Appearance

Jason has what might be called a lean appearance. His height is neither tall nor short, sitting somewhere at the average level, and this tends to give him a less imposing appearance at first sight. Much of that is taken away by his piercing stare, though. His posture and walk have an intensity about them, something often off putting when contrasted by the blond curls and boyish features. He has only one significant scar on his form, a stitched gash on the left side of his abdomen that he usually refuses to speak about.

Face Claim

Personality

Jason is a rather reserved person around most people. He doesn't like crowds of people, and often seems shy when someone first meets him. In truth, this lack of an outgoing nature is a self defense mechanism he developed. First to deal with the initial trials, then the ward that came after it. Beneath all of that, he's a kind soul with a great deal of empathy, not something often seen with his disorder. Though whether it's really empathy or just a self learned method of reading people is hard to tell, even for him. Regardless, he's fiercely loyal and protective when he gets close to someone. As would be expected of a man that's lost nearly everything he's cared about in his young life.

History

Jason Masters was born the eldest child of Calvin and Janette Masters, a couple living in the small town of Albita Springs. It was a classic happy family on the outside, viewed very favorably by most. Due to the town's size, many people didn't question the frequent trips his mother had to make to the hospital. The fact that his father was a deputy in the local Sheriff's station didn't help the matter of domestic abuse any either.

Had it been an actual Police station Calvin applied to, they would have caught this fact. Unfortunately Sheriff stations are far less thorough in their hiring process. The worst part was that the old man passed this disorder to Jason. At first it wasn't an issue, just something that made him seem spacey. He was too gentle a soul to act out, even if he sometimes didn't understand people or certain emotions as well as others. The problem came when he got old enough to realize what was happening, both to his mother and now his younger sister.

Jason quickly started sticking up for them. At first this worked, as his father viewed him like a creation of himself. Soon it just began to make things worse, even seeing the boy targeted as an outlet to the frustrations. This went on until he was twelve years old, until his old man finally snapped completely. He let loose with his hunting knife. First his mother, then his little sister. It was the cries of the second that brought him to the room just in time to see the last of it. The sight caused him to lose it.

Jason fought with his father then, taking a wound to his left side. His old man was winded from what he'd already done, though, and Jason had adrenaline and rage pumping. He managed to get the knife away from his old man and the room went black. When he finally came to he was covered in blood and sitting in the room with his dead family. Some neighbors found him the next morning, but the poor boy had blocked out what had really happened. This landed him as the prime suspect.

The local Sheriff's seen it as an in and out case. Murder. They gave him a thorough interrogation, and his fragile and unstable mind created a scenario with him. One in which he'd killed his own family. That broke him, luckily his public defender noticed the signs. It didn't take a crack shrink to see the boy was unfit to stand trial, and so he was sent to a New Orleans psychiatric facility until such a time he was deemed fit. His testimony was held during that time.

Jason's first years there were rough. Being around others in the juvenile wing wasn't easy, especially given that most of them were far worse the he was. In the next two years he became known as a bit of a trouble maker, though one the orderlies didn't altogether mind given the circumstances. He was standing up to the more violent of the patients when they picked on or attacked those younger or weaker then themselves. It was still something he caught flak for though.

It was the next year, after he'd learned the ropes of the place, that he was waken by the sounds of crying from down the hall. He didn't know it at the time, but those cries awakened a small memory from the night his family was killed. He traveled to see who it was, and help them if he could. It was that day he laid eyes on Riley. For some reason just looking at her made him feel right. He talked with her some then, and finally she began to open up to him. In the months that came, the two quickly proved to be fast friends.

Jason spent all the time he could with Riley in the years to come, completely unaware on how dependent on her he'd become. That is until the two turned eighteen. That's when Riley got the news she was being let out of the Facility, while he still had to stay. He was hurt at first, the thought that she wanted to leave him. He immediately assumed it was because of what he believed he'd done in the past. After her departure he realized what had really happened, and his ire turned to those that ran the facility.

Jason shelled up again after that, even failing his coming of age evaluation to finally stand trial. It was all but a guaranteed life sentence in this place, and he knew it. It was shortly after that when a girl a year younger then him arrived. And just like with Riley, he found himself drawn to Bobby from her cries. He consoled her, like he had with Riley, but things were different. While they became friends, there was always the fights and the mood swings. Fights and Moodswings that became worse when he rejected her deeper affections.

It was shortly after the rejection that he found her in her room, attempting to slit her wrists. Jason rushed her, attempting to stop what was coming, but inevitably he'd failed. His friend Bobby died that day, with her blood all over his hands. It triggered the old memories, and he went through the same process once again. Even attempting to confess to murder. The Psychiatrists at the ward noticed the signs, and after comparing them to his history, they sent the information to the state authorities.

It was enough to get his case looked into again, but it'd have meant nothing if Jason hadn't gotten the calls and letters from Riley. Those alone are what managed to pull him back to reality enough to understand what was going on. His memories of the night were still clouded, but now he had doubts if they were true. Soon small holes began to form in the scenario, things that didn't make sense. He didn't know it at the time, but the 'therapist' that came and helped him poke holes in the scenario was Giselle.

With this, Jason's case was looked at more thoroughly. Forensic evidence managed to prove what really happened, and it seemed like a good ending was on it's way. Until the state laws were brought forth. Jason had still committed a crime, even if it was one that could be justified. And he was still deemed unfit to stand trial, with his next hearing not for several more years. The sad news came, but over the next year something miraculous happened. He'd had an interview with a psychiatrist that deemed him fit, and for some reason the state had decided not to pursue. Reading that he'd served enough time already.

Things became more clear to Jason when he was picked up upon release to find Riley. He didn't know what she'd done, and honestly he didn't really care anymore. He finally got back the last thing in his life he'd ever valued. He didn't so much as risk a glance back when they decided to run off, and he doesn't plan to either. Location:Drifter
