Aspects of Force powers

The Force had a range of powers that functioned in accordance to fundamental attributes that were cardinal in nature, and categorized by the way in which a user was able to focus on the Force while using an ability. The aspects of the Force were divided into Control, Sense, and Alter by the Jedi Order. Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force Under these three themes were several core abilities, that could be expanded upon and changed, depending on the user. Stemming from the core ability were several different ways to manipulate the Force, some of them mainstream within the Jedi and Sith teachings, others personally developed and unique.

Control

The Jedi Order's teaching method began with the aspect of Control, taught to Jedi Initiates as a way to open their minds to the Force and establish a base point for further development. The theme of Control was centered on the ability to control one's own body, as self control was the starting point for all Jedi teachings. Development of these skills would continue throughout a Jedi's life, as the basics of all other disciplines of Force use began here. One of the most well known side-effects of mastering the discipline of Control was prolonged life and the avoidance of decay. Three main abilities were centered around Control: tutaminis (Energy Absorbtion), "curato salva (Self Healing), and altus sopor ( ability to increase a user's focus on the Force). These three umbrella abilities incorporated many of the abilities Jedi used throughout their service to the Republic.

  • Alchaka

The Alchaka meditations were a rigorous series of highly personal, highly repetitive exercises using both physical and Force skills. Consisting of a high number of repetitions performed in complex positions and dizzying movements spaced between the positions, completing the meditations correctly typically left the practitioner on the brink of exhaustion. The purpose of the Alchaka technique was to clear the mind and attune the body to the strength of the Force, and was considered an advanced form of Moving Meditation.

  • Art of Movement

It was essentially what it sounded like: a higher form of movement developed for use by the Jedi Order. The Order trained their younglings in this art by means of an obstacle course. A reflex and agility exercise; students were ordered to traverse a difficult obstacle course within the Temple, while avoiding beams of light cast from the ceilings, walls, and floors.

  • Breath control

Using the Force power, breath control, a Jedi could literally numb the body's instinct to shut itself down after long periods without oxygen, allowing the user to be able to go without breathing for longer periods than he or she ordinarily could by using the Force to reserve the amounts of air in the lungs. It was believed that some users of the technique could hold their breath for hours or even days with this power. This ability used independently, however, would not prevent anything entering or leaving the respiratory system of the user. In some cases, the user would require some kind of Force barrier in, or around the nose/throat region to keep poisonous gases or water out. The necessity of such a barrier would depend on the air/water pressure in the direct vicinity, and the user's ability to naturally seal their airways. This was a very effective ability in situations where the air was very thin, underwater, or in any environment with toxic fumes.

  • Center of Being

Center of Being was a stance used in lightsaber combat. It could also be used for meditation. The stance was used by members of the old Jedi Order. Users of this stance would hold the lightsaber horizontally, with the lightsaber hilt just below the chin. The meditative stance would find use in combination with more passive and defensive forms. One who fell deeply into this style could almost unconsciously defend from even the most flowing random attacks and feints.

  • Detoxify Poison

Detoxify Poison was a Control-based Force power that allowed a Force-user to detoxify poisons or eject them from their body in a much shorter amount of time than would normally be possible. It could also be used to cleanse their body of alcohol, allowing the individual to remain sober while consuming vast amounts of the drink.

  • Flashburn

Flashburn was a term used by the Jedi Order to describe the reaction in which certain Jedi or Force-sensitives shutdown areas of their minds in reaction to emotional trauma. With sections of their memory seemingly ceasing to exist, those who used the technique were unable to remember details about the event at the center of the trauma.

  • Force Body

Force Body was a type of Force technique which allowed any Force-sensitive to push their body's endurance past a safe limit, ignoring and possibly sacrificing their health and well-being, in order to sustain their connection to the Force. Very powerful connection to the force was required for this abilities use. With this, a Jedi could live through what would otherwise kill them.

  • Force Enlightenment

When activated, this power took the Force powers a Jedi was most skilled in, pushing them to the highest degree that the Jedi had previously mastered during his or her routine training. The end result was an "enlightened" Jedi, having unlocked and harnessed fully the light side of the Force.

  • Force ghost

The Force ghost was the soul and essence of a deceased Force-sensitive who denied the will of the Force upon death, yet was able to interact with the living, albeit not physically. Some Sith Lords learned similar techniques, which in some cases allowed them to physically interact with their environment.

  • Force healing

Force healing, Force heal, or Cure was a power that used the Force to accelerate the natural healing process rapidly. Initial levels required meditation, but greater aptitude usually granted faster regeneration, without need of meditation. Greater levels of attainment were also able to mend far more severe injuries, even complete damage to flesh and bone, even going as far as to mend internal damage, such as damage to the heart, lungs and so forth. This was shown in a more perverse form by Darth Vader, but was properly utilized by the most skilled of Jedi. However, there were limitations, stemming if not from the nature of Force healing, then at the very least from the individual, as Force-users were not seen to regenerate lost matter. Jedi healers used this power to diagnose and treat the ailments of their patients.

  • Force speed

Force speed, also known as burst of speed or Force sprint, was a core Force power that allowed the user to maintain sprinting speeds for a brief time. Greater aptitude granted greater boosts to speed and/or greater duration. The increased speed of the Force-user enabled the individual to see the world and the entities around them in slow motion, allowing them to dodge attacks easily and attack quicker with greater accuracy.

  • Force stealth | Also known as Force Concealment

Force stealth also referred to as Force Concealment or Buried Presence was a power that was used by highly skilled Force-sensitives to mask their Force alignment (Light or Dark), their ability to use the Force, or even their entire presence from other Force-sensitives.

  • Hibernation trance

Hibernation trance was a control-based ability that slowed the user's metabolism and breathing to a standstill, causing the individual to only use one tenth of the air of a normal individual. To all outward appearances, the individual appears to be dead; only thorough testing would determine that they were alive. Individuals using stethoscopes would be able to detect a faint heartbeat if they listened intently enough, and life sensors would register a slight flicker. Other Force users with training in the Sense skill would be able to sense the hibernating individual in the Force and know they were not dead. A fully trained Force-user could stay in this state for up to one week in a dry climate or one month in a wet climate before dying from lack of water. By hooking themselves up to an intravenous water drip, they could extend the duration indefinitely. Individuals could hibernate for up to three months before dying of starvation; the application of an intravenous sugar-solution drip could extend the hibernation period to a year. A hibernating Force-user would appear dead to all but another Force-user. This could lead to potentially dangerous results for the hibernating individual if nobody was aware of the truth. To avoid such situations, the person in a hibernation trance could provide a trigger phrase that, if recited by another person, would bring the Force-user out of the trance. Trained force-users could also use a similar technique to place others in a hibernation trance. The target had to be a willing ally. The force-user touched the ally to place him into the trance. The ally would then benefit from the effects of the hibernation trance. The ally could not emerge from the trance on his own; he relied on the force-user to bring him out of it.

