Appearance
At six feet and seven inches, Malik is a hulking man, a walking wall of muscle. His long hair is usually messy, whether he leaves it down and hanging wild around him, or he keeps it tied up in a “manbun” atop his head to keep it out of his face. His eyes are hazel and can appear as any color between pale green and deep, fathomless blue. He often prefers to wear clothes typical of a lumberjack or mountain man, worn jeans and plaid shirts combined with work boots. When others opt for heavy jackets in the winter, it’s not uncommon for Malik to choose not to wear them, his Kodiak blood always seeming to run hotter than the average person, insulating him against the frigid cold. Malik keeps a well maintained beard that he rarely allows to become scraggly or grow out too much.

Personality
Malik is a quiet, introverted man who values his privacy and keeps to himself even when surrounded by other people. In spite of his size, he is something of a gentle giant, with a soft spot for those unable to protect or care for themselves. Being a shifter that is native to Alaska, he loves the wilderness surrounding his home, and has been known to spend days, sometimes even weeks, out in the wilds alone. He does come in to town to sell his wares and do his shopping, along with the occasional stop off at the local watering hole after a long day’s work, but given his intimidating size and his introverted nature, it’s rare he gets many people approaching him for conversation or friendship. At his core, Malik is the type to want a single lasting partner in life, but he recognizes how unlikely this is for him and how unusual. He’s had a few human lovers over the years, and usually stays with them until either they end it or they pass out of this world, but has yet to find someone who will last anywhere near as long as he will.
Ons & Offs
Mine Malik is a serial monogamist, in that he will only date one woman at a time. His style as a lover adapts to the partner he has, though he never allows himself to be submissive to his partner.
History
Born in the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness, Malik is the son of a Native shifter and a human who had been dragged along by family during their intrepid search for a homestead. While his grandparents disowned his mother for marrying a native man, Malik was born to a pair of loving, accepting parents. Unfortunately, Malik was a large baby and with the dangers already attached to natural childbirth, his sheer size left his mother in severe condition. She never truly recovered from her first pregnancy, and so Malik had no other siblings.
Growing up around his father’s tribe, Malik spent most of his life learning what was to come for him when he came of age, as well as learning the trades of his people. He learned how to bring down trees, treat wood, and shape it in to the things the tribe needed most, as well as how to fish and hunt in the wilderness that surrounded their home.
When his shifting time came, his father and other members of the community who were shifters left their village and traveled in to the wilderness, joining with the natural Kodiaks that made the place their home. There was the occasional territorial spat between shifter and bear when a member of the tribe wandered in to the wrong area during their outings, and Malik witnessed more than one of his tribe die in a fight for their life, or come back to the village wounded. Fortunately for him, he has managed thusfar to avoid terrible altercations, partly due to the fact that humans have been encroaching on Kodiak territory, forcing the bears to learn to be closer to each other in recent years.
Malik has never left the state he was born in and honestly shows little interest in traveling outside of it. His joining a community with creatures other than fellow Kodiak shifters is due to little more than necessity. Over the years, most of his father’s people died off or moved to be part of civilization as it came closer and closer and fishing boats and ships began to cut in to the natural resources of their people. With little left in his village, Malik set out to find a place near people that would allow him to live peacefully without being too close to people in physical proximity, as he still prefers his own space. Though he’s able to live around other Kodiaks easily, their solitary nature requires adequate space be left between themselves and their dwellings, so during the parts of the month where the moon isn’t full, he lives in a cabin a few miles outside of Nuiqsut, a place he was lucky enough to find was a haven to supernatural types.
Though he can hardly be called an important or central figure in the community, he’s certainly hard to miss, with his towering size and unparalleled strength. He’s also been there long enough that even if people aren’t familiar with him as a person, everyone knows him and who he is. His hand-crafted furniture is features in many homes and businesses in the small town, and he’s always looking to take on custom projects. He’s also been known to hand-carve toys for local children when there are any.
