William Wake
Things that are known about William:
- William is an expert marksman. He is easily the best shot in the school and is always good enough to be just better than anyone else he is facing. He makes mistakes of course, but he is usually seen to make these at times when he is not competing.
- William is NOT in the Advanced Spirituality class.
- William does exceptionally well in his classes, and is consistantly in the top 90th percentile of every class he takes.
- William is a solitary sort who rarely goes out of his way to interact with people and might seem an introvert or at least a loner.
- William's parents are dead and he is here on scholarship from the school. Despite this, he maintains a really high ratio of correspondence with a number of people from his village.
Things that are not that hard to find out about William and that some know.
- Many people think William should be in Advanced Spirituality even though no one can point out why. Despite this the Reverend keeps asking him.
- He is friends with Penn.
- He is room mates with Ken and seems to have a degree of respect for him.
- He submitted to get a rather dark and nihilistic thesis for his elective but was rejected.
- He has a knack for appearing at just the right time at just the right place to help make some things that are bad not get worse such as injuries, conflicts and the like.
- He gets a ton of packages.
- His entire village was attacked by monsters and they survived.
- He lived on the streets for a long time before coming to the school and sometimes people think he has criminal skills. If he does, he doesn't respond to requests to pick locks or get things in the school.
- From time to time he receives packages that are VERY nice, much nicer than one might expect for someone with no parents.
- He isn't really a loner or unhinged but seems to be deliberately cultivating an image as such.
Things that the players would know about him
- He has gone out of his way to befriend them once he knew that they had extraordinary abilities.
- He goes to great lengths to conceal his abilities. What those abilities are are known to varying degrees but each of the characters knows there is a lot more to him than meets the eye.
- He is really good at being sneaky. When people turn their head, sometimes he just kind of appears in the corner of their eye.
- Lots of really coincidental things happen around William.
- William has routinely hinted that he knows things that are important to the players and a few others but that the time isn't right to explain why.
- William has some kind of a rather complicated relationship with Penn and it isn't that they're dating. In fact, while he is a one date wonder he doesn't date ANYONE more than once.
- For anyone who he actually trusts, he would have hinted at the fact that he 'helped' defend his village and that's the main reason he is here. Anyone actually investigating with any degree of persistence would find:
William Wake is not supposed to be alive. Neither is anyone of Hordial, Minn. When the monsters came, they were outnumbered sixty to one but somehow they survived. No one in the village would talk about it. Accounts varied wildly. It took the authorities over two years to figure it out, but it was primarily from dogged persistence in getting the people of the village to admit what had happened, and even then, the details were sketchy. Somehow, the child had managed to gather the people together into a coherent force against the monsters. At first, no one listened to his nonsensical suggestions but the ones who did lived and the ones who didn't died. William had sworn them to secrecy, giving each a different story about what had happened; and they'd clung to it. It took another two years to find William and bring him here. His parents are dead; replaced by body snatchers. It is believed that this is what caused him to save the village. It is not known. He is so small and relatively weak that few are certain of how he does what he does. When the authorities finally found him, he did not resist. They told him of the wonderful school and all it could do for him and that he could do in the fight against the monsters. William didn't answer them.