  • Morichro

Similar to a Force trance, morichro suspended biological functions, including breathing and heart rate. A trained morichro user could turn the technique upon himself, surviving without food, water, or even air for periods of over a year at a time, though it would not protect against vacuum. But unlike a Force trance, it could also be turned on others, making it an effective way of subduing enemies. However, failure to monitor a targeted opponent could render them permanently unconscious or cause them to die of dehydration or starvation. Despite its deadly potential, morichro was not practiced by those who used the dark side, as it required a mastery of a less malicious use of the Force than most darksiders traditionally employed.

  • Tapas

Utilizing Tapas to retain one's body heat was used by Jedi in hostile environments, such as vacuum. If a Force-sensitive knowledgeable in Tapas found themselves in a cold environment, they could draw on the Force to keep themselves warm.

  • Force cloak | Cloak of Shadow

The technique of cloaking oneself in the Force was one practiced by Force-sensitive individuals since the early days of the Galactic Republic. A rare ability, a Force-user would call upon their mastery of the Force to photo-kinetically bend light and sound waves around themselves, rendering them invisible to visual and audio detection. This skill tends to come to people as more of a natural talent, for it is extremely difficult to learn otherwise; thus, the reason the ability is rarely seen. As the technique physically bent light like a cloaking device, this power could be used to evade being detected not only by living beings, but also beings normally immune to Force-based illusions such as droids and the Yuuzhan Vong. While highly effective when practiced properly, maintaining such a cloak was extremely taxing and the concentration needed to make a convincing shroud could diminish the worth of employing the technique. Like all Force-based abilities, no single method existed to cloak oneself. An alternate version which did not involve a command over light and sound was an advanced form of mind trick or Force persuasion. In this way, a user affected the minds of those around them, removing all traces of their presence from the mind of observers and allowing them to move completely unnoticed while in plain sight. Unlike other methods of cloaking, droids and other nonliving individuals could not be fooled by a mind trick.

Sense

Classified as Sense abilities by the Jedi Order, these techniques were taught to Padawans to broaden the scope of their Control abilities. Dipping into a deeper understanding of the Living Force, Sense abilities allowed Force-wielders to immerse themselves in the environment. By the end of their apprenticeship, Padawans were expected to use the Force as an additional sense, constantly attuned to the undulation of the Force. The Jedi Order saw the Sense abilities divided into four main groups: prima vitae, tactus otium (Force discipline which had to do with the future, past and present; using the Force to sense out everything that might and might not occur, precognition at its most basic levels.), Psychometry|tai vordrax/psychometry (Force power that was a mental technique of picking up impressions and traces of information about the object touched and the events that have surrounded it), and projected telepathy (Telepathy was the very basic ability to mentally communicate over small or vast distances with other individuals). While there were many other styles to the Sense family, these were considered the most vital to Jedi teachings.

  • Theran Force-listening | Force Listening

Theran Force-listening was a Force technique used by the Theran Listeners to hear through the Force. With it, Force-sensitives could understand words in another language or listen to beings talking from a distance.

  • Force meld

Force Meld, otherwise known as Jedi meld or Battle meld, was a technique where a number of Force users joined their minds together through the Force, drawing strength from each other. A refinement of battle meditation, it was known to the ancient Jedi, though dangerous. While battle meditation could influence both the Force-sensitives and the insensitives of both sides, Force Meld concentrates on coordinating and improving the Force-sensitives of the user's side.

  • Force sense

Force sense was among the most basic of Force abilities. It could be used to feel another being's feelings, the future, ripples in the Force caused by momentous or traumatic events, impending danger and the presence of the dark side. A more concentrated, more directed form of this ability was likely how Jedi and Miralukas were able to see others without relying on their physical senses.

  • Precognition

The ability of foresight was perhaps universal to the Jedi or Force-sensitives and was manifested in the form of Force visions of future events, or helped the Jedi predict their opponent's movements.

  • Precognition | Battle Precognition

Battle Precognition was a variant of precognition that allowed one to sense the flows of the Force. The Echani were known to possess a variant of this ability which did not draw from the Force but from the warrior's own instincts. The most elite Echani warriors were able to predict battles and even the course of a war. It was probable that such outcomes grew more likely or unlikely as critical moments approached and passed.

  • Shatterpoint

Shatterpoints were a complex Force phenomenon, perceivable only by an unknown innate talent or immense focus and concentration on the part of the Force-user. Shatterpoints were akin to fault lines; similar to different pathways of actions. Adept Force-users were able to perceive these faults through the Force, and influence them.

  • Psychometry

This power allowed the user to view events as if they were there, including the sights, sounds, and feelings, both emotional and physical, that the wielder of the object experienced. This power was easier to use on personal objects that were used frequently. Objects that were used once or by several people often made the use of this power difficult, though it was still possible. This skill was useful for tracking though it was not useful in open battle and would fail to render useful information at times.

  • Force empathy

Force Empathy was a Force power related to Force sense, but involved picking up impressions of an individuals emotional state.

  • Farsight

Farsight (also called far sight or farseeing) was the ability to gain vague impressions of events happening in other places or times using the Force. These visions focused on strong imagery and emotions. The future is always in motion, however, and is thus subject to change. Jedi and Sith skilled in this technique were capable of detecting when friends and apprentices were in danger, examining details of past events, and predicting the probable outcome of a stated course of action. Farsight could also be applied to combat, allowing the practitioner to glimpse moves his opponent may make, as well as outside forces that might affect the battle. Sometimes, if the Jedi was in meditation for long enough, in farsight, their spirit could leave their body for a limited amount of time, making their spirit able to go where they please. This was used for reconnaissance in a hostile place.

