Appearance
Sonny is a tall, well-built, muscular male who stands nearly six and a half feet tall with a strong, muscular frame. He wears his coal-black hair long and often unruly, and shaves once a week if he remembers to. His face is very reminiscent of the native eskimo people who live in northern Alaska, and this makes perfect sense being that he is descended from them directly.
Sonny usually dresses plainly and practically. Warm shirts, cargo-style pants, and heavy duty boots usually make up his personal dress-code, topped off with an olive colored heavy jacket for cold weather.
Sonny has a tribal tattoo on his left arm that bears many meanings, but those are private and he only shares them with people he trusts or becomes attached to.
Personality
Sonny is a generally quiet and unassuming guy, but that doesn't mean he lacks passion or energy. He is fiercely loyal to the native Americans who live in northern Alaska, and sees the coming of the 'white man' as both a good and bad sign. He detests those who seek to exploit his people and the land that his people have called home for generations, but on the other hand he is mature enough to realize that not all outsiders are evil.
He is quick to laugh when warranted, and loves good-natured fun. Sonny is also very curious, which might be one way he might find himself in trouble someday – often he is curious to the point that he can't help it.
Sonny does his best to believe in the 'goodness' of people, but has seen first-hand the greed and selfishness that can strike a person who is only out for themselves.

History
Sangilak, which means, “Strong”, of the family Taqukaq, which means 'Bear', was born in an eskimo village near Deadhorse, Alaska, in 1987. His parents, both native eskimos, were both werebears as well. They lived off the land despite the endless difficulties and challenges, much like their ancestors had done for generations before them.
When Sangilak was about ten years old, a small group of outsiders from a place called 'New York' arrived. One or two of the village elders spoke the human 'English' tongue to some degree, so were able to converse with the outsiders. They claimed to be from some group of people who were fearful for the exploitation of Alaska's northern oil fields, and exploitation of the eskimos themselves. These outsides were allowed to stay, as they began documenting the lives of Sangilak's people.
These journalists ended up staying for several years. Curious Sangilak got to know each of them very well, and in time, they nicknamed him 'Sonny', and taught him English, and also shared with him knowledge about the mystical world they came from, far to the south. Occasional deliveries would arrive for the outsiders from time to time, and slowly but surely various technologies were introduced, and those were met with only some trepidation as they arrived.
The journalists eventually departed, but promised that more would come to continue learning about them. It was through the efforts of these journalists that many parts of the northern Alaskan wilderness was annexed as park-land and rendered off-limits to the oil companies.
Not every area was so lucky. Several places were purchased or 'rented' by various oil-companies who began sucking the 'black gold' from the ground at an alarming rate.
More outsiders did arrive at Deadhorse, and studies continued. Sonny became attached again to the visitors, his curious nature drawing him to these people quickly, and he was able to learn much. One of them, a Japanese woman, taught him many things – but in bed and out. The fondest memory he has of her is the hobby she taught him – origami, something he saw her tinkering with the first night she had arrived.
Sonny was informed about his transformations when he was merely 11 years old. Aware of it, and with guidance form his parents, the initial stages were not nearly as traumatic as they might be for others. He quickly learned control of his other shape, and like his parents before him he did not consider it a 'curse', but rather a 'blessing'.
When Sonny came of age, his father charged him with journeying out to explore, to see what the outsiders were doing to other lands in the north. Not so much 'spying' as 'learning'. The natives wanted to be aware of what was going on around them. Sonny, curious as ever, eagerly looked forward to this, and set out quickly to learn about the outsiders, their ways, and what they were really doing in the area.
Sonny can perform various odd-jobs, especially if strength is required. He also apprenticed to a small group of oil-rig workers near the Al-Can pipeline, and quickly learned everything he could about the job.
He also has served as a guide on many occasions. He knows the area very, very well, and knows how to confront anything, -dangerous- or otherwise.
Sonny currently finds himself in Nuiqsut, working as a part-time oil-rig worker, guide, and translator when needed to speak with a native.
