Appearance

Thomas, or Tom as he prefers to be called, is a all, lanky man with average complexion, brilliant green eyes, and black hair that he wears combed back, ending just below the collar. He often smiles, despite a hint of sadness that seems to linger at the corner of his eyes.

Personality

Thomas is a friendly man. He greets people often whether they return the greeting or not, and he is not shy and is perfectly happy striking up a conversation with a stranger. He loves reading, and is often seen with a newspaper keeping up on local and world events. Co-workers have sometimes accused him of having a mind like an 'encyclopedia', because he loves learning, even as he ages, and retains most of what he is exposed to. He does not anger easily, and is a very protective father.

Ons & Offs

Ons: Strong-willed women, women who give as good as they get, red-heads, light-bondage, detail-filled posts, giving oral sex to a woman, romance. Offs: Scat, waterplay, death, mutilation, one-line posts/responses, Male on Male (nothing against homosexuality, I just don't get anything from RPing it myself).

History

Thomas Barnes was born and raised in Boston. He lived his entire life there, coming from a family devoted to law enforcement. His father was a policeman and his mother a lawyer, Tom lived very well.

Tom went to Boston University immediately after high school, studying Criminology. He was an information magnet, retaining much of what he knew so much that many claimed he had a photographic memory. While that wasn't necessarily true, Tom was very intelligent, always at the top of his class. Tom was also a basketball player, and also kept himself in excellent physical condition.

In his senior year of college, his mother was killed in an auto accident. Several months later, his father was slain in the line of duty while trying to stop a convenience store robbery. Thomas was devastated, but came around quickly, throwing his full life into law enforcement in honor of his parents. He graduated from college and joined the Boston PD as a detective.

Tragedy gave way to blessing, as he met his future-wife, Cindy, immediately after his father's death. Tom was selling-off the family home, and Cindy ended up being his real estate agent. They hit it off immediately, and started to see each other and ended up marrying. The two quickly had a child, a son named Randall.

Shortly after Randall turned seven, it was discovered through various symptoms that he had terminal cancer. This news devastated both Tom and Cindy, even though Randall himself tried to remain strong and upbeat, even as a young child. But as the follow year progressed and the chemotherapy did nothing to help, Randall's condition rapidly began to decline.

Overwhelmed with heartache and grief, Cindy committed suicide the day after the couple learned from Randall's doctor that he had a year or less left to live. Tom and Randy, as they had called him, were drawn closer together by this new tragedy. Instead of falling apart, Randy found strength in his father – truly not wanting to leave him alone after Cindy's passing. By some miracle, Randy lived past the one year mark, and then the second year mark. Though the cancer did not go away, Randy had become stable to some degree, much to the surprise of his doctors. They truly believed it was the bond of father and son alone that allowed Randy to keep living.

But, the doctors were sure that his passing was inevitable. They had seen the very rare case where a patient might live a few years long, but always, without fail – the end was very near.

Tom became obsessed with finding some way to help his son. He tried herbal medicines, new-age methods, spirit-doctors... anything and everything he could. Within a few years he had burned through his inheritance, and eventually came to live month-to-month on a police detective's salary. After two years, Randy's condition began to worsen again.

Tom became desperate, dipping into the occult, doing anything, seeking any possible way to stave off his son's death. As a police detective, he had heard many strange things, most of them from criminals who were high or desperate to avoid being sent to jail.

One such criminal, a cocaine addict that was constantly in rehab and behind bars, told him one day that he had seen a 'vampire', “Like the ones on True Blood!” he had said. No one ever believed a word this man said, but Tom, desperate enough... took down the information, where this man seemed to think he saw one in the flesh. Vampires? He shook his head, laughing at his own insanity. In the stories, Vampires lived forever, or practically so, and they were immune to disease. Desperate times called for desperate measures, and the following Friday, he packed a small bag and made his way to Marshboro.

He would find out if there was any truth to the druggie's story. He knew it was hopeless, knew it was a waste of precious time, but if his son died and Tom had not exhausted -every- possibility, he would live with the guilt of it for the rest of his life.