  • Force sight

Force sight, or Force seeing, was a basic Force ability, perhaps related to Force sense. It enhanced the bearer's visual and spatial perception even in the dark or behind walls. 'Seeing' with the Force was a useful skill for as Obi-Wan Kenobi said, "Your eyes can deceive you. Don't trust them". Trained users could have their sight amplified and were able to counter Force persuasion and Force blinding powers.

  • Force vision

Generally, when peering deep into the Force, a Force user had the potential to see events that could happen in the future. Force visions were extremely rare, and uncontrollable. Often, one would meditate to gain a vision, but only a few would actually succeed.

  • Telepathy

Every Force user, Jedi or Sith, was potentially able to use it. The range of telepathy itself is theoretically infinite, but the telepath must be able to sense the presences of those they wish to contact. Thus, communicating with non-Force-sensitives became nearly impossible over distances greater than a handful of kilometers, and the typical upper limit for Force-sensitives was approximately 1,000 kilometers. However, individuals who were siblings, related, lovers, or lifelong friends, or who were once master and apprentice, were known to communicate across ranges far longer than that, and, in extreme cases (such as the twin bond between Jacen and Jaina Solo), the link apparently had no limit. Generally, a Force-user was not telepathic enough to truly read the thoughts of other beings, but only the emotions and images of them. This form of basic telepathy was more commonly known to be Force Empathy. It should be noted that while every Force-adept was able to use it, very few were actually skilled enough to commit in actual telepathic conversations. Most Force-sensitive individuals could only exchange short four or five-word sentences to those that they shared close bonds with. Usually, Jedi employed telepathy only to read the states of minds or engage in silent communications. Eye contact, in part, allowed a user to have less difficulty in focusing on a target's thoughts. A very skilled user could isolate their own brain waves, intercept stray thoughts, screen multiple minds simultaneously, whisper across space, yell without noise, keep secrets, and uncover the truths under layers of deceits and hidden memories. Adept pilots could even be able to seek information from other stars so as to navigate a starship through hyperspace without use of a nav computer. Moreover, telepathy also gave its user an advantage in combat, being able to easily predict the next movement of an opponent, and furthermore to taunt and confuse opponents by echoing their voice in their head in every direction, masking the users position.

  • Comprehend Speech

Comprehend Speech is a Force ability that enables a Jedi to understand the spoken language of any sentient he/she is interacting with, though it does not necessarily allow him/her to speak it, merely understand the general meaning. It is possibly an extension of the Telepathy power, as Revan was described as "ripping the Rakatan language from their minds," comprehending their tongue only moments after meeting them. Obi-Wan Kenobi also demonstrated this ability on Nelvaan, having been able to understand and translate the speech of a Nelvaanian shaman Orvos, though some of the nuances of the speech evaded him. This power proved ineffective at comprending the language of extremely xenophobic cultures, as evidenced by Revan's inability to understand the Sand People dialect. It can be guessed that cultures that actively refuse contact with other cultures, such as not caring whether a particular individual can communicate with them or not, can negate this ability. Use of the ability is aided if the sentient itself is Force-sensitive to some degree, as demonstrated when Luke Skywalker encountered the Qom Jha on Nirauan, and found he understood their language without making an attempt to interpret it.

  • Shadow Vision

Shadow Vision was a Force power that was formulated by the Disciples of Twilight. Users of the ability could use the Force to gain low-light vision, allowing them to ignore the concealment of others, specifically those rendered invisible.

Alter

An advanced form of Force-use, many non-trained Force-sensitives stumbled upon this group of powers accidentally, usually resulting in disastrous events. Untamed, these Force powers can cause mass chaos, as the art of manipulating other objects must be perfected and honed. Within the Jedi Order, these abilities were considered to be Alter abilities and were taught to Jedi Knights who had mastered the art of Control and Sense. Capable of affecting the environment, these abilities were vital to a successful Knight, as without them, individuals could see the Force, but were incapable of manipulating it. In the Order of the Jedi, the great Masters considered the techniques of telekinesis, affect mind, and Alter Environment to make up this family of abilities.

  • Alter Damage

An application of the Force used by the Jedi Order, the Council of First Knowledge classified as a technique which fell under the umbrella of skills known as Alter. Alter abilities were those which called upon the Force to manipulate things in the environment separate from the user. Mastery of this skill came hand-in-hand with mastery over lightsaber combat, as it was used in conjunction with use of the weapon. When used correctly, a practitioner could manipulate the energy of the lightsaber and reduce the damage caused to the target. Used while fighting both living and non-living opponents, this technique could make the difference between killing an opponent or completely disabling a droid or piece of machinery.

  • Alter Image

Alter Image was a Force power developed by Hyobu Sulloran which allowed the user to alter his or her own personal features, such as the height, weight, skin color, facial features, sex, voice, and body shape. These changes would stay as long as the Force-sensitive kept the power up, but would be dropped whenever the Force-user fell unconscious or simply lost concentration. However, other Force-sensitives skilled in receptive telepathy had a chance to see through this disguise which resulted in a contest of skills between the two Force-users. The power became more difficult to use the less the Force-user knew about the person being imitated.

  • Alter Environment

Alter Environment could be used to manipulate temperatures, creating freezing sub-zero temperatures in seconds, or blistering heat that could burn. With this ability, a user could generate electrical discharges over broad expanses of ground, vacate areas of air, or increase the pressure of the air to burst eardrums. The power allowed a Force-adept to form small earthquakes and fissures or gather the moisture in the air to bring about flash floods. Moreover, Alter Environment could influence already existing natural occurrences. For instance, a thunderstorm could be manipulated to unleash a burst of lightning, rain clouds to start up torrential rains, or cause the sky to hail. Windswept seas could be coaxed to rear up in massive waves or form whirlpools.

  • Animal friendship

Animal Friendship, also referred to as Beast Control or Beast Trick, was the Force ability to control an animal. Once calmed, the animal could be used by the Force user in various ways, including as a mount or guard beast.

  • Battle meditation

Battle meditation was a Force ability which considerably boosted the morale, stamina, and overall battle prowess of an individual's allies while simultaneously reducing the opposition's combat-effectiveness by eroding their will to fight. With the Force, one could coordinate entire fleets of ships, allowing them to perform at maximum efficiency, acting as a single entity with the ability to counter every enemy move quickly and effectively. Though ideal for meditating large-scale conflicts, battle meditation was equally effective when employed for the benefit of one's comrades in small skirmishes, attacks, and duels.

