping 265lbs. And looking at him, it is obvious to see it is all muscle. This is due to a life of hard work, hardship, and living dangerously. His skin is a soft shade of caramel brown, although there is a very noticeable scar across his neck that catches people's attention. He usually keeps his hair shaved close with a small mohawk, as well as keeping either a clean shave, rough stubble, or a small goatee. His tail seems to be made of some stone/metallic material with a dull blackish color, and has shallow segments every few inches. Like many tails, it's prehensile and he uses it all the time.

Personality: People assume that because Golem is massive and scary looking, that he must be some sort of aggro, alpha male type asshole. That couldn't be further from the truth. Golem is actually what people usually refer to as a "Gentle Giant". When you get to know him, he's actually a pretty nice guy. He's laid back, funny, and a good friend to have on your side. That being said, gentle does not mean pushover. He doesn't take shit from anyone, and if you come to him wrong, you better have a damn good reason of what he did to get you upset in the first place. Unlike many of the others, he actually values his fellow Hales as family, and teammates, but only once they prove it. To him, having someone in your corner in this type of life is paramount to survival, so if you prove yourself to him, you'll have made a friend for life. As a soldier, Golem values success and efficiency. With the appropriate amount of people, anything is possible. So he's the type to turn himself into a shield if it'll help the team.

Tail Ability: Norridium Armor - By removing his tail and draping it over his shoulders, it dissolves into a black, mercurial liquid that is rapidly absorbed through his skin into his body. Once his power is activated, Golem can instantaneously alter his physiological makeup, changing his carbon atoms into some unknown element that seems to be an incredibly resilient fusion of stone and metal the scientists have dubbed "Norridium".

This makes him extremely strong, fast, and incredibly durable against conventional forms of damage.  He can selectively choose which part of himself armors up. Like a hand, or his forehead to increase his striking power and durability with that appendage. It is noticeable by his skin taking on a black, rocky hue with smooth patches; and a dull metallic sheen. However, he can(and usually does) convert his entire body into Norridium. At this point, he becomes an eight-foot tall creature that resembles a stone humanoid(hence the name "Golem") and weighs roughly a ton. His strength is massive and he can wade through enemy assaults like a bullet shield to keep enemies off his teammates. Due to the unique makeup of Norridium, Golem is extremely susceptible to electricity and magnets. He also has to watch his step when fully armored, as his weight is too much for non-reinforced structures to support.

Tail Quantity: 1 – everyone starts with 1 tail.
Squad Role: Heavy Ordinance

Background: "Golem" was born Manu Kalealeoake, a Maori Islander from a surfing dynasty. The Kalealoake's had been big names in the sport since it's inception, and from childhood Manu seemed no different. He surfed, played with his friends; his father even taught him the ways of the Maori. When he was old enough, he sat for his first tribal tattoo, enduring the pain for a period of a combined seven days for it all to be finished. And he debuted his tattoo, at his first official surfing competition.

With the world the way it was, surfing had become a designer spectator sport. It was more than just riding the waves. You had to impress sponsors, complete challenges. Kill the competition sometimes. With the world in such a deplorable state, every sport that needed good weather was simulated. Climate controlled beaches within the domes were the new surf spots. He came in first for his first competition, and although the applause was thunderous, no one had been surprised when they saw his name on the roster. From there his life took off. He became one of the biggest sponsored athletes in the world as he won competition after competition.

In just a few years, he was the face of surfing around the world, and one of the biggest celebrities in the EUR. Eventually, he worked his way up to the world stage. He won the Global Surfing Championships, the biggest surfing event in the world. Competitors went at it for style points, skill, speed, and technique on seven hazardous beaches all over the world; some even created to add extra challenges. He won his first year, and rode all the fame that came with it. For the entire year after, aside from surfing of course, he did interviews, tours, movies, tv spots, everything. His face was everywhere. He was a lock to win the GSC two years in a row, and during the final race, he indeed had front place by a large margin. Then a freak wave suddenly rose from nowhere too fast to react to and swallowed him up. His board eventually popped back up, without Manu. His body was never recovered, and his "death" was called a freak accident. He was taken before his time, given posthumous awards like a star on the Walk of Fame, and more. However it was all for nothing. Manu had been abducted, taken during his triumphant moment. And it seemed, he would never be found.

Obviously, Golem is a massive black man with a closely shaven head. Manu however, was completely different. Well not completely. As a 100% Maori, he too was pretty large, at 6'3, although not quite as heavy. He had long, silky hair that came down to his shoulders, and a plethora of tribal tattoos on his arms, legs, and torso. His eyes were slate gray, and his skin was a light tanned color.

Edit: Ready for feedback and awaiting approval!

