Shamar's red hair and freckled complexion comes from the fact that she is a direct female line descendent of one Sorka Hanrahan and Sean Connell - Both Redheads! Red hair being a genetic recessive it only shows up when the gene combination is right and so the fact that both her parents are blonde should not be a surprise. She is 5'2" tall and weighs 178 Lbs. Her freckles go all the way down to her feet.

Personality
Shamar is the sort of person best described as "A force to be reckoned with". If she had ever impressed, it would have been a Gold and she would have become The Weyrwoman with ease. It is her opinion that she never did impress because a green, blue or brown dragon could not abide her forcefulness, but she would not have tolerated the duties of a gold rider. Of course this was all speculation on her part: The dragons choose whom they choose and that is the end of the matter. And none of them chose her!
She rules the Weyr's lower caverns with a rod of iron, and has been know to raise her hand to the youngsters working there whether of high or low birth with equal impunity. Shamar is only afraid of one thing and that is the rumoured imminent return of Thread. She has absolutely no issue with standing up to Weyrleaders, Weyrwomen, Lord and Lady Holders, or Master Crafters in order to get her own way. She has a temper on her, and has been known to have shouting matches with anyone from the Weyrleaders on down! Her loyalty is to Igen Weyr and Pern, and her presence in the Lower caverns is something that Dtagon riders and weyrfold alike can rely on to be solid.
In spite of all her faults or perhaps even because of them, Shamar is compassionate when needed, caring, big hearted and warm. Those who respect her are wise, those who love her are few.
History
Shamar is Weyrbred, the daughter of Sh'leram and Maralonie, Bronze and Gold riders respectively. She was fostered to the Weaver hall when she was eight, only to have a bitter fight with an apprentice Weaver several turns later and returned to the Weyr in some disgrace. The enmity between the two has lasted ever since.
Shamar likes Weyr life, she enjoys the freedom she has here to enjoy the girls who work for her - even in these enlightened times such activity would be no more than tolerated in Hold and Hall. But while she enjoys the life she never really wanted to become a dragon rider. She was made to stand for impression as a candidate at every hatching from her sixteenth birthday to her twenty fourth, at which point, to her everlasting relief, her parents reluctantly concluded that she would not impress.
In the mean time, Shamar had been learning everything she could from the then Headwoman, on how to keep the Weyr running. She would often suggest improvements and innovations, and over the turns has earn the respect - if not the love - of successive Weyr Leaders. When the preceding Headwoman retired five turns ago, she immediately and unhesitatingly nominated Shamar as her successor, a nomination which none dared challenge. Since then, Shamar has ruled Igen Weyr as the power [i]behind[/i] the Weyrleaders.

Julera is 5'6" tall, and weighs around 129 Lbs. her dark, almost black hair and olive toned skin betrays her Telgar Hold blood line. She is fairly boyish in her figure, and has occasionally be mistaken for a man, especially when wearing flying gear. Her eyes are a deep, rich hazel, almost chocolate colour. Her ears are pierced and she often wears quite gaudy earrings, betraying a relationship to Pern's Trader craft in her blood. This also comes across in her choice of clothing witch tends to be loud and flamboyant. Her fingers are calloused, she wears her fingernails long, and there are several small scars on her hands.