  • Combustion

Combustion, or Flamusfracta, was the Force ability that allowed users to cause an object to explode by sheer force of will. It was rarely used on a person, and the effects on inanimate objects and people was devastating. Depending on the size, density and vulnerability of the object in question, combustion would become harder or easier to use successfully. It is disputed whether combustion could be prevented and stopped if another Force user concentrated on an object to prevent it from exploding. This may have canceled it out, or it may have done nothing.

  • Crucitorn

Crucitorn was a Jedi technique for transcending physical pain beyond normal thresholds. Crucitorn has two possible ways (speculative possibilities) of affecting a Force-user's target. Through means of mental infiltration, a Jedi could focus on another's sensation or interpretation of pain, enhancing it to seem as if an injury was more painful than it really was. Another possible way that Crucitorn could increase the pain of a target is to literally focus on the wounds themselves, agitating them through the Force and causing more pain to course through the body, making it much more painful than how it would feel being left alone.

  • Dark transfer

An extremely rare Force power that allowed the user to bring others back to life from the brink of death; it could initially only be accessed through the dark side.

  • Deadly Sight

Darksiders could inflict pain and injury upon their foes merely by looking at them, causing victim's body to burn and smoke as they died. The user of Deadly Sight could damage entire groups of foes within their field of vision. Tiring to sustain, it was inefficient in terms of the strain caused on the user's Force reserves, but was nevertheless effective in the right situation. It should be noted that Deadly Sight injured everyone that the user looked at, including allies and civilians; it is unknown whether or not it could be refined, especially because of its dark nature.

  • Dopplegänger

Dopplegänger, or Similfuturus, was a Force power that allowed a user to create a perfect illusion of his or herself through the Force. The ability could also be used to duplicate objects that were visually indistinguishable from the real item.

  • Drain Knowledge

Drain Knowledge was a dark side ability used to extract knowledge out of a sentient without his or her consent. Beyond simple reading of thoughts, the Drain Knowledge ability disrupted the Force to steal deep memories and information in a violent and merciless way. Such a process might damage the subject psychologically.

  • Ionize | Droid Disable

Ionize was a Force power developed during the Old Sith Wars that allowed a Jedi to overload and damage electronic systems, such as droids. When employed, a stream of ionic energy generated by the Force would be unleashed upon the targeted mechanism and bore some similarity in appearance to Force lightning. However, the stream of energy traveling from the user to the target (or targets, if skilled enough) was purple, as contrary to the blue-white appearance of Force lightning, a nod to its stream of ions. Variations and Levels Ionize was divided into three separate levels of power.

    • Stun droid caused only minimum damage to a droid's circuits and was focused more on stunning the machine for a short period of time, often no more than 6 seconds. It was somewhat easy to resist and was usually only effective against non-combat models, but nearly always caused small devices such as mines to explode.
    • Disable droid was much more effective in deactivating a droid or other machinery than Stun Droid and was capable of causing some amounts of damage to the wiring and circuitry of the machine. Moreover, the energy released from this power was also capable of "hopping" from one droid to another within a certain area of the originally targeted droid.
    • Destroy droid was the most effective of all three levels and was aimed at the total destruction of the droid or device (even the beings with incorporeal skills), more than simply disabling it. The energy emitted from the user could effectively destroy many droids at once, especially if they were standing within a close proximity to the single droid target. While this power did not always ensure that a target would be immediately destroyed, resistance often still caused major disruptions to the inner circuitry of the machine.
  • Electric Judgment

It showed up as yellow or green energy instead of blue or white, but otherwise it was very similar in both appearance and usage to the Force power known as Force lightning. This power was uncommon and controversial among the Jedi because of its intrinsic association with anger and aggression.

  • Force bellow

Force bellow was a power in which the user would amplify their voice using the Force.

  • Force blinding

Force blinding was a telekinetic light side Force power. Upon use of this technique, a blinding flash of energy emanated from a user's hand, manifesting as a flash of light that overloaded a target's vision, causing temporary blindness. A powerful tool of the light side, a Jedi could obfuscate an opponent's sight, making it difficult for the adversary to spot and attack the Jedi or anyone else. However, a trained Force-sensitive who had prepared himself could defend against this technique by using Force Sight. Still, if the Jedi could blind an unprepared enemy before they reached out with Force Sight, the blind could still be effective. While considered traditionally a light side power, there is an instance of a Dark Jedi using it.

  • Force cloak

  • Mind trick | Force confusion

The concept of Force persuasion was the use of the Force to exert influence. Some species with highly organized mental facilities were known to be inherently resistant to its effects, requiring more skill, among them Hutts, Toydarians, Yinchorri, Kloodavians, Dashade, Falleen, Geonosians, and possibly Snivvians. On the other hand, some species, such as the Nikto, were particularly susceptible to it. Known variants included affect mind and dominate mind, with dominate mind being a more advanced version of the former. When using a Jedi mind trick, a Jedi often waved his or her hand to aid in the persuasion. The Jedi adopted a peculiar tone of voice along with a casual facial expression. The sentient being that was the object of the mind trick tended to adopt a casual tone of voice but a peculiar facial expression. Should the trick succeed, he or she then agreed to whatever was being said to them without being able to think for themselves. Moments later, they would feel puzzled about their new opinion, but usually didn't feel like changing it back. Experienced Force-users could Force persuade over long distances—in one instance, between starships

  • Tutaminis | Force Defend Reduced damage taken by Force powers.

Tutaminis was an umbrella title used by the Jedi Order to classify Force abilities related to energy absorption. Designated as one in a family of Control abilities, tutaminis techniques were taught to Jedi Initiates within the Jedi academy throughout the history of the Order. While taught to all Jedi during the days of the Galactic Republic, it was a rare feat to be capable of dissipating concentrated energy such as what makes up a blasterbolt or lightsaber blade. While it was named and practiced by the Jedi Order, tutaminis was not restricted to use by Jedi. In fact, most Force-based groups and Force-users in general learned to use or at least control some of the abilities taught at the Temple. As the basis of many abilities, tutaminis included many skills that were given proper or common names within the Jedi Order. Other abilities stem from this skill but were more personalized and not taught throughout the entire academy, if at all. Many skills, such as a simple body shielding or as advanced as catching and/or dispelling a lightsaber blade with one's bare hand, were all considered applications of tutaminis. Mastery in self-protection would include the capability to encase oneself in an energy field that could drain energy from incoming attacks. This ability would make the bearer invulnerable to a wide range of attacks until the user discontinued its use, or it wore off when the user became fatigued. Also with this skill it was possible to deflect blaster bolts with bare hands, though mastery of this skill was very difficult.