Code Name: Muzzle
Age: Late 20's
Gender: Male
Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 220 lbs.
Build: Mesomorph
Hair: Black
Eyes: Hazel, feline pupils
Skin: Tan
Scars: Myriads, cross-stitched scars all over his back. Mostly small with a couple of quite lengthy ones.
Tattoos: 5L0082Z9

Basic Description: Muzzle is tall and well build, with short black hair where the sides are shaved into layers and a thin well-trim goatee for facial hairs. The only tattoo he possesses, is the eight digit code embedded into the back of his neck. Though smooth in front, Muzzle's back is tarnish with scars. Upon closer observation, one could probably notice his cat-like pupils. His thick, furless saurian tail shares the same tone as his skin with multiple slits running down its sides. Muzzle uses the tail often, mostly to grab and carry objects like he would with his hands. Known to have use it efficiently to swing at those he duels with and also sometimes to support his own weight.

Personality: Muzzle have the knack for challenging the authority, almost to the point of defiance. Almost. Sort of his way to test the system and to see how others would react. He's mostly quiet and observant in the researchers' presence but can be quite the talker amongst other Hale. He usually speaks his mind and might be a little too straightforward for his own good. Muzzle believes in looking out for his kind although he never quite trust any and rarely show any emotional respond. But he can be serious and willing to step up the game when called for.

Tail Ability: Energy Blaster - Firearm - Muzzle's tail, when detached, would take a new form — a bulky rifle-like shape with holes along its side, with a pulsating maroon glow from its fist size muzzle — where he could then wield as a weapon. It could fire a rapid pulse of energy spheres — maroon glowing orbs — with a moderate damage capability. However, it is quite draining and not suitable for an engagement over long duration.

Squad Role: Suppressor

Background: Born and raised in UNAR, Steve Coz grew up under the care of his single mother, Annie Carlson. They lived almost on a day to day basis, scrapping rusted metals in exchange for some credits and rations from the streets. Life have been hard and it was almost over for the teenager when he lost his mother one day, to cancer. On the day of her funeral, where neighbors and her old friends were the only ones gathered, he got introduced to an old mechanic, Geoffrey, and her youngest daughter, Laura. They became close and Steve became the old man's apprentice, inheriting his skills and doing a surprisingly good job at being a maintenance man. He also ended up marrying the mechanic's daughter, a pre-school teacher, and by his early 20, he became a father to a baby girl. He's gotten a secure job for one of the biggest company in UNAR through his father-in-law's contact. Their living condition soon changed for the better. Their future, brighter. However, on Sasha Coz's 7th birthday, her father did not return home. Her mother could not get a hold of him no matter how much she pleaded. He was nowhere to be found.

Steve Coz stands at 5'8" and weighed around 180lbs. He's got shoulder length, wavy black hair. Slightly tanned skin tone, brown eyes and of lean built with no tattoos or scars.

So now one female and one male or two females to even the roster. Either way we're golden.

I apologize for taking a while on the back story. I am just too busy to sit and write. It may take me a few days to write it a little at a time, but to give you all some background since I didn't at all explain it in the opening because I wanted to put the writer in the mindset of the characters...

Basically, it is a cliche Mad Max type/Godeater world but then not one lol. There are cities that reside in bubbles or domes to create a sustainable environment within a desolate world. The two largest governments are UNAR (yoo-nar) as introduced in the OP and  European United Republic (EUR (yoo-R)). At this time, I plan for there to be more but in Chapter One UNAR is the main setting.

If your character's past life was under the UNAR government, then those populations are from Canada to Central America.  European United Republic (EUR) is from Western to Eastern Europe to include Turkey. If your character comes from Asia or Africa, then you can write how you would describe those governments. Just expect me to give some critiques. You can write their backgrounds however. If you notice I didn't mention any other countries, then it is because those countries were more than likely evacuated and are no longer inhabited by humans.

My WIP. Hopefully it's good. With backgrounds, was thinking perhaps she would be a diplomat or aristocrat's daughter of some kind.

Code Name: Seraph

Age: 28

Gender: F
Height: 6’1
Weight: 120.
Build: Lithe

Hair: Blue.

Eyes: Silver.

Skin: Tan

Scars: Seraph has a scar running from the bridge of her nose along her left cheek, from an early accident with her abilities.

Tattoos: R23K9N21

Basic Description: Seraph is taller then the average woman, though she weighs less then her height would suggest.  She generally keeps her hair tied back tightly, to keep from interfering with her abilities. She is extremely flexible as well, her body able to twist and bend into different positions while in the air, or hold the same position for a long period of time to maximize speed and wind resistance. Her nose a bit upturned, both figuratively and literally.  Her serial code is tattooed on her left calf. Her tail is thin and wispy; she tends to eschew wearing it as a tail as much as possible.

Personality: Arrogant and stuck up, Seraph firmly believes she is better then the rest of the Hale’s. She tends to avoid socializing as much as possible with those she considers her lesser, and is never without a snide comment or sharp retort to anything she believes is stupid and low brow. She gladly accepts any rewards and treats from doing a job well done, because quite frankly she deserves any and all special attention that she gets and wants. She's more then willing to point out bad behavior or mistakes other people have made in order to garner more favor or special rewards if she thinks it will.

