Appearance
Matthew's smile can charitably be described as mischievous, or more accurately as predatory. He looks at people the way a normal person might look upon a steak, and that can make the occasional person uncomfortable. His body is supple, but calling him toned might be a bit kind. He tends to stick to a style of "half-groomed," his hair parted over but still looking a bit unkempt, wearing nice button-up shirts but not tucking them in. His look ensures that he just kind of fits in anywhere while never really blending in.
Personality
Matthew definitely has a zest for life, almost to the point of hedonism. He's very accepting of who he is, and, by extension, very accepting of others, though initially that acceptance is more indifference. It takes him a long time before he begins to view others as anything more than something that can be used. Once those connections are formed, he can be a very thoughtful person, but until then he will definitely be selfish.

History
Matt grew up in Texas, famous for beef bbq, open areas, and minor anti-government sentiment. Unfortunately, it also tended to house rather closed-minded people, something that bothered Matt considerably as he began learning more about himself. It turned out he had a rather considerable sex drive, and that the small town girls he encountered were just too much work to enjoy. Besides, reputations spread a little too quickly. In the end, Matt ended up letting that desire of his take a backseat as he went to college, earning his CPA certification.
With college complete, he decided to take up a new life somewhere else, making his way to Florida and getting a job with an accounting firm. The work sucked, and after paying on his loans, left very little money to spend. He lost about ten years of his life doing that, eventually transferring to a location in Georgia. The situation there wasn't any better, but it did mean living somewhere where the age of consent was 16, something that made up for a bit of job dissatisfaction. Some combination of his work and his hobby put him in contact with a rather odd man named Rod. Rod was wealthy, and knew what kind of life Matt wanted for himself. Confession were made; deals were struck; blood was lost.
The decision was almost immediately regretted. Roderick (his actual name) had failed to mention that he had the ability to almost completely control him, such was the influence the elder vampire had over the childe's mind. In addition, what Matt had thought to be a chance meeting with a sexy vampire named Meg hadn't quite worked out as planned. She seemed to go back and forth between wanting to have him and wanting to kill him. It turned out that she, too, had been a victim of Roderick's influence (as well as Matt's, which he'd not known he had the ability to do until later). Eventually, however, she seemed to generally warm up to him, and the two spent a great deal of time enjoying each other.
Roderick effectively had two junior vampires taking care of dirty work for him, but he was a bit overconfident in the level of control he had over the two. Meg had been slowly working on Matt, and it wasn't long before she'd talked him into letting down his guard one night, and that was all she needed. The next night, Roderick was dead.
Surprisingly, Meg stuck around after that, the two of them possibly spending even more time together. Several years flew by in complete bliss before she moved up north. Taking a hint, Matt went west and found himself in Louisiana, where he, through trips to various strip clubs, learned about the Coven in New Orleans.