  • Force deflection (without a lightsaber)

Force Deflection was a Force power used by Jedi and Sith who were without a lightsaber, or chose not to carry one. It took much skill in the Force to use this, however, and most Jedi used their lightsabers instead to deflect incoming attacks.

  • Force Destruction

Force Destruction was a dark side Force power used by Sith and Dark Jedi, allowing them to create a massive energy field and throw it in any direction. When used, a massive amount of energy was stored up within the user, drawn from the dark side of the Force, and with incredible concentration, the energy could be discharged using the user's own body as a conduit. Usually fired through the arm or hand, it could blast a large radius vaporizing anyone who got too close to it. Even those who escaped direct contact with the blast would be pushed asunder by the power's backlash. Using Force Destruction was a very exhausting power requiring a great deal of focus and concentration and could only be used a few times without requiring the user to rest.

  • Force drain

Force drain referred to a spectrum of offensive and defensive Force powers, tied to the same concept, which used the dark side of the Force to tap into the strengths of an organic target. Mastery of each technique could scale the area of effect, sometimes dramatically, or exhaust the victims almost instantaneously.

  • Mind trick | Force fear

Force fear was a dark side Force power and possibly a dark side variant on the Jedi mind trick, used by Sith and Jedi with dark side tendencies. The wielder would strike directly at the deepest parts of the target's mind, causing an uncontrollable shaking fear that would wreak havoc with the target's capabilities. Through pure force of will alone, a user could cause them to lose their courage completely, and if left undefended, the effects could be severe, rapidly demoralizing the enemy with a feeling of hopelessness and regret. Depending on the victim, it would caused them to either cower defenselessly or flee from their opponent outright.

    • Mind trick | Force horror advanced version of Force Fear

Force fear had two advanced variants: Force horror and Force insanity. Force horror enabled the Force user to cause multiple enemies to enter into a catatonic state of panic that was more severe and more difficult to defend than the basic Force fear.

    • Mind trick | Force insanity the most advanced version of Force Horror

Force insanity also enabled the Force user to affect multiple enemies at once, although to an even greater range than its predecessor. As the most advanced form of Force fear, its effect was much more devastating, with the victims possibly descending into an utter state of frenzied madness and deranged mania as their situation seemed to suddenly become hopeless.

  • Force-flash

The Force-flash was a Force power employed when the person using it did not want to be seen. Related to Droid Disable, the user could temporarily disable a security holocam, causing a brief period of static, allowing the user to pass while only alerting security to a minor holocam malfunction. Another usage of the Force under the same name allowed the Force-user to produce an unnatural flash of bright light, temporary blinding his opponents.

  • Telekinesis | Force flight

Levitation was a Force power that allowed Jedi to suspend themselves against the force of gravity. Levitation required no direct physical contact. Using the Force, an individual could then hover in place or move about wherever they desired.

  • Mind trick | Force Illusion

Force illusion was a very powerful Force ability, a subset of the various mind trick powers. The user projected an image into the minds of beings within range, of anything from a pillar of fire to a horde of snarling monsters to a fleet of warships, depending on the range. The user could see the illusion as well, though it would be only partially there, semi-transparent like a hologram.

  • Force Jump/Leap

Force Jump, also known as Force Leap, used the Force to augment the user's natural leaping ability. Force-users adept in this technique could perform awe-inspiring vertical/horizontal leaps with impunity.

  • Force Light

Force light was a light side Force power used by the Jedi. When used against a darksider, Force light would weaken the darksider's connection to the Force. With the light of the Force, a Jedi could either purge or contain dark side manifestations or nexus points, whether in places, spirits, or even living persons, though sometimes to detrimental effect. By channeling the Force into withering blasts of light-side energy, the darkness can then be diminished or destroyed permanently. Force light could also be used to sever the bond between a Sith battlelord and his or her followers.

  • Force lightning Organic limbs & extremities required

Force lightning was a purely offensive, energy-based attack that channeled Force energy down the user's limbs, hurling arcing bolts of electricity from the wielder's fingertips or palms; Force lightning could be executed with either one or two hands. Powerful discharges would branch out into dozens of smaller forks; thus, skilled practitioners could target several foes at once. The intensity varied based on a number of factors. A skilled user could render a target unconscious with only a short burst. A single, powerful blast was sufficient to kill a person instantly.

    • Chain lightning variation of Force Lightning

Chain lightning was a variation of Force lightning with the difference being that the lightning was able to strike one person and then move to another or several others. As it was more powerful than the standard lightning, it required a greater amount of discipline and concentration to project and sustain the stream of lightning. The only confirmed users are the Force apparition known as Dark Mara and Galen Marek and Count Dooku.

    • Force shock variation of Force Lightning

Force shock was a Force power that allowed the user to create an energy spark that would track and damage the nearest enemy. The shock could be thrown at an opponent to stun and injure them, or could be set loose to track an opponent until it dissipates. The shock would not last more than five seconds or so before disappearing into a tiny burst of heat, but it was a useful technique for Sith apprentices.

    • Force storm (lightning) advanced version of Force Lightning

Force storm was a Force lightning variant. The user would raise his palm upward and would create, through the Force, an explosion of electrical energy directed at all foes in the vicinity. It also appeared as a tornado of energy which created a great disturbance in the Force. Jedi could also join together to create a Force storm, though its use was frowned upon by more orthodox Jedi. Unlike the Force lightning, Force storm was not limited to attacking enemies in one direction, as it affected all foes within a certain radius from the user.

  • Wall of light Can be used by the combined might of many Jedi, though the results may be catastrophic.

