Appearance
Average height and about five pounds skinnier than she should be, unruly hair thrown back into a ponytail, glasses constantly slipping down her nose, and clothes usually rumpled. She’s got the usual number of scars from childhood mishaps involving trees, no tattoos, and a belly button piercing from a drunken dare that she’s too squeamish to risk taking out. Her imitation of a kicked puppy is legend, as is her disapproving eyebrow raise. Basically, she’s every inch the stereotypical fragile geek, except more adorable.
Personality
Too smart for her own good, observant, and blunt besides, Kie is the snarky devil’s advocate in most situations and tends to make those around her uncomfortable. Most assume that she’s a misanthrope or just a jerk, but really she just doesn’t see the point in following social niceties at the expense of the truth. For those who can get over her lack of social delicacy, she’s a good friend: unfailingly loyal, a surprisingly good listener, and generous with her time and attention. She would very much like to have a meaningful romantic relationship, but is neither adept at nor interested in playing the romantic reindeer games. Kie has a soft spot for animals, a dry sense of humor, and a deep love for academia and shiny gadgets.

cougar
Ons & Offs
Intelligence is a must. Since Kie has no patience for emotional games, those who try to play them are instantly annoying in her book. She appreciates honesty to the point of bluntness. While she likes sex, it's hard for her to participate in casual encounters and so she's mostly given up on the practice. O/O
History
On her sixth birthday, Kie jumped out a third story window and broke her arm in two places on the landing. Most would assume this was an act of childhood stupidity, but as Kie later explained patiently to the doctor in the ER, she’d done it to get out of the dinner party that night where she would be paraded before all of her parents’ friends as that ‘preciously precocious child’. She would much rather go with her nanny to the ER and stop at McDonald’s on the way back. Likely, this event should have garnered more attention than it actually did, since this was the pattern her life followed for a long time.
She grew up not with parents, but with a long string of nannies and maids who took varying levels interest in her life. The Matthews family was well off, prestigious, and given the best of everything that money could buy. By the time she was in school (private, of course, and the best on the east coast at that) most assumed she led a charmed life. Nominally this was true, but of course nothing is how it seems on the outside. The young heiress was lonely and achingly aware that her peers were only interested in her insofar as her family's prestige and wealth.
A blessing came in the form of her teachers. Used to the unintelligent or uncaring entitled brats of rich people, the teachers at her school were delighted to discover that not only was Kie quite intelligent...she was also desperate for knowledge. She raced through school, often taking classes and assignments that were up to four grade levels ahead of where she was ‘supposed’ to be.
By the time she graduated high school at the age of fifteen, she was disenchanted with people but in love with academia. She attended Harvard and graduated in four years with a double major in folklore and computer science. Afterwards she decided to leave the country. Among the many jobs Kie applied for was one organizing a massive library for a reclusive multi-billionaire in Scotland, and upon getting the job she promptly left for the UK.
Her new employer, MacDougal, turned out to in fact be a cougar shifter who'd been turned during the last year of the Seven Years War. During his time in the then English Colonies, he'd served as a commander who was captured by a tribe allied with the French. He was bitten during his escape, but survived the transformation that followed. Kie hersel proved to be an apt student and a quick hand at the job. Though she finished within a year, she stayed on a companion.
Eventually, Kie discovered that she had Huntington’s disease. MacDougal was horrified by the thought of losing such a bright young mind, and offered to transform Kie. As she had no particular connections aside from her employer mentor, she accepted. She stayed with MacDougal for another year, learning how to control her new form, before finding out about a job opening with the Alaska Coven.
As always, Kie's natural curiosity prevailed. The idea of a town hosting a open community of vampires, werecreatures, and humans was too much temptation to possibly resist. Hoping to learn more about vampires and the general supernatural world than might be provided by her admittedly eccentric Sire, Kie went back to America in order to become the communications specialist for the Alaska Coven.