Tail Ability: When detached and absorbed into her spinal column, Seraph’s tail becomes a pair of biomechanical, razor sharp wings. They allow her full flight capabilities, at speeds not fully measured as she hasn’t been able to use them in full open air. She is able to exert control on them when grounded as well, able to extend them out to be used as slicing edges while standing. They are not detachable in any way. She tends to keep them out as much as she is allowed, rather then wearing them as a tail. Trying to run or move while keeping her wings out however can slow her down quite a bit.

Tail Quantity: 1

Squad Role: Recon/Aerial Support

Background: The Imperial Confederacy is what once made up Australia, New Zeland, New Guinea, and Indonesia. A collection of minor domed cities, they thrive on trade with each other to survive, none of them being large enough to sustain themselves invdivudually. But there are still prizes and interests to be had in the Old World, technologies, medicines, technical information. The Confederacy would regularly send out Sweepers, five to a squad, two squads to an airship, and three airships to a team. Sealed in Comhaz Suits, they were prepared for anything.

Ophelia Cadence was on one such squad, nicknamed the Fiends. They had a better then average success rate, and were given longer range missions then most. They could be gone for weeks at a time, seeking the rarest of prizes.  Ophelia was one of the sappers for the squad, and considered nominally in charge most of the time.

While on a mission in what was once considered the Middle East, they ran into a similarly tasked squad from the UNAR. A firefight broke out and a hasty retreat was in order. Ophelia at the time had been working on a breach charge to a secure biological facility, which was set off prematurely due to the commotion. Severly injured and outmaneuvered, she was left, presumed dead. The UNAR forces found her to be alive, though not well. Originally brought back for questioning (a non too pleasant experience,) she was then “recycled” into the Hale program.

All right; looking for one more male or female.

I would normally make little avatars of the character's faces and place them in the approved section but I am still out of town and only have my cell phone. But I will definitely do that when I return.

Do your best to just free style your bios. I will let you know if anything needs to be tweaked but I doubt it will.

la dame en noir

Im definitely interested!
Slowly working on this!

Code Name: The Hale are only known by their code names. They are not given real names.
Age: Twenty-Two
Gender: Female
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 135lbs
Build: Athletically Built

Welcome.

I am going to post another food-for-thought post. I want to just reveal more how much freedom you guys have with this background.

Your character did not have to be of the same race, ethnicity, sex, or build. In your character's past life, they could have been a woman but now in this life, they are a man (or vice versa). The rebirth process is as random as it is in reality. You could have been born as anybody and anything (IRL). Same concept here except your character wouldn't have been born as a non-humanoid. I hope this helps you come up with interesting back stories. Your characters may have to confront their past later. What I mean is, if they had a family, lover, or friend. They may see them again.

Daaaaaaaaame c: Hello! Also hello to everyone else! :p

I will try and get to my background asap.

EDIT: Can we include their previous 'real' name in our backgrounds. I'm trying to flesh some stuff out right now and I'm thinking that since the profiles are written out like they would be in a computer file of the company holding/experimenting on our characters, it should be written out like such, right? So our characters will not remember anything about their lives before, but it will be written in their files. Is that right to assume? I just want to be sure, even if it sounds like a stupid question c:

You can mention their old names in their background. The layout of thr CS has nothing to do with some company computer file. I did my layout the way I wanted to do it. It is just a CS and nothing else.

Two questions:

How old are they when they are taken? Only a few years have passed adn they're adults or were they children and they've been there for ages?

How much do they remember? Are they the same people or were their memories wiped?

Two questions:

How old are they when they are taken? Depends on the age you say they are. Only a few years have passed adn they're adults or were they children and they've been there for ages? All of these characters will be in the same class so if you say (hypothrtically) your character was birthed from Charybdis 300 years ago that is not an option. But in the CS, I give you an age range they are to be as Hale. The game will begin with them already born and having spent probably a month going through this training because as OP says, they were in a group of 100+ that dwindled down to less than 10 Hale remaining.

How much do they remember? Are they the same people or were their memories wiped? They remember nothing. They are no longer the same person. They were born entirely different. I wouldn't worry about memories until Chapter Two if you make it there or I still have the same group of people. Read through some of the OOC where I talk about the background. It should help with the confusion.

I made my comments in bold.

@Rainbow and Lord - I want you guys to explain what your characters looked like before they were taken. UNAR is the name of the nation/government. To refer to The Facility, just refer to it directly. Besides that, both backgrounds are good. I like how you leave it open for someone to play Eve's missing fiance.

Added Golem's backstory and previous description.

The beaches would all have to be artificial because the land outside of the domes is uninhabitable. I'm sure people exist outside the domes but not without mutations and other life-shortening illnesses. Do not forget the setting of this game is Post-Apoc. So I can see surfing being an indoor sport. It would have to be.