A wall of light was an immense manifestation of potentially destructive light side Force energy created by the focused power of a united Jedi front. When performed successfully, a wall of light allowed participants to effectively contain or purge the power of the dark side from a specific location, or sever an especially dangerous darksider from their Force connection. The use of the Force to create a wall of light side energy was a Jedi's most devastating offensive ability. The technique required the collective effort of several participants to form—with considerable difficulty—an all-encompassing prison of blue energy, from which the dark side could not escape. Celestial bodies besieged by a wall of light were sterilized[8] utterly with flames and violent weather phenomena, while wielders of the dark side found themselves completely blocked from the Force.

  • Force Orb

Force Orb was a Force power which served as an attack. Under normal circumstances, it only worked underwater. It could also sometimes be used on land by gathering moisture in the area.

  • Force persuasion A variation of a Mind Trick

  • Mind trick | Force projection

Force projection was a mysterious Jedi ability, and was possibly a variation of Force illusion. It was a technique with which a Force user could create an inanimate apparition similar to themselves to distract, confuse or lure enemies. Perhaps not strictly a mind-trick, the projected image was fully capable of intercepting incoming fire, and was visible to all around it, not just a selected target.

  • Telekinesis | Push/Pull

A telekinetic ability using the Force that could cause a material body to draw close to the user. The greater the user's aptitude with this, the heavier the object that could be pulled or the more wide arc or radius of the Force "wave". It could be used to pull weapons from enemies, or, at higher levels of skill, the enemies themselves to be brought closer to a Jedi's lightsaber range. This power was also very useful when a chasm or hole lay between the caster and the enemies. It could also be used to pull foes to the ground. One of the most powerful uses of the ability was to pull a starship from the sky. At more powerful levels, Force Push was the ability to create a telekinetic impulse via the Force, launching a concussive burst of pressurized air-not unlike the blast of an archaic 'pipe bomb'-that would impact a target with enough force to knock it over, launch it into the air, or even (particularly in the case of fragile materials such as ceramics) shatter it into pieces. The greater the user's telekinetic aptitude, the larger the pressure differential, and thus the stronger the effect and the heavier the target. With practice, a skilled Force user could increase the range and arc of the blast without lowering the average kinetic energy, creating a blanketed wave instead of a focused impulse. Truly gifted practitioners could generate a concussive blast that would radiate from them for dozens of meters in all directions, detonating with the force of a conventional explosive.

  • Force scream

If a Dark Jedi or Sith Lord was being beaten and frustrated by his foe, he might let out an enraged scream (amplified through the Force) that triggered shock waves that rippled through the Force. This caused devastation to any that were unfortunate enough to be in close proximity. Like many dark side Force powers, it allowed the user to use powerful negative emotions as a weapon, albeit involuntarily in this case. The Force scream had been called “a wave of hatred, amplified and fueled by the dark side, that is capable of smashing through mental and physical defenses with ease.”

  • Force Stun

Force Stun was a Force power that could temporarily deaden the senses and perceptions of a targeted enemy, preventing most movements. It was often used when a Jedi faced a large number of opponents or if they wished to disable an enemy long enough to flee from or apprehend them. To use the power, the Jedi would use the Force to induce them into a catatonic state. Beings or creatures with a high degree of willpower could resist the effects of this power. In addition, it was ineffective against droids and other inorganic beings.

    • Force Stasis advanced version of Force Stun

Force Stasis was a more potent version of Force Stun. The Jedi would use the Force to deaden the senses of an enemy, inducing a near-catatonic state and in effect freezing that person or being in place. This power was very useful when the Force-user was stuck in tight spots against a superior number of foes.

      • Force Stasis Field the most advanced version of Force Stun

Stasis Field was the highest level of Force Stun. Often learned and practiced by higher-level Jedi Knights and Masters, this power allowed the Force-user to put multiple enemies into brief, non-harmful catatonic states at one time, allowing for quick escapes or to avoid protracted confrontations against seemingly overwhelming numbers. This power could also be used to avoid combat entirely, if the wielder wished to apprehend or sneak by opponents put into stasis.

  • Force Slow

Force Slow was a dark side Force power used by Sith and Dark Jedi. This power clouded the target's mind, causing them to slow down both mentally and physically. It was the milder version of three poison-inspiring Force powers, the other ones being Force Affliction and Force Plague.

    • Force Affliction variation of Force Slow

Force Affliction was a variant of Force Slow. Affliction worked much like a fast-acting poison, quickly debilitating the target. The effects of affliction worsened over time and may cause death if the user is strong enough in the Force.

    • Force Plague advanced version of Force Slow

Force Plague was a more powerful version of Force Affliction. Plague worked like a fast-acting toxin, horribly debilitating its victims. The effects of Plague continued to worsen over time.

  • Force storm (wormhole)

One of the most powerful known Force abilities in existence, Force storm was capable of violently destroying the fabric of the space-time continuum by opening dimension-altering rifts in the universe. The power allowed a Force-user to generate unique hyperspace wormholes, violent blue vortices of Force energy known as Force storms, anywhere from less than one hundred meters to over one kilometer in diameter. Force storms could devastate the surfaces of entire planets and consume whole fleets of starships. Storms could also safely transport living beings across the galaxy in a short span of time and, if used in conjunction with certain Sith artifacts, could send a being forward in time. The creation of a Force storm required the user to concentrate an almost palpable degree of anger and hatred into a tangible manifestation of dark side power. There was considerable danger involved in the generation of a Force storm; those who could not control what they had unleashed were often themselves consumed and destroyed. If the person generating the storm was killed, the storm dissipated in minutes. Storms could also be conjured across great distances.

  • Force Subjugate

Force Subjugate was a Force power that enabled the user to inflict damage upon the mind and psyche of an opponent. Some methods of this technique allowed the transference of a user's Force energy, and/or the drainage of other Force users. Some used this power to calm, enrage, and direct the attacks of creatures with a low amount of will power.

  • Force suppression

Force suppression was a controversial mind-affecting Force power that was employed by crafty Force-sensitives. It allowed a Force sensitive to harness the Force in order convince others that they had been cut off from the Force itself. This would individually affect each active Force power. This technique took a great deal of focus to accomplish.

    • Force Breach advanced version of Force Suppression

Force Breach was an advanced variant of Force Suppression that interrupted all powers in use by the target at the time. It was a technique employed when a foe was preparing for a Force-based attack by disrupting their concentration and scrambling their focus. Force Breach was not a widely known Force power; it was most often used by some of the more powerful Jedi and Sith in ancient times.

