Detect Lies determines whether a creature speaks the truth, from the perspective of the creature. The reverse, conceal lies, makes lies impossible to detect for 2 hours per caster level. This can make untruths seem more plausable, but it cannot by itself convince something of something plainly untrue. (an individual, for example, could be persuaded he can in fact fly, but the spell could not make the individual believe he was flying if he chose to jump off the roof of the inn to test his powers.)