Personality
As might be discerned from her likes and dislikes, Julera is a jolly and fun-loving soul. She is always the life and soul of any party, and is quick to burst into song. She is never without her cherished guitar and is always happy to strum out a tune for people to dance to. She loves a good joke, even if played on her, but watch out - she is very mischievous and has a wicked sense of humour. Play a prank on her and she will be certain to get you back.
She is unashamed of her sexuality and is more than relieved that Teth has thus far shown no inclination to chase any green dragon, because although there are some female green riders she rather likes and indeed has bedded, she would be rather caught out if her dragon were to chase and catch a green bonded to a male rider.
As the Weyrharper she fulfils a dual role of entertainer and educator. Entertainment by performing songs such as "Little Queen All Golden" and others by the famous songwriter Menolly; Education by performing and instructing in the traditional teaching ballads such as "Drummer Beat and Piper Blow" and "Dragonmen Must Fly", or the historical ballads like "Moretta's Ride", "Lessa's Ride" (Which begins with the haunting "Where have all the dragons gon"), "Jaxom and Ruth", and even the other Menolly song "A Cry In The Night". Of these her favourites are the entertainment songs. She feels personally that many of the teaching ballads are now anachronistic. While she likes the historical ballads, many of them are quite sad and it goes against her personality.
As Weyr-timer it is her responsibility to ensure that weyrlings do not accidentally discover the ability to go between times, and that they are taught how to do so properly and safely, and also taught the consequences to abusing the ability. This is about the only thing she takes seriously as she has witnessed first hand the appalling consequences of failure.
History
Julera was born to a minor Holder in Telgar called Juman and his wife Lerisa. She was identified as a talented musician at age eight by the Master Harper at Telgar Hold during a gather, when she was singing along and having a thoroughly good time. The master asked her if she could play any musical instruments and she said that she was learning guitar from her mother - who had learned it from the harper on the trader train where she grew up. The master loaned Julera his guitar and she began to play a piece by ear that he had played moments earlier, and which was really too advanced for her.
The harper immediately had her transferred to the Harper Hall, where she was taught all the skills of being a Harper of Pern - both musical and political.
When she was eighteen and due to walk the tables she was brought to Igen Weyr to attend a hatching and be part of the entertainment troupe. She was intrigued by the small white egg and with Iselith's permission, the day before the hatching, had walked over to it and asked the Weyrwoman what would happen to it? She was told that ever since Ruth, any such eggs were carefully broken open to give the white dragon within a chance of life. Many were stillborn anyway, and few survived to adulthood.
Julera had said that was sad, and had left the hot sands. The following day, as the dragons sang their own greeting to the hatchlings, she watched from the stands as each impressed. And then finally the weyrwoman took a small golden hammer and cracked the shell on the white egg. And in that moment, Julera knew she was loved, she would never be lonely ever again, and as she had made her way, almost in a daze, out of the stands, the little white creature looked at her and made a soft creeling sound.
'My name is Teth, I'm hungry! Please will you feed me?'
From that day forward, Julera was transferred to Igen Weyr, becoming Journeywoman Weyrharper. She learned to look after Teth, and at the same time learned the duties of a white dragon rider. It was during her time as a weyrling that she had the horror to experience what can happen when someone tries timing it and bumps into themself... It is not an experience she cares to dwell on.
As soon as she was able she returned to the Harper Hall with Teth - in fact, on Teth, to complete her Harper training, but her home now is Igen Weyr.
Any Other Info
She is really adept at playing guitar, and has the most amazing singing voice, but her skills at making a guitar - a requirement for all instrumentalists to be able to make their own instrument - are not good, hence the scars on her hands, her love and care of the guitar she has, and her dislike of the master. It took her four times as long to make the instrument as if should have and the wood is baptised in her blood, sweat and tears!

Teth stands a little over 8' high at the shoulder, which is large for a white dragon - he is almost as large as some greens. Unlike the first white dragon, Ruth, who's hide would glisten in all colours in bright sunlight, Teth's hide is a pure uniform gloss white.

Personality
Teth is quite a lot like his rider in that he is generally a very cheerful dragon. His eyes are mostly green or blue and will often be whirling fast in those colours. Like his rider he loves a good joke and has more than once been scolded for playing pranks on more senior dragons. He loves listening to music, even though he has no real appreciation for it, and has been know to hum along tunelessly, bobbing his head totally against the tempo, when Julera sings or plays.
Teth is as fascinated by firelizards as they are by him and he is always happy to be surrounded and groomed by them especially after swimming on a hot summers day. The only think that really makes his eyes go purple or yellow is when he and Julera are teaching weyrlings the correct procedure for timing, especially if they refuse to listen.
History
Teth's earliest memory is of a pale, soft light, a feeling of being trapped, and a presence calling to him. He was aware that he could not breath, that he was unable to escape from his egg and that he would certainly die. He was quickly becoming afraid, when a sudden sharp blow from outside released him. He struggled free and immediately found the love of his life, his bond-mate, Julera, coming towards him. From that time no, he has never been afraid ever again, so long as Julera is near.
When he was two turns old, he went between with his rider to the Harper Hall. While there he also spent some time at Fort Weyr, but preferred Igen because it has better hunting and fishing. Most of his time at the harper hall was spent lounging on the Hall's fire-heights - which were horribly overgrown with moss, he couldn't help noticing - playing with the many firelizards that always attended him and learning to enjoy Julera's music.
His return to Igen Weyr was probably the second happiest event in his life so far, even though shortly after he returned he was unable to prevent the training accident that killed a young dragon and rider. However he knows it was not his fault, and so has no guilt over it. Instead he has learned to enjoy life in the Weyr, along with his new role of Weyr-Timer, keeping the young dragons from timing without proper supervision.
He also enjoys practical jokes and has been known to use his inherent ability to play tricks on such austere people as the headwoman and the weyrleaders themselves. In one rather strange incident a holder lad from a minor Igen hold had been exploring in the mountains and fallen into a cave and become trapped. He was able to describe what was around him in sufficient detail that Teth was able to go between into the cave and rescue the lad.
At ten turns old, Teth is now quite a mature dragon and although he will never equal the coloured dragons in size or stature, he is almost as large as the smaller green dragons. He is quite aware that he could fly one in a mating flight, but simply has no desire whatever to do so.

As with all white dragons, Teth always knows exactly where and when he is, and can go between places and times with no referent image from his rider.