  • Force Throw

A telekinetic ability of the Force, perhaps related to Force Push. It caused objects, and even people, to be hurled toward a target at an astounding velocity. A skilled Force user could throw multiple, large objects simultaneously at great speed

  • Force travel

Force travel was a Force power which allowed a being to travel great distances instantly by creating a momentary rift in space. This power caused the user to be corrupted by the dark side, as it broke the normal rules of the galaxy by ripping the Force asunder. The technique became more corrupting to use depending both on how far away the target was, as well as how familiar the Force-user was with the location.

  • Force Wave advanced version of Force Push

One of the most powerful forms of Force Push. It was essentially a wave of pure Force-energy that pulsed out from the Force user that utilized it, which knocked back anything within the power's blast radius. The strength of Force Wave was extremely potent, and its raw power was on more than one occasion described as a telekinetic explosion. It was more widespread, like a wave, hence the name, and could push multiple opponents at once. It was very useful in tight, cramped quarters when the Force user needed room to move, since Force users could damage their opponents by pushing them into the walls. It could also be used as "crowd control," when overwhelming numbers of enemies immediately swarm toward the user. Using Force Wave gives the Force user time to rethink their strategy and cast more Force powers, or they could also attack fallen opponents as they are stunned.

    • Force Repulse another advanced version of Force Push

An extremely powerful telekinetic Force power, similar in function to Force Push, and perhaps even more to Force Blow, but on a far larger scale, akin to that of Force Wave, Force Repulse was known to gather loose objects, even Humans, and let out a powerful blow. The user would concentrate in the Force and violently push it outwards, creating rapidly-expanding kinetic ripples in space, flinging nearby objects away at high velocity. The power only affected objects a certain distance away from the user, and therefore anyone could avoid its effects by moving further away from the user.

  • Force weapon

Force Weapon was a Force ability that allowed the user to imbue an unpowered weapon with the Force for a period of time. By channeling energy into the weapon, it allowed the wielder to strike and do more damage than the weapon's simple appearance would suggest. As a useful side effect, a Force-imbued weapon could be used to block lightsabers without damaging the weapon

  • Force Whirlwind variation of Force Push

A more advanced form of Force Push, and a feeble version of Force Wave. The Jedi would alter the air currents around an opponent, turning it into a maelstrom. This swirling force would lift an opponent into the air, spin them around, and leave them incapable of moving out of it. This allowed the Jedi to attack without resistance.

  • Pyrokinesis

Pyrokinesis was a Force power that allowed a Force-user to manipulate and generate fire. The power seemed to have two major applications, the manipulation, and the generation of fire. In generation, a force user typically generated fire from an already existing material. Yarael Poof exemplifies this by being famed for his ability to trigger fires by manipulating the molecules of combustible objects. In manipulation, a force user was capable of directing and controlling an already existing flame with relative ease.

  • Choking powers | Force wound

This power allowed a Force user to telekinetically apply pressure to their opponent's organs or body. If not resisted, it could crush the victim's heart or spasming lungs, thus stunning them and inflicting considerable damage to the organ, and it would cause the victim incredible pain and suffering.

    • Force choke variation of Force Grip

This was an attack via the Force that was used to crush a living being's throat, in effect choking them if used at a low level. Sith Masters used this when wanting to punish people or prove their strength to a number of individuals. Those under its effect would usually clutch at their throats. Although it was more commonly used by the Sith, it was used by Jedi as well.

    • Force grip advanced version of Force Wound

This move was similar to Force Choke and Crush, as it was used to grip enemies with the Force. The target could be seized with great strength, lifted off their feet and suspended in the air by a powerful Force user. If used to a high degree, it could crush an opponent's bones or organs. Very similar to Force Choke, the main difference between the two was that choke was used to strangle its victim, as it seems the usual method was to use the Force to crush the throat or windpipe of its victim, whereas Grip was used to literally grab someone with the Force lift them up into the air then either choke them or throw them . More powerful users were quite capable of lifting the intended target off the ground and moving them through the air. Also, the user was not limited to merely strangling their prey, but could crush organs or bones. Those most experienced with Force Grip needed only a live visual of their victim in order to perform the technique. Some used this provision as an advantage to escape the Grip's clutches: Jedi could implement Force Persuasion or Force blinding to obscure a Grip-user's vision, or some could immediately leap to escape it (with mixed results in either case, depending on the user's knowledge of the Force)

    • Force crush the most advanced version of Force Wound

One of the most violent Force ability known to the Sith and the Jedi, this deadly technique lifted the opponent into the air and, as they were floating, their body would implode as it was crushed by the Force.

  • Kinetite

Kinetite was a variation on the Force lightning ability. It involved molding "Force energized lightning" into a sphere of restrained kinetic energy which could be thrown at an enemy. Instead of burning or electrocuting it's target like most forms of Force lightning, it acted as a solid projectile.

  • Malacia

Malacia was a Force technique that was used to induce a powerful dizziness and nausea in enemies by turning their equilibrium against them. It was completely incapacitating, but caused no damage to the body, and so was not considered a dark side power. Even so, the effects of the power were sometimes so severe that it could cause a target to vomit. The principal quality of the technique was that a Force-user utilizes it by transforming a target's energy rather than using their own.

  • Mechu-deru

Mechu-deru was a rare Force power that allowed the user to sense the complex structures of technology, and allowed for intuitive understanding of how complicated structures, including machinery and circuitry, fit together. Some Jedi — especially Jedi tech experts — used this ability to strip down, and then rebuild and upgrade a vast variety of machinery, from blasters to hyperdrives.

  • Midi-chlorian manipulation

Midi-chlorian manipulation was a form of Sith alchemy mastered by Darth Plagueis. Requiring immense knowledge of the dark side of the Force, it was the ability to create, maintain, or save life through the influencing of midi-chlorians to a certain degree.

  • Protection bubble

A Protection Bubble, bubble of safety, was a Force power, probably related to Force Protection. With this ability, the user could create a defensive sphere around their body. It is described as a shimmering blue globe of energy. It could protect the user from a wide range of attacks, deflect laser blasts, defend against lightsabers, vacuums and even inflict certain amounts of damage upon contact with the enemy. Protection bubbles can also be used offensively. Should the user surround the attacker in a Protection bubble, it is possible the attacker will become a victim of their own attack, having been trapped within its destructive radius. Due to the extreme concentration needed to sustain the bubble however, the user would have to be momentarily immobile in order to enact the bubble, and sometimes, completely stationary in order to sustain it.

