Captain Kira-Leon LeClaire's assignment to the Destiny's Edge, the most advanced and powerful warship ever built by humans, couldn't have come at a worse time. Just as the massive battlecruiser was launched, an alien invasion fleet swamped humanity's defences. Destiny's Edge, in a desperate manoeuvre to avoid certain destruction, moves too close to a massive black hole, and falls too deeply into its grip. Locked in time by the massive gravitational forces, it is spared the ignominy of witnessing the invaders' victory, and the collapse of humankind.
200 years later, a pair of escaped slaves risk everything to pull the Destiny's Edge out of the black hole's embrace, hoping the derelict can be salvaged and made into a safe, new home for them and others like them. They are shocked to discover a survivor of the former crew, and he intends to rekindle the war of two centuries ago. And this time, he intends to win.