  • Plant Surge

Plant Surge, or Consitor Sato, was a light side Force power which allowed the user to improve the plant's rate of growth and even affect the manner in which it grows. In battle, the ability to control a plant's growth with the Force could be used to cause plants to grow with incredible speed directly under the user's control, causing plant life to grow and twist around opponents, ensnaring anyone who wasn't quick enough to avoid it. Once ensnared, the victim would find it difficult to dodge and fight, and nearly impossible to move unless they escaped through force or finesse.

  • Ray

Ray was a Force technique used by Jedi skilled in energy manipulation. Employing this power, they could convert small amounts of nearby matter into controllable focused energy; a Jedi could also block attacks from blaster bolts with the use of this ability. Ray could also be employed to stop lightsaber attacks, although only experienced Jedi could use the ray effectively in combat. Energy collected from this ability would become unstable and harder to control if used to absorbed excessively, dissipating in the form of a flash of heat if the user failed to maintain proper control.

  • Revitalize

Revitalize was a light side Force technique that revitalized an exhausted, wounded or, unconscious user, or whoever the user directed it at. Being a Force-based power, it did not work on non-organics such as droids.

  • Sever Force

Sever Force was a non-lethal Force power by which a being's connection to the Force was interrupted, or blocked from them with a wall of light side energy. According to the ancient Jedi scholar Odan-Urr, severing an individual's Force connection was the most powerful attack a Jedi could perform.

  • Sith alchemy

Force alchemy, better known as Sith alchemy, was a science that referred to a number of areas under the Sith. It encompassed any power or technique which used the Dark side of the Force to permanently alter an item or living being. Sith alchemy was primarily used to enhance the strength of weapons and armor (such as the famous Sith swords), or to genetically engineer and enhance alien species, making them more dangerous and easier to control by the Sith Lords. More sinisterly, Sith alchemy was capable of waking the dead in servitude to the Sith. Korriban zombies, and possibly Sith undead, were creations of this branch of the art. One of the many applications of Sith Alchemy was the art of creating nefarious toxins, such as Sith poison.

  • Spear of midnight black

The spear of midnight black was a dark side Force power. It enabled the Force-user to summon the Force and forge with it an invisible spear from dark side energies which could be hurled at opponents, killing or injuring them as if it were a real, physical spear.

  • Transfer essence | Spirit Transference

Transfer essence, also known as essence transfer or transfer life, was a radical dark side Force power used to transfer a person's consciousness into another body, or in some cases an inanimate object. Ancient Sith Lords and other powerful darksiders used this technique to cheat death again and again, haunting their tombs and possessing those who stumbled across their sarcophagi in order to continue their reign of terror. In more recent eras, masters of this dark side art had used advanced cloning technology to assure their immortality.

  • Telekinesis

Telekinesis, abbreviated TK, was a neutral ability that most Force-sensitives had. With it, they could lift and move objects to their will. This ability was the base for Force Pull, Force Throw and Force Push, as well as telekinetic lightsaber combat techniques such as Saber Throw. It could be disputed that these are all the same power applied to different means. The ability was extremely common among Force sensitive individuals and organizations, though the techniques could differ greatly.

  • Memory Walk | Torture by Chagrin

It consisted of mentally reaching into the victim's mind, forcing them to relive all the worst memories of their life, both painful ones and ones that were merely embarrassing, over and over and over again to the point where it almost seemed to cause physical pain.

  • Thought bomb

A thought bomb was the result of an ancient ritual that, through the focused willpower of many unified Sith Lords, unleashed the full volatility of the dark side of the Force. When detonated, a thought bomb decimated the entirety—corporeal and beyond—of every Force-sensitive being caught within its blast radius and absorbed their fragmented souls into a swirling vortex of perpetual torment that resolved into an orb of silver iridescence.

  • Revelation

Revelation was a Force power that was formulated by the Disciples of Twilight. Users of the ability could locate their enemies, through the enemy being silhouetted by a faint shimmering light that belied their location.

  • Dampen Presence | Dampen Presence

A form of the Mind Trick, almost the same as Force Cloak

  • Conceal Other | Conceal Other

A form of Force Illusion.

  • Cleanse Mind | Cleanse Mind

Cleanse Mind was a crucial Force power that was employed by members of the Jedi Consulars. It allowed a member of the Jedi Consulars to negate a on-going mind-affecting Force power from themselves or an ally within their line of sight.

Using Force powers

According to the Potentium theory that the Force is one, the light and dark sides did not actually describe the Force, but rather defined how an individual used it: to directly harm his enemies or to help himself overcome situations. Thus the aggressive or vengeful abilities inherently belonged to the Dark side of the Force, while those which were healing, defensive, self-empowering, or diversionary belonged to the Light side of the Force.

Core

The Core powers were the first powers a Jedi learned, and directly affected his own body or objects without actually harming or benefiting anything (except for Push, which could be used against enemies).

Control

The most basic Force techniques, requiring mastery over self. Control was the first basic abilities to be learned by a Jedi.

  • Force speed
  • Force cloak
  • Force stealth Also known as Force concealment

Force Sense

The Force technique of Force Sense included all abilities enhancing perception of the world around a being.

  • Force sight
  • Farsight | Farseeing
  • Force empathy
  • Telepathy

Alter

The most perceptive to the dark side, alter was the last technique taught to younglings. It included powers to create external phenomenon.

  • Telekinesis
    • Force Jump/Leap
    • Force Pull/Push

Universal

Universal powers were generic Force techniques which were associated with neither side of the Force. Almost all Core powers also qualified as Universal powers, but many of them were uncommon and not an integral part of basic Jedi training.

  • Art of the Small

Art of the Small was a radical Force technique. By narrowing their focus, a Force user could essentially shrink their presence in the Force to a microscopic size. While in this state, the user could operate molecules in any way they wanted, turning them into something completely different.

Light

Light side powers were the Force powers that the user accessed through the Force's light side. The Jedi used them for protection, increasing physical and mental capacities, and for defense. They could also inspire and increase the resolve of allies. Certain light side powers could also be used offensively, but did not directly cause physical harm.
